A US missile strike in southern Iran has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a child, and injured over 50 others, according to Iran’s Red Crescent. The attack targeted a wedding celebration in Kuhestak, located in Sirik County within Hormozgan Province. The Red Crescent reported on X that shrapnel from the missile impact struck a residential house during the event, causing considerable casualties and destruction.
A video circulated by an Iranian government account depicted extensive debris and damage at what was identified as the wedding site in Sirik, with people in the footage heard screaming. Earlier, Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan Province, confirmed to state TV that two people had died and several others were wounded. Sirik County, positioned along the vital Strait of Hormuz, is of strategic importance.
The United States explained that it was conducting targeted strikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) positions in response to recent attempted attacks on commercial ships and American personnel in the region. Details about specific targets within Sirik County remain unclear.
Additionally, Iranian media reported explosions in multiple cities across and east of Hormozgan Province, including at an airport in southern Kerman. Tensions have escalated since late February, when US and Israeli strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military officials, prompting Iran to retaliate with regional attacks. The initial intense bombing campaign lasted nearly 40 days, but sporadic retaliatory strikes have persisted, complicating prospects for a peace agreement.
Last year, nearly five million visitors came to the area.
