Digital Phablet – Norwegian footballer and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland recently came under criticism after a resurfaced video showed him personally reaching out to a former Israeli hostage from the events of October 7, 2023.
The viral clip was shared as an Instagram story by the former hostage himself, Omer Shem Tov. It quickly spread across X (formerly Twitter), drawing the attention of pro-Palestine activists who expressed their “disappointment” with Haaland’s actions.

The video, embedded from Instagram, captured Haaland in a moment of apparent communication with the individual. Social media users speculated about the context, with some criticizing Haaland’s actions and others defending him.
A user on X commented, “Very disappointing and I’m truly hurt that this has happened and he did this, but it looks like Haaland’s friend (?) called up this Israeli and said, ‘Hey Haaland, can you say hi to my friend? He’s a huge fan.’ No defending the broader situation, though — DNI (Do Not Interact).”
In contrast, another supporter argued, “It’s crazy that an Israeli is spreading this smear campaign and that Haaland is getting such harsh abuse from a 27-second clip where he just says hello. Clearly, the call was set up by the other person for Haaland to say hi to the fan.”
The video gained significant attention after the pro-Israel account “Kosher” shared it, praising Haaland with the comment, “Nice from Haaland. My respect for him has definitely increased.”
