If you’re seeing a ThrottlingException with a message about “Too many tokens per day” when trying to use Claude Opus 4.6 in Amazon Bedrock, even on your very first call, you’re not alone. This can be especially frustrating when other models like Sonnet 4.6 are working fine in the same account and region. Here’s a simple way to fix this issue.
First, check all your quotas related to the Claude Opus 4.6 model. Go into the Service Quotas console and look for all quota types associated with this model in your specific region. Sometimes, models have separate limits for tokens per day, which might be different from the tokens per minute or requests per minute limits you see initially.
If you find that your daily token limit is set too low or is actually zero, you can request a higher limit. In the Service Quotas console, locate the quota for Claude Opus 4.6, and submit a request to increase it. This process is straightforward and allows you to specify the amount of increased quota you need.
If you need further help or want to clarify your account limits, you can contact AWS Support. Even with the Basic Support plan, you can open a case for account or billing inquiries. Head over to the AWS Support Center at https://console.aws.amazon.com/support/ and create a new case explaining your quota issue. Keep in mind that while technical support isn’t included at this level, account or billing questions often get addressed quickly.
Lastly, consider reviewing your AWS Support plan options. If you find yourself frequently needing help with technical issues or quicker responses, upgrading to a higher support plan might be a good idea.
While working on these adjustments, keep using models like Sonnet 4.6 that are functioning properly. Once your quota for Claude Opus 4.6 is increased or adjusted, you should be able to use it without running into the daily token limit problem.
