  • Elon Musk Sets New Target Date for Mars Starship Mission

Elon Musk Sets New Target Date for Mars Starship Mission

According to a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the company plans to conduct approximately five uncrewed Starship missions to Mars within the next two years.

Musk indicated that if these uncrewed flights successfully land on the Martian surface, the inaugural crewed mission could potentially be launched as soon as 2028. However, he cautioned that if any obstacles arise, such missions could be delayed by an additional two years due to the optimal windows for travel between Earth and Mars. He stated, “We want to give everyone an opportunity to become space travelers and visit Mars! This includes you, your family, and your friends—anyone who dreams of grand adventures. In the future, there will be thousands of Starships heading to Mars, and it will be a magnificent spectacle to behold! Can you picture it? Amazing!”

It’s important to recognize that Musk’s timelines regarding space ventures frequently shift. Back in 2016, he mentioned plans for a Mars rocket launch as early as 2018, and in 2022, he suggested that Starship might make its inaugural journey to the planet this year.

Musk’s latest remarks follow ongoing anticipation as SpaceX awaits crucial approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to move forward with the fifth orbital test flight of the Starship, which consists of the Super Heavy first stage and the upper-stage Starship vehicle.

The FAA is currently assessing the environmental implications of the Starship flights, alongside the safety measures being taken for the upcoming flight. SpaceX has been informed that they cannot proceed until this evaluation is completed. The FAA recently stated that it could take up to the end of November to conclude this process.

In response to criticism from SpaceX regarding the delays, the FAA clarified that SpaceX’s existing license for the fourth test flight allows for multiple flights under the same vehicle configuration and mission profile. However, the agency noted that SpaceX decided to modify both aspects for the proposed fifth launch, which required a more extensive review. They also mentioned that new information submitted by Musk’s company in August indicated that the environmental effects of Flight 5 would encompass a wider area than previously considered, necessitating consultation with other agencies and additional time for the investigation.

Musk expressed his aspiration to establish a human presence on multiple planets “before a critical event occurs on Earth that hinders that potential—be it a nuclear conflict, a supervirus, or societal collapse that diminishes our civilization’s capability to send supplies to Mars.” He attributed delays in the Starship testing program and other significant engineering projects to what he perceives as excessive government regulation.

While Musk’s frustrations regarding the slow pace of the Starship testing program resonate with many, others argue that such regulations are vital for ensuring public safety, adhering to industry standards, minimizing catastrophic risks, and protecting ecosystems.

  • Concord Lead Steps Down After Launch Failure

Concord Lead Steps Down After Launch Failure

As reported by Kotaku’s Ethan Gach, game director Ryan Ellis informed his team last week about his decision to step down. He will be moving into a more supportive role, according to various sources.

Ellis had been the public face of the studio, with his name tied to PlayStation’s announcements regarding the game, including the one stating the shooter would be pulled after just two weeks. It was also removed from digital storefronts, and players across all platforms were refunded.

“While some elements of the game connected with players, we acknowledge that other parts of the launch did not meet expectations,” the official statement noted.

“Ryan truly believed in the project and aimed to bring players together,” shared a former developer with Kotaku. “Although there were areas for improvement, he is a kind person with a genuine passion for the game.”

Reports also suggest that the rest of the team is currently in limbo as they wait to hear what comes next after Concord was taken offline to reconsider options for improvement. While there is potential for the game to return, many staff members remain doubtful, with some already preparing their resumes.

“Some team members have been asked to pitch completely new ideas for Firewalk, which currently has around 150-170 employees,” Gach mentioned.

Additionally, Gach confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the company suffered from a culture of “toxic positivity,” a problem that also reportedly affected another Sony-owned studio, Bungie, leading up to a large restructuring earlier this year.

Concord is now seen as one of the biggest gaming disappointments in recent memory. After its August 20 launch on PlayStation 5 and PC, it struggled to gain traction, with fewer than 700 concurrent players on Steam within a week. Analyst Simon Carless estimated the game sold only 25,000 copies. This followed eight years of development and the game was officially taken offline on September 6.

