A highly anticipated new PS5 action game, initially revealed in November 2025, now has an official release date and will be available soon. Titled Armatus, this game was unexpectedly announced by Counterplay Games, known for developing Godfall. Along with the announcement, the studio released a new trailer showcasing gameplay and details.
Godfall Developer’s Exciting PS5 Action Game Armatus Scheduled for January 2027 Launch
Armatus is set to launch on January 7, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Described as “a third-person roguelite shooter set in the demon-infested ruins of Paris,” Armatus promises intense combat and atmospheric exploration.
“Playing as the last supernatural warrior of an ancient order, equipped with formidable firearms and celestial powers, you’ll explore the city in search of a lost gateway to heaven—the Sunless Gate,” an official description states. “Knowledge is your weapon, and death is just another step. Each run challenges you to wield your scythe and chosen firearm against relentless demons hellbent on your destruction.”
The announcement of Armatus came roughly a year after rumors suggested that Counterplay Games had disbanded. A team member from a partner studio mentioned the disbandment on their verified LinkedIn profile, but the company itself never officially confirmed these reports.
This will be Counterplay’s third game. Their previous titles, Godfall and Duelyst, did not achieve significant commercial success.
