Horizon 3 PlayStation Exclusive Receives Disappointing Patch

People eager for the next installment in the PlayStation-exclusive Horizon series will likely be disappointed by the latest report from Bloomberg. According to their sources, Horizon 3 is still far from release and is currently only being developed by a small team.

It appears that Horizon 3 won’t be available as a physical disc, based on new information. Insider journalist Jason Schreier provided additional insights into Sony’s struggles with live service games, highlighting the ongoing turmoil at Guerrilla Games—especially concerning Horizon Hunters Gathering. After Horizon Forbidden West, most Guerrilla staff shifted focus to a multiplayer project, but that game has failed to make a strong impression. Now, it’s undergoing a major overhaul. While not officially canceled, the team has been given until December to demonstrate significant progress to executives.

As part of this revision, Horizon Hunters Gathering is shedding its live service features in favor of a more traditional co-op multiplayer mode paired with a story campaign. This shift indicates a scaled-back scope for the project.

If Bloomberg’s report is accurate, we might not see Horizon 3 for quite some time, potentially not until the PlayStation 6 arrives. Schreier’s update also suggests that the next mainline Horizon game probably won’t come out on disc.