Sony Repairs PS5 Issue Hurting Final Fantasy 16

Players of Final Fantasy 16 on PlayStation 5 encountered severe graphical glitches after a recent firmware update. However, Sony has now released a fix to address these issues. Square Enix confirmed this update on the official Final Fantasy 16 X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday.

In the statement, Square Enix mentioned, “In response to crashes and graphical issues that occurred on the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy 16, Sony Interactive Entertainment has released a new system update. We encourage players to download and install the update.” Read the full post here. They also added that they will continue to collaborate with Sony on this issue.

Sony didn’t provide specific details beyond releasing system update 24.06-10.01.00. In their official patch notes, they only stated that the update improves the system’s performance and stability.

Some PlayStation 5 users also reported problems with other titles, including Death Stranding: Director’s Cut and No Man’s Sky. Although Square Enix is the only studio to publicly address these issues, they confirmed they are collaborating with Sony to resolve them. “Following the recent PlayStation system update, we have received reports of crashes and graphical bugs, and we are working with Sony Interactive Entertainment to investigate,” the studio said earlier this week.

The bugs surfaced after last week’s release of PS5 system update 24.06-10.00.00, which introduced features like the Welcome Hub, party share, and 3D audio customization. Some users reported extreme glitches, such as one player’s environment in Final Fantasy 16 glitching completely out of existence. The issues became so widespread that the game’s subreddit organized a thread to track and discuss solutions.

  • Europa Clipper Solves Transistor Issue Ready For Launch Next Month

Europa Clipper Solves Transistor Issue Ready For Launch Next Month

In May, NASA’s Europa Clipper engineers encountered a setback no one wants to face: an issue with some transistors on the spacecraft. The Clipper is bound for Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, but the harsh radiation surrounding Jupiter poses a risk to the spacecraft’s electronics. There was concern that some of these transistors could be damaged, potentially reducing the spacecraft’s lifespan.

The engineers shared their worries with The New York Times, describing the realization with “a howl of terror.” They spent the summer working on solutions, assessing the potential damage, and determining how it might affect the mission. With the launch date fast approaching, time was of the essence.

Now, however, the team is confident that the spacecraft will function as required. They discovered a method to “heal” the transistors by heating them through a process called annealing, which rearranges the atoms to keep them operational. While not a permanent fix, it should allow the spacecraft to carry out its mission, which is expected to last four years.

In a recent press conference, NASA officials confirmed their readiness for the upcoming launch and outlined the extensive tests and preparations completed. Jordan Evans, Europa Clipper project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, detailed the testing process. “We’ve conducted thorough testing at JPL, APU [Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory], and NASA Goddard,” Evans said. “We took Europa Clipper into a vacuum chamber to mimic the cold space environment, ensuring it can withstand both hot and cold conditions. We also performed vibration and acoustic testing to simulate the Falcon Heavy rocket launch, testing the spacecraft’s ability to handle the noise and shaking during the mission.”

The team also tested the spacecraft’s fault detection systems by simulating issues such as disconnected wires, and even recreated Jupiter’s electromagnetic environment to ensure the electronics function properly. Final preparations are ongoing, including optimizing the flight trajectory and performing the last touches on the spaceflight hardware and boosters.

The Europa Clipper is set to launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with the launch window opening on October 10. As the countdown continues, the team is focused on ensuring the spacecraft is ready for its journey to explore Jupiter’s moon.

  • MacBook Air M4 May Launch Sooner Than Expected

MacBook Air M4 May Launch Sooner Than Expected

According to a report from MacRumors, display analyst Ross Young has shared that shipments for the MacBook Air M4 panels are scheduled to start in October. This information, shared via a subscriber-only tweet, suggests the next version of the MacBook Air could arrive in early 2025. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman supported this, confirming that Apple is targeting the first quarter of 2025 for the MacBook Air M4 release.

While these dates align with analyst estimates, it’s worth keeping in mind that product timelines can shift. Companies may delay releases due to production issues or market strategies, so treat these predictions cautiously.

New MacBook Air and iPad Display Panels

Besides the MacBook Air, Apple is also expected to start panel shipments for a 10.9-inch entry-level iPad next month. However, unlike the MacBook Air, this iPad may see a later launch. Initial rumors suggested it would debut alongside new M4 Macs next month, but it now seems the iPad’s release might be delayed.

