A highly acclaimed PlayStation 5 shooter is getting a free update that introduces new content, enhanced graphics, and more. This first-person open-world horror game was originally released nearly two years ago.
GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to receive Update 2.0, which includes fresh content and an engaging story expansion.
The free Update 2.0 will bring visual improvements for PlayStation 5 players, including better lighting and revamped landscapes. It will also introduce Custom Rules, allowing players to adjust the difficulty settings to suit their playstyle.
Additionally, three new binocular types will be added to help players scout the Zone, locate targets, and develop strategies. Each binocular offers unique technology and functionality, and can be found around the Zone or bought from traders. The update will also add new weapons such as the Arev assault rifle, the GP3A and SKP designated marksman rifles, and the Fora-230 submachine gun.
A significant new story expansion, titled Cost of Hope, will release alongside Update 2.0. This DLC expands the Zone for further exploration and rewards, intensifying the ongoing conflict between the factions Duty and Freedom. Players will have the chance to explore new areas like the Iron Forest, CNPP, and Spatial Bubble, while immersing themselves in the iconic atmosphere of the Zone.
To mark the launch of Cost of Hope, a special website has been created where players can vote for their preferred faction—Duty or Freedom—and participate in a quick quiz for a chance to win exclusive S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-themed prizes.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl Update 2.0 will be available on PlayStation 5 starting August 20, 2026. The Cost of Hope DLC can be purchased as part of the Ultimate Edition or separately for $29.99.
