Understanding Darktide Capacitance is key when playing as the Skitarii. This mechanic is unique to them and helps recharge their abilities. However, it’s only briefly explained outside of the basic Skitarii training, so it’s easy to overlook what Capacitance and Charges actually are, even though they’re frequently mentioned in the talent tree. Don’t worry, Alpha Primus. Here’s a simple breakdown of how the Skitarii Capacitance system works so you can improve your build and gameplay.
What is Darktide Capacitance and how does it work?
Capacitance is a percentage-based system for powering your main abilities—like Chordclaw Strike, Voltaic Emitter, or Advanced Combat Doctrines. Unlike abilities with simple cooldowns, Skitarii’s abilities require building up to 100% Capacitance before they can be used. Think of it like an “ultimate charge” in other games, filling up the blue bar over your ability icon during a match.
How it visually looks: It’s represented by a blue bar filling the ability icon. As you play, passing the 100% mark grants you a charge and resets Capacitance back to zero, starting the buildup again. Each ability has a different effect when you use it, influenced by your charges. All Skitarii can hold a maximum of three charges, which are used differently depending on the ability:
- Voltaic Emitter uses all current charges at once, boosting its range and effects.
- Chordclaw Strike can be used once per charge, allowing multiple uses if you have enough charges.
- Advanced Combat Doctrine needs at least one charge to activate but doesn’t consume them. Instead, it drains Capacitance over time and per shot fired, offering a large pool of potential energy if you have full charges.
How to generate Capacitance and Charges:
As a Skitarii, you automatically generate about 2% Capacitance every second. It takes roughly 50 seconds to fully build up without help. You also gain more Capacitance by:
- Killing enemies, which adds 2% per kill.
- Taking down Elites and Specialists, adding 4% per kill.
- Using talents and skills that further boost Capacitance gain.
Additional talents can increase your Capacitance gains and Charges, letting you spam your abilities more often. For example:
- Augmented Power-Cycle: Adds 1% Capacitance each second.
- Reactor Coil Recharge: Gains 2% Capacitance from Weakspot kills.
- Flux Conduit Build-Up: Generates 5% Capacitance over 4 seconds from critical hits.
- Capacitor Reclamation Loop: Earns 1% Capacitance when hitting three or more enemies simultaneously.
- More talents can also increase your maximum number of Charges and the effectiveness of stacking buffs associated with Charges.
Charges explained:
Reaching 100% Capacitance grants you one Charge and resets your Capacitance meter. You can keep up to three Charges at once, and their use depends on the ability:
- Voltaic Emitter consumes all Charges when activated.
- Chordclaw Strike uses one Charge per use.
- Advanced Combat Doctrine requires at least one Charge but does not consume them; instead, it drains Capacitance based on activity.
How to boost Capacitance faster:
While passive generation is standard, talents allow you to increase Capacitance through various methods, like killing weak enemies or landing critical hits. You can also choose talents that:
- Increase your Capacitance gain rate.
- Add additional ways of generating Charges.
- Let you recover Capacitance rapidly after kills.
- Improve your overall ability uptime and efficiency.
Knowing how to manage and build Capacitance effectively will help you unleash powerful abilities more often during your runs. When fully charged, you can unleash devastating attacks that turn the tide of battle.