When Will the MacBook Air M4 Launch?

Current reports point to a launch window of January to March 2025 for the MacBook Air M4. Display panel shipments for the device are starting in October, and this aligns with the idea of a Q1 release next year. Analysts tracking supply chains and production trends have often been accurate in forecasting Apple’s timelines.

That said, there’s always a chance that Apple could tweak its plans. While this prediction seems solid, it’s always wise to keep an eye out for any official updates from the company itself.

Apple’s Product Line and M4 Chip Updates

    • MacBook Air M4 panel shipments begin in October 2024.
    • Apple aims to refresh its entire Mac lineup with M4 chips by the end of 2025.
    • 10.9-inch iPad panel shipments will also start next month, with its release expected later.

By the end of 2025, Apple plans to update its entire Mac lineup to the M4 chip, meaning all its computers will run on the same generation of processors. The MacBook Air is likely to be one of the first models to roll out with this new chip, followed by other devices.

The Future of RAM in MacBooks

Another rumor circulating is that Apple may increase the minimum RAM in its MacBook Air models. Currently, the MacBook Pro is expected to move to a 16GB RAM baseline, which could lead Apple to upgrade the Air to the same. While this remains speculation, it would be a significant improvement, especially for users who find the 8GB option limiting.

Many MacBook buyers opt for the lowest RAM configuration to save on costs, but that choice can impact their computer’s long-term performance. With higher RAM, users would benefit from smoother multitasking and better future-proofing for resource-intensive tasks.

    Looking Ahead

As we move into the next year, there’s plenty of anticipation surrounding Apple’s Mac lineup. With expected releases like the M4 MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac, and iPad mini, there’s much to look forward to. We’ll continue to monitor developments and keep you updated as Apple makes official announcements.

  • Analyst Thinks Nintendo Can Win Palworld Lawsuit

Analyst Thinks Nintendo Can Win Palworld Lawsuit

A character aiming a gun in Palworld.
    Pocketpair

This week, Nintendo made headlines in the gaming world by filing a lawsuit against Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, for allegedly violating “numerous patent rights.” Although Nintendo has not specified the patents in question, and Pocketpair is in the dark as well, industry analyst Serkan Toto believes Nintendo is likely to come out on top in this legal battle.

In a conversation with 404 Media, Toto, who leads the gaming consultancy Kantan Games in Japan, pointed out that Nintendo has a track record of suing companies over patent issues. Even when cases are settled outside of court, they often result in Nintendo either securing licensing fees or having a game, application, or product removed from circulation.

Toto commented, “I believe they are trying to inflict as much financial harm as possible on Pocketpair. I doubt Nintendo would pursue a lawsuit like this without confidence in their chances of winning.”

Although Palworld hadn’t even launched its early access phase in January 2024, many gamers quickly noted its resemblances to Pokémon, dubbing it “Pokémon with guns” in discussions. Following its release, some players observed that the creatures known as Pals in the game bore striking similarities to well-known Pokémon designs. However, while capturing creatures is a key element, Palworld emphasizes survival, crafting, and utilizing Pals for resource management over just collecting them. This has led to speculation about whether Nintendo would take legal action.

The specific patents invoked in the lawsuit have not yet been confirmed, but many speculate that one may reference a patent for capturing characters with a ball.

Toto suggests that Nintendo is likely motivated by the financial success of Palworld and sought to address it, although they couldn’t pursue the creature designs directly due to lack of a valid claim there.

“It’s clear that Nintendo has a strong dislike for this company, and since they couldn’t find a grounds for arguing against the creature designs, they’re focusing on these technical details instead,” Toto stated.

It appears that Nintendo is more interested in securing licensing fees from Pocketpair rather than shutting down the game completely. Nevertheless, this lawsuit could be damaging for the smaller developer. Toto compared it to Nintendo’s previous lawsuit against Colopl, a mobile game developer, concerning patent infringement, leading to a settlement where Colopl paid a 3.3 million yen fee, along with ongoing licensing obligations, according to Siliconera.

“I’m confident that Nintendo wouldn’t have filed this lawsuit unless they were highly certain of their likelihood to win,” Toto added.

