Pre-sales for Grand Theft Auto VI will kick off on June 25, according to Rockstar Games on Thursday. The highly awaited game is scheduled for release on November 19, after experiencing two delays. It is the eighth main installment in the popular franchise and arrives more than 13 years after GTA V, which ranks as the second best-selling video game of all time.
Rockstar, a subsidiary of New York-based Take-Two Interactive, shared the release date via a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that pre-orders will be available across digital platforms and selected retail stores. The game’s official cover art was also unveiled, though pricing details have not been disclosed.
Industry insiders estimate the starting price may be around $80, based on recent comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick and industry reports. While the franchise is known for its controversial content, including sexual and violent themes, it has historically allowed players to assume the roles of criminals involved in activities such as drug dealing, fighting, robbing, car rampages, and more. Gameplay also includes visiting strip clubs and interacting with sex workers, which has sparked criticism from advocacy groups.
Originally, the game was expected to launch in 2025, with trailers indicating a setting reminiscent of Miami’s Vice City and the debut of a playable female protagonist for the first time. Despite persistent accusations that the series promotes violence and criminal behavior, Take-Two has denied these claims.
The franchise’s gameplay options remain diverse—from selling drugs to engaging in violent conflicts and criminal pursuits—making it a symbol of both popularity and notoriety within the gaming community.
