A remastered version of the highly praised PS1 RPG “Tales of Eternia” has been officially announced for PS5, with a release scheduled for later this year.
Bandai Namco and developer TOSE revealed that “Tales of Eternia Remastered” will launch on October 16, 2026, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch (both models), and PC worldwide. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be available, offering a digital art book, soundtrack, and some downloadable content.
The remaster will introduce numerous quality-of-life improvements, including destination markers, the option to disable enemy encounters, and an auto-battle mode. Visual and audio enhancements have been made as well, with the ability to switch between the classic and updated modes for those who want to experience the retro version.
Originally released in Japan in 2000, “Tales of Eternia” arrived in North America in 2001 on the PlayStation. An upgraded port appeared on the PlayStation Portable in 2006.
The game’s official description reads: “In the remote Inferian village of Rasheans, Reid Hershel and his childhood friend Farah Oersted encounter a mysterious girl named Meredy. As they set out to uncover her origins, they learn that a catastrophic event called the ‘Great Fall’ threatens both Inferia and Celesita.”
