Digital Phablet – Tom Holland recounted an amusing story involving a message he once sent to Erling Haaland. Despite Holland’s fame as one of today’s top actors, even Spider-Man can find himself overlooked occasionally. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Holland shared a funny experience of trying to reach out to Norway’s football star after spotting him at the Monaco Grand Prix last month.
When Fallon inquired about the authenticity of the story, Holland referenced a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), which read, “He doesn’t watch movies, so he thought he was a random person.” Holland admitted he took a chance by reaching out after spotting Haaland in a hospitality suite opposite his. “I was in Monaco, watching Lewis race, and I saw him,” Holland explained. “He was in a suite across from me, and I thought, why not? I sent him a text.”
Unfortunately, his message went unanswered. Holland reflected, “That kind of humbling experience is essential for actors,” he joked. He also shared a screenshot of his failed attempt to DM Haaland, saying, “I figured I’d ask him out to dinner or something, but no response, no excuse—just silence. I mean, he’s busy playing football.” Holland added, “I never thought I’d talk about this on live TV.”
When asked if he’d still be interested in having dinner with Haaland, Holland humorously remarked that the chance might be gone. “I don’t think he’d want to dine with me after Norway lost to England,” he quipped.
Holland also pointed out that Haaland’s perceived disinterest in movies isn’t entirely accurate. The athlete is well aware of Channing Tatum — demonstrated by a viral video where a content creator from Mancity offered him a doll resembling Tatum, minus the short hair. Haaland questioned where the hair was, noting it looked like Tatum. When asked who he was referring to, the creator humorously quoted a line from 21 Jump Street, “My name is Jeff.” Haaland also follows Tatum on Instagram.
While Haaland’s social media followers are primarily sports-focused, he does follow some Latin music icons like Shakira and J Balvin, though few Hollywood A-listers. Clearly, Holland isn’t the only star eager to spend some one-on-one time with the athlete. Since the World Cup, Haaland has risen to considerable fame.
