Sony released the PS5 system software update 26.04-13.40.00 early this morning, just ahead of June 2026. Unfortunately, the update doesn’t include the major changes fans were expecting, but it does require about 1 GB of data to be downloaded on your PS5 or PS5 Pro.
The official patch notes mention that “system software performance and stability have been improved.” This typical wording suggests that the update mainly covers minor fixes and security patches that Sony prefers not to highlight.
Interestingly, there’s no sign of the redesigned user interface (UI) that was tested with a select group of users two months ago. Back in early April, reports indicated that Sony was trialing a sleeker PS5 UI. While many assumed the new UI was limited to beta testers, it turned out that some users outside the beta program also received the update, leading to confusion when Sony reverted it about a month later.
So far, this latest update doesn’t seem to include any noticeable new features or changes. It’s unclear whether Sony has decided to shelve the UI overhaul entirely or has postponed its release.
Additionally, Sony seems to have quietly made some adjustments to the PS Store page on the PS5, but these changes haven’t yet been visible to all users.
We’ll keep monitoring the situation and will update our readers as more details become available.
