One of the most highly anticipated sequels in a legendary adventure franchise recently received an update on its release timeframe. Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next installment starring Lara Croft, was previously pushed back to 2028. However, it will be released after Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is slated for launch in 2027.
A new financial report from Embracer Group confirms that Tomb Raider: Catalyst will launch sometime before March 2028. The report indicates that Catalyst is among the titles expected to debut during the fiscal year 2027/28, setting the latest possible release date at March 31, 2028, provided there are no additional delays.
In an interview, Jeff Gattis, head of Amazon Game Studios, revealed that both projects had experienced delays beyond their original release schedules. He also shared plans to heavily invest in Luna, Amazon’s cloud gaming service. The delays were intended to give development teams more time for polishing the games and to further develop Luna’s platform before their launches.
“Our goal is to establish a strong identity for Luna, building a content lineup that resonates with players—so much so that people think, ‘That’s the place to find Tomb Raider, Bond, and other big titles,’” Gattis explained.
Amazon always intended to release both titles in successive years, but the postponement of Legacy of Atlantis might relate to the packed gaming release schedule in 2026. The latter half of that year features significant game launches, including Grand Theft Auto VI in November. Many AAA titles are either shifting out of 2026 or moving into earlier months to avoid clashing with GTA VI.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be available on PlayStation 5 on February 12, 2027. As of now, no official release date has been announced for Tomb Raider: Catalyst.
