If you’re experiencing trouble installing the Windows Admin Center extension on your Azure Local cluster where Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC) is enabled, here’s a simple solution to get you back on track while waiting for a permanent fix.
First, check if WDAC is turned on in your environment. If it is, you’ll need to temporarily change its setting. Switch WDAC from enforced mode to audit mode on your local server. Doing this allows the installation process to run without being blocked by WDAC policies.
Once you’ve made this change, try installing the Windows Admin Center extension again. If the installation finishes successfully, don’t forget to revert WDAC back to enforced mode to keep your system protected.
While these steps are helpful, it’s also important to aid the support team in understanding the issue better. To do that, gather the necessary logs:
– All event logs from the affected server
– Any 0.log files related to the extension installation
– The portal logs or HAR file from when you replicated the issue through the Azure portal
Sharing these logs will help the engineering team confirm whether the problem is related to the known WDAC issue and work faster to find a complete solution.
