The 2026 FIA Formula E World Championship Shanghai E-Prix took place at the Shanghai International Circuit over the weekend. Despite heavy rains, the event tested drivers’ skills and heightened excitement for the thousands of spectators in attendance.
Twenty elite drivers representing ten leading teams battled fiercely on the track, watched by more than 45,000 fans. Pascal Wehrlein, a Porsche driver, secured victory in the opening race on July 4, while Lucas di Grassi, racing for LOLA Yamaha, claimed the win in the second race the following day.
Formula E is the world’s premier all-electric racing series and uniquely certified as having a net-zero carbon footprint since its launch. It functions as a modern platform for automakers to evaluate their electric vehicle technologies and advanced driving systems.
This season, the championship features 12 races across various cities globally. Since 2021, the series has been racing with GEN3 cars, with plans to introduce next year’s new-generation GEN4 vehicles.
Racers accelerate into a tight turn, with Wehrlein leading the pack. Fans equipped with raincoats and umbrellas eagerly watch drivers cross the wet course. During a pit stop, Nissan’s Norman Nato wipes his helmet’s visor. Wehrlein celebrates his victory by spraying champagne, sharing the moment with António Félix Da Costa of Jaguar TCS Racing and Jake Dennis from Andretti, who finished second and third.
Spectators try to capture photos of the race, peeking from behind fences and barriers.
