Last week, Capcom officially revealed that Resident Evil Veronica is currently in development, confirming rumors that the franchise would be remaking this often-overlooked installment.
Although the reveal trailer didn’t showcase any gameplay footage, its cinematography and framing sparked curiosity among fans about the camera perspective in the final game. The original Resident Evil: Code Veronica was a strictly third-person experience, but recent titles in the series have shifted to first-person gameplay. The trailer’s first-person shots led many to wonder what perspective the remake would adopt.
Now, we can put those speculations to rest: Resident Evil Veronica will retain a third-person camera and will not include an option for first-person view. During a Q&A session at Summer Game Fest 2026, series producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed that the remake will stick with the traditional third-person perspective from the original.
Hirabayashi explained, “The reveal trailer does include some first-person segments. We wanted to surprise and delight players, so we added those special first-person moments to the trailer.”
While the remake won’t radically reinvent the original, it will bring modern improvements and gameplay mechanics. Hirabayashi compared the connection between Veronica and Code Veronica to that of Resident Evil 2 Remake and its predecessor.
Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait too long to experience this highly anticipated remake. Resident Evil Veronica is set to launch in 2027.