Known for its aggressive legal tactics, Nintendo’s recent focus has largely been on suing entities involved in emulation hardware and software. Earlier this year, the developers of the Switch emulator Yuzu settled for $2.4 million and ceased operations immediately. Additionally, Nintendo has issued cease-and-desist letters to numerous fan projects, resulting in the removal of around 379 games from Game Jolt in 2021.

    Apple

Apple unveiled macOS Sequoia on Monday, but this update has disrupted the functionalities of certain networking and security applications from firms like Microsoft, CrowdStrike, and SentinelOne, as reported by Bleeping Computer. Users on Reddit are noting their challenges with security solutions like ESET Endpoint Security and CrowdStrike Falcon.

Other issues include firewalls causing packet corruptions, SSL failures in web browsers, and difficulties executing the “curl” or “get” commands. Users can temporarily resolve these concerns by disabling the security tools, suggesting an incompatibility with the new network stack—however, this isn’t a long-term solution many would prefer.

Bleeping Computer has revealed an internal warning where CrowdStrike advises users to refrain from upgrading to macOS 15, stating, “Due to changes to internal networking structures on macOS 15 Sequoia, customers should hold off on upgrading until a Mac sensor is available that fully supports macOS 15 Sequoia.” SentinelOne support echoed similar advice to their users.

    ESET

ESET has alerted affected users with guidance for resolving their issues. The company recommends navigating to System Settings > Network > Filters > Remove ESET Network. They clarified that this solution is applicable only for Endpoint Security version 8.1.6.0 or newer, and ESET Cyber Security version 7.5.74.0 or newer, as older versions do not support this fix.

VPN services are also experiencing difficulties, with users reporting problems with Mullvad VPN and corporate solutions. However, Proton VPN continues to function smoothly on the latest macOS 15 release. Apple has not yet provided official commentary on the problems, but a note from the macOS 15 release hints that an outdated component in the Firewall may be the culprit.

This situation isn’t unprecedented; earlier releases of Apple’s operating systems have led to similar issues. When macOS Ventura launched, it prompted a series of disruptions that echoed sentiments shared by longtime iOS and Mac security expert Patrick Wardle on his LinkedIn page.

Wardle noted, “Déjà vu?! Did Apple *again* release a new OS that *again* impacts third-party security tools?” He commented on a bug from two years ago involving macOS Ventura that caused comparable problems, suggesting the core issue may lie within the macOS firewall or its lower-level networking extension subsystem that leads to packet corruption and other accidental alterations in network structures.

If you rely on these tools, it may be wise to delay your upgrade. It’s hoped that Apple will release a patch soon, allowing Mac users to enjoy the latest features without compatibility concerns.

  • Apple Watch Faces You Won’t Like in watchOS 11

Apple Watch Faces You Won’t Like in watchOS 11

Many users have recently upgraded their Apple Watches to watchOS 11, while others are patiently anticipating the release of the Apple Watch Series 10 or the black Apple Watch Ultra 2, both of which come with watchOS 11 preloaded. This latest update introduces a range of exciting features; however, it also signifies the discontinuation of certain options.

With the launch of watchOS 11, four watch faces have been removed: Chronograph, Explorer, Numerals, and Siri. The removal of the Siri face makes sense as it has been replaced by the new Smart Stack. However, the elimination of the other three faces raises some questions.

The Chronograph watch face has been a staple since the original Apple Watch debuted ten years ago. From watchOS 7 onward, it coexisted with the Chronograph Pro face.

The Explorer face was introduced alongside the Apple Watch Series 3, which featured LTE capabilities. This analog face was exclusive to LTE-enabled models, providing users with a quick glance at their cellular signal strength.

The decision to drop the Numerals watch face is particularly confusing. It was designed with numerical hour markers behind the analog hands and included minimal customization options, making its removal surprising.

Apple has yet to explain the rationale behind the removal of these watch faces with watchOS 11. This appears to be the first occurrence of such discontinuation of watch faces in the history of the Apple Watch.

Despite these removals, Apple did introduce three new watch faces in watchOS 11. The Photos watch face utilizes machine learning to help users select the most visually appealing pictures based on various factors such as composition and facial expressions. Additionally, it includes a Dynamic mode that showcases a different image each time the user’s wrist is raised.

