A recent report indicates that one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 titles might arrive sooner than previously expected.
During Sony’s State of Play showcase, Santa Monica Studio revealed God of War Laufey, the next installment in the revered God of War series. The presentation included nearly 20 minutes of gameplay footage and visuals, but no specific release date was announced for this PlayStation 5 exclusive.
Nevertheless, hints suggest an earlier launch. On Bluesky, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier discussed various Sony projects and mentioned Laufey. He advised not to interpret the absence of a release date as an indication that the game is still years away. When asked if it might be released in 2028, Schreier firmly responded, “Absolutely not.”
Given these clues, it seems likely that Laufey could launch sometime in 2027. Interestingly, this aligns with earlier insights from insider leaker NateTheHate, who noted that a new God of War featuring Faye as the protagonist was in development. That source indicated an announcement within this year and a release planned for the first half of 2027, assuming no setbacks occur.
While an official release window remains unconfirmed, signs point toward a relatively swift debut. The previous entry, God of War Ragnarök, launched in 2022, and it’s believed Santa Monica Studio was working on Laufey by then, which makes a 2027 release more plausible.
