PlayStation 5 players will soon experience a nostalgic throwback with the return of a beloved classic shooter franchise. Publisher Commodore and developer Antstream, in collaboration with Team17, have announced a special collection featuring the Alien Breed series.

The original run of Alien Breed in the 1990s saw several entries released across that decade. Now, these games are being revived with updated graphics and smooth gameplay for today’s platforms, including the PlayStation 5.

To mark the 35th anniversary of the series, Commodore and Antstream introduced the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection. Fans will get to play six titles from the initial series, such as Alien Breed, Alien Breed Special Edition ’92, Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues (including OCS and AGA versions), Alien Breed: Tower Assault (Amiga 1200 and CD32 versions), Alien Breed 3D (featuring Demo 1 and 2), and Alien Breed 3D II: The Killing Grounds.

This collection offers modern gamers a taste of the past with upgraded visuals and gameplay improvements. The official description teases players need to “Infiltrate the station, restore power and systems, uncover the final archive of redacted documents, engage in first-person combat firefights, and reveal classified secrets.”

The latest version will include advanced hardware support such as full twin-stick controls for both 2D and 3D titles, along with classic Mouse and Keyboard support for 3D games. Enhanced frame rates and the option to choose between a traditional 4:3 aspect ratio or the modern 16:9 widescreen format will also be available, providing either a retro or a current-day experience.

New online features will be part of the update, including Horde Mode and Rush Mode, playable solo or with friends. Additionally, The Vault offers behind-the-scenes content like concept art and details on the original retail releases.

What is Alien Breed’s history on PlayStation?

When the Alien Breed series launched in 1991 by Team17, it was not initially available on PlayStation consoles. The first six games didn’t reach PlayStation until 2010.

The franchise’s revival on PlayStation began with Alien Breed: Evolution, also known as Alien Breed: Impact, which arrived on PlayStation 3. This marked the franchise’s debut on Sony’s gaming hardware. The same year, Alien Breed 2: Assault was released on PS3 via the PlayStation Network, followed by Alien Breed 3: Descent in 2011.

The upcoming Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection is scheduled for release on September 24, 2026, on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox.
