How to Unlock All Knives and Their Functions in Mafia: The Old Country

In Mafia: The Old Country, the setting is early 20th-century Sicily. Unlike many movies that show gangsters wielding Tommy guns, this game focuses on a more personal and intense fighting style. Most combat involves knives, making encounters feel closer and more dramatic.

You’ll find a variety of knives, each with unique combat perks. Choosing the right knife can boost your effectiveness in fights, helping Enzo move through the story faster and more aggressively.

    Knife Basics, Explained

Knives are your primary melee weapon during the game. Besides fighting with them, you can also use knives to open chests in the environment; however, this decreases their durability.

There are three types of knives to pick from: Scannaturi, Rasolu, and Stiletto. Each type offers different strengths, weaknesses, and perks that provide additional gameplay effects. All knives are either found or purchased from the weapon locker using Dinari, except for those bought through downloadable content (DLC).

Note: DLC knives become available for use after reaching Chapter 2.

    Scannaturi Knives, Explained

Scannaturi knives are ideal for players who prefer ranged combat, as they can be thrown during stealth sections. There are five options available:

    Knife Name Durability Perks Cost
Viperi Two bars None 200 Dinari
Lupu Three bars “Vital”: heals after stealth takedown 500 Dinari
Ágghiri Three bars “Aerodynamic”: longer range Available from Chapter 13 locker
Tigri Four bars “Honed”: deals more damage Available from Chapter 14 locker
Scannaturi Speciale Four bars “Vital” and “Aerodynamic” Pre-order bonus via Soldato pack

    Rasolu Knives, Explained

Rasolu knives enable you to perform silent takedowns during combat. There are five choices:

    Knife Name Durability Perks Cost
Draguni Three bars None 200 Dinari
Paladinu Three bars “Honed”: increased damage 500 Dinari
Guerreri Four bars “Vital”: heal after stealth takedown 1,200 Dinari
Cavaleriu Four bars “Light-Fingered”: automatic looting during combat takedown From Chapter 12 locker
Rasolu Speciale Five bars “Light-Fingered” and “Vital” Linking your 2K account grants access

    Stiletto Knives, Explained

Stiletto knives are known for their high durability. There are six options:

    Knife Name Durability Perks Cost
Colossu Four bars None 200 Dinari
Imperituri Four bars “Resourceful”: more looting of locked boxes 500 Dinari
Eternu Five bars “Vital” for healing after stealth takedown 800 Dinari

Forzuni Six bars “Light-Fingered”: auto looting in combat From Chapter 5 locker

Knives are essential tools that can be upgraded and chosen based on your preferred combat style, whether stealth, ranged, or aggressive. Different pairs of perks allow for strategic gameplay, making the right weapon choice crucial as you progress through the game.

How Many Chapters Are in Mafia: The Old Country? Completing and Solving Guide

Much discussion has surrounded Mafia: The Old Country since its announcement. The developers at Hangar 13 were clear that this game would be smaller and more focused than previous entries. This led many to wonder how much gameplay time the game would offer.

Those worried that The Old Country would be brief were wrong. The game includes various collectibles to find if you want to spend extra time in Sicily beyond your first playthrough. Here’s how long it takes to complete Enzo’s story.

How Long Does It Take To Complete?

Many fans initially thought that the game, launched at a lower price and without an open-world format, would be short. However, this isn’t true. According to HowLongToBeat, finishing the credits typically takes about 12 hours.

For comparison, this duration matches the length of the first two Mafia games. Mafia 3, however, took players around 20 hours to complete.

How Many Chapters Does It Have?

The game features 14 standard chapters, beginning with a prologue that introduces the main character, Enzo. On average, players can expect to complete one chapter per hour of gameplay. This structure gives the game a feel similar to a mini-series.

How Long Does It Take To 100 Percent?

Completing all optional content and collecting everything is straightforward, as Mafia’s experience is mostly linear. Achieving 100% completion usually takes over 20 hours, allowing players to enjoy even more of Mafia’s depiction of 20th-century Sicily.

In Defense of Mafia: The Old Country (Review)

Digital Phablet – Upon the release of 2K and Hangar 13’s Mafia: The Old Country, social media was flooded with opinions about the game. Some fans expressed concerns regarding the future direction of this long-standing franchise.

While Mafia: The Old Country hasn’t faced the same level of criticism as Mafia III— which was panned for its storyline, launch bugs, and repetitive gameplay—several issues have been brought up.

First, the game’s $50 price tag was contentious for many, given its relatively short campaign length of about 12-15 hours. Several players felt the value didn’t match the price based on hours of gameplay.

Others anticipated an open-world experience with side missions and extensive content, similar to Mafia III. Instead, what they received was a story-focused, linear adventure with limited side activities.

Some users encountered crashes and performance glitches; during our testing on PC, the game crashed twice. However, Hangar 13 did a remarkable job recreating Sicily in Italy during the early 1900s. Although the visuals are impressive, with vibrant colors and compelling lighting, the exploration options are minimal—but that’s perfectly fine. Why? Because not every game needs to be a 100-hour open-world epic.

    Mafia: The Old Country

In terms of gameplay and exploration, Mafia: The Old Country may fall short, but it compensates with an engaging story, top-notch voice acting, memorable characters, and stunning graphics.

The casting and voice talent greatly enhanced the game, which narrates the story of Enzo—a young man working in a mine—who ventures into the realm of the Italian mafia after discovering the Don Torrisi family and climbing his way up the ranks.

While the core gameplay doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it remains enjoyable, particularly during stealth segments. Players have the option to complete levels undetected if they prefer.

Driving cars and horses across Sicily also feels fantastic, especially with the faster vehicles they gradually unlock.

    Mafia: The Old Country

However, gunplay requires some refinement, particularly the crosshair mechanics. With certain weapons, the crosshair widens excessively during aiming, which can be frustrating at times.

In an era of open-world fatigue and AAA titles often priced at $80, Mafia: The Old Country and titles like our Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, offer a refreshing change in 2025.

Whether the $50 price tag is justified depends on individual expectations. The game can often be purchased later during sales or included in services like Game Pass or PlayStation Plus.

The final judgment weighs heavily on personal preference—some will find the compelling narrative and craftsmanship worth the investment, despite the gameplay limitations.
