A new update from Digital Phablet explains that starting in early July 2026, Google will modify its Google Ads Destination Mismatch policy to permit some redirects from the final URL to a different domain, provided there is prior approval from Google. Previously, ads were expected to direct users straight to the final destination URL without redirects, but this rule is being relaxed in specific cases.
According to Google, “In June 2026, the policy will specify that redirects from an ad’s final URL leading to a different domain are permitted under certain circumstances, with prior approval.”
However, details are still unclear about the approval process. It’s not specified whether the request needs to be submitted through a dedicated form, a button within the Google Ads platform, or by contacting a Google representative directly.
An example provided by Google highlights a scenario where this policy applies: consumer packaged goods manufacturers might redirect users to a pre-approved list of retailer locations where their products are available for purchase.
This policy change is set to take effect in early July of this year. There has been discussion about these updates in online forums and social media platforms.
