Digital Phablet – Tom Holland shared a hilarious and somewhat awkward story about trying to message Erling Haaland.
Holland, who is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today, also experiences moments of being overlooked, even by someone as famous as Spider-Man. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he recounted an amusing incident involving his attempt to connect with the Norwegian footballer after seeing him at the Monaco Grand Prix last month.
When Fallon asked if Holland’s story was true, Holland referenced a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “He doesn’t watch movies, so he thought I was just a random person.”
Holland admitted he decided to “shoot his shot” after spotting Haaland in a hospitality suite opposite his at the event. “I was at Monaco. I was watching Lewis Hamilton race, and I noticed him,” Holland explained. “He was in a hospitality suite across from me, so I thought I’d try my luck and send him a message.”
Unfortunately, Holland’s message went unanswered. “Honestly, that sort of humbling experience is really important for actors,” he joked.
He further shared a tweet that showed his attempt to reach Haaland, which received no reply, despite his hopes to maybe grab dinner or have a chat. “I thought, ‘I’ll just message him. Maybe invite him to dinner,’” Holland said. “But I got no response, no excuse, not even a ‘I’m busy tonight.’ Just silence. I was basically just playing football—the message never even registered. I never imagined I’d be talking about this on live TV.”
When Fallon asked if Holland still wanted to have dinner with Haaland, the actor humorously suggested that the chance might have already passed, especially after Norway’s recent defeat to England. “I don’t think he’d want to have dinner with me now after that,” he quipped.
Holland also clarified that his perception of Haaland not watching movies isn’t entirely accurate. He mentioned a viral clip where a content creator from Mancity presented Haaland with a small doll resembling him, only to be asked about the doll’s hair — which Haaland commented looked like Channing Tatum. When asked who the doll was meant to resemble, the creator jokingly quoted a famous line from 21 Jump Street, “My name is Jeff,” and noted that Haaland follows Tatum on Instagram.
While Haaland mainly follows athletes and Latin music stars like Shakira and J Balvin, it’s clear that Hollywood personalities, including Tom Holland, are eager to connect with him. Since the World Cup, Haaland has become one of the most talked-about athletes, capturing the interest of many stars and fans alike.
