The top initial Pals in Palworld aren’t handed to you like in Pokémon. Instead, you need to catch your first Pal just like any other creature. Knowing which ones to look for when you start exploring the Palpagos Islands can be very helpful.
At the beginning, you’ll mostly find lower-level Pals that are easy to catch. However, it’s smart to find one that will be your best partner during those early stages. Since there are more starter options than you might think, I’ll explain which ones are worth focusing on first and why.
Which Pal Should You Catch First in Palworld?
Here are the best starter Pals for players just starting out:
- Daedream
This floating dark spirit is your top choice early on. It only appears at night but can be found quite often across the map. Its glowing purple head makes it easy to spot from a distance, so keep an eye out after sunset.
Daedream makes a great first Pal because it’s very useful in fights. Its ranged attacks rarely miss, and its typing means it deals extra damage to most of the low-level Pals you encounter early in the game. This helps you win battles faster and gather experience points more efficiently, making it easier to catch other important Pals needed for work.
Later, you can craft a special necklace for Daedream, which allows it to shoot projectiles while it stays in your party, giving you a big advantage in combat.

- Foxparks
Your second option should be Foxparks, easy to spot from a distance thanks to their fiery tails. You might need to venture into forests to find them, but they’re worth it. During the early game, their type advantage and ranged attacks help them avoid taking too much damage from other Pals and prevent getting stuck on the terrain.
A fire-type Pal like Foxparks is especially useful for working at your base, making them a solid choice for early team building.
- Tanzee
Don’t forget to catch a Tanzee, the green monkey. It’s a decent fighter for the beginning of the game and has a variety of skills that make it a helpful worker at your base. Many players find Tanzee useful for farming and other tasks, making it a versatile addition to your team.

Remember, selecting the right early Pals can make a significant difference in your journey through Palworld. Keep an eye out for these options to build a strong team from the start.