Another new addition, the Flux watch face, features an upward-scrolling time display in an array of colors, creating a captivating visual experience. Lastly, the Reflections watch face presents animations and ripple effects that respond to wrist movements.

Along with the introduction of these new watch faces and the updated Smart Stack, watchOS 11 also brings a new Vitals health app, a Translate app, and enhancements to the Workout, Activity, and Home apps, among other features.

  • Reasons For The SpaceX Crew-9 Launch Delay

Reasons For The SpaceX Crew-9 Launch Delay

The SpaceX Crew-9 mission, which will send two astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a Crew Dragon spacecraft, has encountered another delay. This latest setback is just for one day, with the new launch date now scheduled for September 26.

The mission was initially planned for an August 18 launch with a crew of four, but was postponed to accommodate the return of the struggling Boeing Starliner capsule, which went back to the ISS uncrewed. Following this decision, NASA opted to keep astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams—who arrived at the ISS on the Starliner—stationed there as part of Crew-9. Consequently, the Crew Dragon will have two empty seats reserved for them to use for their return in February of the following year.

The Crew-9 launch was once again set for September 25, but teams requested an additional day to finalize prelaunch operations, including hardware processing at Space Launch Complex 40 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. NASA officials noted that this delay would also allows for ongoing weather monitoring prior to liftoff.

The revised launch time is set for 2:05 p.m. ET (11:05 a.m. PT) on Thursday, September 26. The mission will see NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov embarking on the journey. They will work alongside Wilmore and Williams, in addition to three Soyuz crew members, and current Crew-8 members who will depart for Earth after a brief handover.

This mission marks Hague’s second visit to the ISS, although it’s his third space launch, considering he also participated in another mission that was aborted shortly after takeoff. He previously made it to the station during Expeditions 59 and 60 in 2019 and has accumulated a total of 203 days in space to date.

Upon their arrival, the crew will engage in various scientific experiments, such as studying blood cell development in a microgravity environment and exploring the potential benefits of vitamin B supplements in mitigating vision issues associated with long-duration space missions. They will also attend to maintenance tasks on the station, including the installation of special patches on an X-ray telescope known as NICER, which is mounted on the ISS. These patches are designed to prevent light leaks and enhance the accuracy of the telescope’s readings.

  • $75 Million Blockbuster Shot Entirely On An iPhone

$75 Million Blockbuster Shot Entirely On An iPhone

The eagerly awaited horror film 28 Years Later has been filmed entirely on the iPhone 15, as reported by Wired on Thursday. With a budget of $75 million, this marks a significant milestone as the largest budget film to use a smartphone for its production.

The main shooting for Danny Boyle’s movie wrapped up last month, with the movie slated for a theatrical release in June 2025. Crew members were allegedly asked to sign non-disclosure agreements to prevent any leaks regarding the shooting method. It’s likely that Apple, in collaboration with the filmmakers, was planning a grand showcase to demonstrate the iPhone’s impressive filmmaking capabilities, but the news from Wired could alter those plans.

Initial speculation that Boyle was employing a smartphone for some scenes emerged in July when a paparazzi photo of the movie set revealed what appeared to be a specialized protective cage housing something that clearly wasn’t a typical film camera—likely a premium smartphone.

Wired conducted further inquiries and confirmed with multiple sources connected to the film that Boyle indeed utilized several iPhone 15 Pro Max devices, which were rigged with sophisticated equipment, to capture pivotal scenes for 28 Years Later.

The involvement of a prestigious filmmaker like Danny Boyle in a major production using an iPhone is a tremendous boost for Apple, enhancing the company’s reputation for producing smartphones known for outstanding image quality.

Apple had previously showcased the iPhone 15’s filmmaking prowess during its Scary Fast event last October, where it introduced the new MacBook Pro and iMac with M3 chips. Remarkably, all visuals, including presenters, locations, and drone shots displayed during the event, were filmed using the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, as noted in earlier discussions—and applicable to 28 Years Later as well—the phone was complemented by a suite of advanced filmmaking gear including lighting, dollies, and cranes, alongside a skilled post-production team that helped craft the footage into an engaging narrative. The results from such a compact device are remarkable, and anticipation is high to see what Boyle has accomplished with this technology.

