If you’re looking to add more storage to your device and are considering using an M.2 NVME 2230 drive, here’s what you need to know to make it work properly. Some users have discussed the possibility of installing a 30mm long NVME 2230 drive, which is different from the more common 2280 size. However, there are a couple of important points to keep in mind.

First, while it might be possible to install a 2230 drive, many people have found that the maximum storage capacity for these smaller drives is 256GB. This could be due to outdated hardware limitations, so check if newer memory options with larger capacities are available for your device.

Second, be aware that the memory chips on some 2230 drives are placed very close to the edge of the connector. This tight placement can cause issues, especially with certain models like Western Digital’s 2230 boards, where the chips might interfere with the connector. If you’re considering this upgrade, make sure to measure the space carefully or look for drives specifically compatible with your device.

As an alternative to upgrading your storage, you can also make your current 500GB drive more efficient. Removing unnecessary programs or “bloatware” can free up space. Additionally, storing photos and other files on an external USB drive is a simple way to keep your device running smoothly without adding more internal storage.

By understanding these limitations and options, you can decide whether upgrading to a smaller NVME drive is worth it or if cleaning up your current storage will meet your needs.
