Black Flag Stalking Zones are spots in certain Assassin’s Contracts where you can hide and stay undetected. If you see Edward with a white outline, it means you’re in one of these zones. They are made up of bushes or grass patches that conceal you completely. The game originally relied on areas like tall grass for stealth, a mechanic carried over from the first Assassin’s Creed game, where stealth wasn’t optional but automatically triggered in specific areas. The stalking zone system was added later, starting with Assassin’s Creed III, and the manual crouch feature wasn’t introduced until Unity.
Sometimes, missions challenge you to perform kills stealthily. In these cases, you can hide in corners, branches, or anywhere you’re concealed, including stalking zones. However, the white outlined bushes and plants are special hiding spots. There are about 30 of these assassination side quests, which are part of the Black Flag Resynced list. Finding the right hiding spot is key to completing these missions, so expect to look for these zones multiple times if you want to finish every challenge.