  • GTA 5 Is No Longer Supported On Steam Deck

GTA 5 Is No Longer Supported On Steam Deck

One of Steam’s most popular games, Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5), has run into a problem for Steam Deck users. Both GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online are no longer supported on Valve’s handheld console.

In an update for version 1.69, Rockstar Games explained that Steam Deck support was dropped due to the integration of BattlEye Anti-Cheat for GTA Online. While this addition aims to combat cheating in the game’s online mode, it also led to the game becoming unsupported on Steam Deck.

Valve now marks the game as “unsupported” under its Deck Verified program, meaning it’s considered unplayable on the device. Although players can still enjoy the single-player GTA 5 campaign, GTA Online is no longer accessible, and overall support for the game on the Steam Deck has been removed.

This affects a significant number of players. Despite being nearly ten years old, GTA 5 remains one of the most popular games on PC. As of now, it ranks 11th on Steam Deck’s most-played list over the past year, with over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB.

The addition of BattlEye, which has been widely requested by players due to cheating issues, was introduced on Tuesday. The software tracks IP addresses, hardware, and other details from players to detect cheating. BattlEye can be turned off when not playing GTA Online, as noted in the official Rockstar FAQ.

It’s unclear why BattlEye created this compatibility issue, especially since in 2021, the company announced support for Proton, the OS layer that allows Steam Deck’s Linux system to run Windows games. According to The Verge, BattlEye should still function and be easy to enable for developers.

Valve also commented in 2021 that enabling BattlEye for Proton required minimal effort from developers. It works for other games like Rainbow Six Siege, Destiny 2, and The Crew 2 on Steam. However, the integration of external game launchers, such as those from EA or Rockstar, can cause issues, potentially contributing to GTA 5‘s problems on Steam Deck.

A Reddit user who contacted Steam support mentioned that Valve is collaborating with Rockstar on a fix, and the publisher has “heavily discounted the game” in the meantime. Currently, the premium edition of GTA 5 is 25% off, and a bundle with the Great White Shark Card is discounted by 66%, now available for $20.

SpaceX Fires Up Starship Engines For Fifth Test Flight

SpaceX recently conducted a static fire test involving all six engines of its Starship spacecraft while it awaits clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the fifth test launch of the powerful rocket.

The pioneering space company, led by Elon Musk, shared visuals of the engine test on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. The video captures the engines igniting while the spacecraft remains on the launch pad.

For its missions, the Starship is launched into orbit by the Super Heavy booster, which generates an astounding 17 million pounds of thrust at lift-off, making it the strongest rocket ever constructed.

To date, the Super Heavy booster and Starship spacecraft—collectively referred to as Starship—have undergone four launch attempts, with each showing incremental improvements over its predecessors.

The first launch, which occurred in April of last year, ended in an explosion shortly after takeoff from SpaceX’s facility in Boca Chica, Texas. The second flight, seven months later, successfully achieved stage separation but ultimately also resulted in an explosion, a dramatic moment captured on video. The subsequent third and fourth launches lasted significantly longer and accomplished several mission objectives, including successfully placing the Starship into orbit.

According to recent reports, the fifth flight test is not expected to take place until November at the earliest. This trial will see SpaceX attempt to use enormous mechanical arms to “catch” the Super Heavy booster as it returns to the landing zone. SpaceX has expressed its frustration regarding the timeframe for the FAA’s investigation, which is necessary for the fifth test to proceed. The company has indicated its readiness to launch the spacecraft within days upon receiving FAA approval.

After testing is finalized, NASA plans to utilize the Starship, in conjunction with its Space Launch System rocket, to transport astronauts and supplies to the moon, and potentially even further destinations like Mars. NASA has already made plans to adapt the Starship for landing the first astronauts on the lunar surface in fifty years, as part of the Artemis III mission, currently scheduled for 2026.

  • New Monument Valley 3 Details Revealed With Pre-Registration Open

New Monument Valley 3 Details Revealed With Pre-Registration Open

Pre-registration is now available for Monument Valley 3, the latest mobile offering from Netflix. Prior to its reveal during Netflix Geeked Week, Digital Trends got a closer look at what fans can expect from this exciting new chapter and previewed two of its chapters.

