While artificial intelligence has significantly boosted the efficiency of information access, it cannot replace genuine human interaction, according to the chairman of a leading Chinese internet company, marking the 10th anniversary of his livestreaming educational series.
He mentioned that he leverages AI to assist in gathering information but has no intention of developing an AI avatar to host livestreams on his behalf. Large language models have greatly improved the process of retrieving information and are already impacting areas such as scientific research, mathematics, and physics, he noted.
However, he emphasized that efficiency isn’t everything. As AI-generated content becomes more prevalent, the importance of original, high-quality material grows because AI systems rely heavily on such content for training. He pointed out that the main reason people read news, literature, or other creative works isn’t solely to increase knowledge but also driven by curiosity and the desire for emotional connection. People seek to understand different perspectives, and authentic expressions rooted in human emotion are still difficult for language models to replicate.
He referenced films like “The Odyssey” and the acclaimed “Dear You” to illustrate that the true value of these works lies not in technological aspects but in authentic human creativity, emotional depth, and storytelling. Despite rapid advancements in AI, he believes Hollywood will continue to produce compelling stories, prestigious awards will still honor exceptional films, and literary accolades like the Nobel Prize will continue to recognize human authors.
Since starting his livestreaming English courses in 2016, he has conducted over 2,000 sessions and also hosts physics livestreams. While educational content remains an element of the company’s broader media strategy, his primary focus will continue to be on managing the company’s products and operations in Beijing.
