US Vice President JD Vance stated Monday that “a crazy person” attempted to break into his Ohio residence by pounding on the windows. He confirmed he and his family were not at the house during the incident. An unnamed U.S. law enforcement official told CNN earlier that authorities were investigating the breach and had detained one individual.

Vance posted on X, expressing gratitude to the Secret Service and Cincinnati police for their quick response, and added, “As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. We weren’t even home since we had already returned to D.C.” He also requested that media avoid publishing images showing the damage to his house.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, said a man was arrested overnight after the attack. “A male suspect was taken into custody by Cincinnati police after being detained by Secret Service agents for causing property damage, including breaking windows at a private residence associated with the Vice President,” he explained in a statement.

The man was detained just past midnight. Guglielmi added that the Secret Service is working with Cincinnati police and the U.S. Attorney’s Office as prosecutors review the case.

This incident highlights a pattern of political violence targeting U.S. officials. Last June, a senior Democratic lawmaker from Minnesota and her husband were shot in what authorities described as a politically motivated murder.

In April, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s home was set on fire while he and his family were sleeping inside. This act bears similarities to the October 2022 assault on Nancy Pelosi’s home in San Francisco, where an intruder struck her husband with a hammer.
