Subnautica 2’s early access update 1.2 is on its way, following the release of version 1.1 on July 8, 2026. This new update is expected to include even more content than the first, offering fresh experiences for players still exploring the survival game in its early stages.
Just like with update 1.1, you can pick up right where you left off once version 1.2 is available. So, if you’re taking a break or exploring other parts of the game, your progress will be saved, and you can continue whenever you’re ready. Here’s a look at what’s confirmed so far for the multiplayer-focused version 1.2.
### What to Expect from Subnautica 2 Update 1.2
– Voice chat for close-range multiplayer conversations
– The ability to revive teammates
– New emotes for expressing yourself
– Trading system
– And more surprises to come
It’s reasonable to expect that the update will arrive by September at the latest, giving enough time for the bigger content drop—which will introduce new creatures and a new biome—before the year ends. This estimate is based on a developer video where the creative director, Anthony Gallegos, mentioned that the major update would come “later in the year.”
Since the wait for 1.2 is still ongoing, I’ll wait for more details before diving into additional features. But if you’re eager to experience multiplayer with friends, now’s a great time—especially with proximity chat coming soon. Version 1.1 already brought some quality-of-life improvements, like allowing players to store items separately to protect them from automatic usage by the fabricator, and more multiplayer updates are on the way.
