On August 20, reports indicated that Foxconn, the major supplier for Apple in China, has been recruiting over a thousand workers daily across its factories, as the launch of the newest iPhone series approaches in less than a month. Multiple recruitment agents confirmed the mass hiring activity.
One recruiter mentioned at a Shenzhen talent market that their company sent between 100 and 200 employees to Foxconn today. When including other agencies, the total number of new hires is estimated to surpass 1,000 workers.
Most of the new recruits yesterday were assigned to Foxconn’s Shenzhen facilities. Additionally, dozens of workers with luggage were seen boarding buses en route to the Zhengzhou plant, which is recognized as the largest iPhone assembly site globally.
The Zhengzhou plant continues to attract many job seekers, with a local firm involved in iPhone assembly at the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone also actively hiring. According to local recruitment updates, workers can expect to earn approximately CNY19,200 to CNY23,000 (about USD2,670 to USD3,200) over a three-month period, including base pay and allowances.
Last year, the average monthly salary for employees in private urban companies in Zhengzhou was roughly CNY4,810 (USD670), as per regional statistical data.
However, wages offered by Foxconn in Zhengzhou have decreased compared to previous years. Several agents forecast that wages will continue to decline after this week until the peak hiring season concludes in mid-September.
Apple has been experiencing sales pressure, primarily due to a lack of significant innovations in recent iPhone models. Its global shipments declined by 2 percent in the last quarter compared to the previous year, leaving it in second place by market share, according to market research firm Canalys.
Further, iPhone shipments in China dropped 1.3 percent, placing the brand fifth in the local market, according to recent data from International Data Corporation.