As the newest installment in the beloved mobile puzzle franchise, Monument Valley 3 follows 2017’s Monument Valley 2. This installment is set to launch on mobile devices through Netflix on December 10. In preparation for this release, Netflix will make the first two games accessible on its platform on September 19 and October 29, respectively.

Ustwo, the game’s developer, has described this newest edition as the most ambitious yet. The narrative revolves around Nor, an apprentice lighthouse keeper, who embarks on a journey through fantastical and perplexing architecture. While the series has previously explored themes such as forgiveness and coming-of-age adventures, Monument Valley 3 delves into hope and unity. In a recent discussion with the press, director Jennifer Estaris highlighted that the story addresses resilience amidst considerable adversity, paralleling the challenges faced by both Nor and those we encounter in our everyday lives.

As part of our preview, we were treated to a look at two distinct chapters, showcasing how this sequel expands upon its predecessor. The first segment featured Nor navigating a river by boat, passing through gates—a welcome addition that allows for a greater sense of space and exploration compared to earlier entries in the series. This feature enhances the feeling of a vibrant, expansive world beyond the traditional puzzle rooms.

The second segment introduced a level crafted from unfolding cubes. Initially reminiscent of classic Monument Valley environments, this chapter preserves the series’ trademark visual puzzles while providing a fresh mechanic: players can alter pathways by tapping to unfold parts of the scenery, reshaping the level. This innovative twist remains true to the series’ legacy while introducing new gameplay elements that enrich the experience.

Although the gameplay glimpsed thus far is limited, there’s a significant buzz surrounding Monument Valley 3. It appears to retain the captivating puzzle elements that endeared the first two titles to players while simultaneously innovating with new features and gameplay strategies that enhance the overall experience.

Monument Valley 3 is set to release on December 10 on iOS and Android via Netflix, and pre-registration is currently open.

  • More To macOS Sequoia Than Apple Intelligence Alone

More To macOS Sequoia Than Apple Intelligence Alone

When considering macOS Sequoia, it’s hard to overlook the buzz surrounding Apple Intelligence. However, that’s somewhat unfortunate. With its staggered rollout and narrower focus, it shouldn’t overshadow the many compelling reasons to install macOS Sequoia right now, even though some Apple Intelligence features have just landed in the public beta.

Don’t misunderstand me; enhancements like a more sophisticated Siri, improved search capabilities, and AI-based writing tools are impressive. Yet, the real draw of Sequoia goes far beyond these aspects.

Key updates such as iPhone Mirroring and Window Tiling truly represent the significant advancements that bring a modern feel to the Mac experience. Mac users have been waiting for Window Tiling for quite some time now.

You’re likely familiar with these features, but they merely scratch the surface. I have to commend the team at MacRumors for their exhaustive compilation of all the subtle yet impactful changes in the operating system. This time, they’ve uncovered 50 updates—ranging from major enhancements to minor tweaks—all worth exploring.

For instance, did you know that macOS Sequoia includes a graphic refresh for the built-in Chess game that’s been a staple for over 20 years? And have you heard of “Hover Typing”? This feature is designed for individuals with low vision, enlarging text fields across your display.

One of my favorite newcomers is Distraction Control in Safari. While it’s not a traditional ad blocker since it doesn’t permanently remove ads, it’s a valuable tool for creating a less chaotic web browsing experience.

The MacRumors article also highlights various smaller details that enhance the larger features. For instance, the new built-in Password manager for macOS has a setting that allows users to display passwords directly in the menu bar, making access incredibly convenient. Furthermore, you can eliminate the margins between tiled windows to gain more screen real estate, especially useful for those working on smaller MacBook displays.

I’m particularly excited to try out Vocal Shortcuts, which let you turn spoken commands into actions. This could significantly improve accessibility, enabling users to launch apps or initiate Siri requests without needing their hands.

While these updates may not be as flashy as the capabilities intended with Apple Intelligence, they nonetheless contribute to a more refined experience in macOS. In a year where AI seems to be at the forefront of every tech company’s agenda, it’s refreshing to see Apple focusing on these valuable quality-of-life improvements to an OS that doesn’t always receive the recognition it deserves.
