Skyworth Group and Youdoo, a video game console manufacturer supported by a major Chinese consumer electronics company, are teaming up to launch a new console driven by artificial intelligence and motion sensing technology.
The upcoming Youdoo Box, with a price range from CNY1,999 to CNY3,399 (roughly $295 to $500), doesn’t require a traditional gamepad or wearable devices. Instead, players can engage with games or interactive entertainment simply by moving their bodies. The device also offers features to assess whether a player’s fitness movements meet certain standards.
Back in April, Skyworth Digital invested approximately CNY9 million (around $1.3 million) in Youdoo, acquiring an 18% stake in the company based in Shenzhen.
According to Youdoo’s CEO, innovative technologies and changing market needs are opening up new opportunities. The company’s aim is to make its console a key player in home entertainment within the AI-driven era.
Liu Dan referenced the Kinect motion controller developed by Microsoft over ten years ago for its Xbox consoles. He noted that it was eventually phased out due to its high costs, complex infrared and depth camera technology, and limitations in recognition accuracy and response speed, which fell short of gaming expectations.
Advancements in AI vision, especially on devices with low computing power, are making motion sensing technology more feasible for home use. Liu added that the gaming industry tends to focus heavily on mobile devices, leaving room for growth in family entertainment, particularly in living room settings. This presents an ideal moment to introduce the Youdoo Box.
Liu emphasized that the new AI-powered console will complement Skyworth’s existing hardware and software offerings, aiming to fill a gap in China’s domestic gaming console market.
Having spent 20 years at Tencent Games, Liu was the general manager of Tencent Tianxing Studio and contributed to the development and operation of numerous games. He mentioned, “There hasn’t been a Chinese-made global video game console yet,” and explained that he left Tencent to pursue this new venture out of a desire to try something different.
Founded late last July, Youdoo focuses on developing motion-sensing entertainment consoles for home use.
Industry projections suggest that sales of AI motion sensing devices in China will reach around 500,000 units by next year and over 3.5 million units by 2030. A white paper released at the launch by Frost & Sullivan and All View Cloud Data Technology estimates China’s global market share will increase from about 6% to 20% over the next five years.
