Sony’s recent PS Plus schedule update in certain regions has left gamers feeling disappointed. The company announced that subscribers in the U.S., U.K., and Japan will gain access to Extra and Premium games on different dates, while users elsewhere will receive all game titles simultaneously on the third Tuesday of each month.
Some may remember a similar staggered release trial Sony ran over a year ago in places like Australia and Singapore. PlayStation LifeStyle was among the few outlets tracking the confusing rollout, which many players found frustrating and unclear.
Now, gamers in Western regions are voicing comparable frustrations.
One Reddit user lamented, “Maybe Sony thought this would boost interest, but honestly, it just kills the hype when the game I want isn’t available until June 30.” Another added, “These staggered release dates are the worst for consumers; if your subscription is about to end, you’re shortchanged.”
I’ve encountered numerous angry comments from players hoping to finish titles like Life Is Strange: Double Exposure before their membership expires, and I completely get the frustration.
While some argue that a drip-feeding approach to game releases can be beneficial, it’s undeniably frustrating when a much-anticipated game is delayed for release on a different date.
Furthermore, as I pointed out back in 2025, having up to four different release dates within a single month simply isn’t worth the confusion Sony is creating. When you factor in the usual PS Plus Essential schedule, the whole setup becomes even more complicated.
We can only hope Sony will provide an explanation for this staggered rollout soon.
