GTA 6 Launches Without First-Person Mode, Rockstar Confirms

While GTA 6 is shaping up to be Rockstar’s most ambitious project yet, one highly requested feature from previous games will not be included. Rockstar confirmed today that GTA 6 will not feature a dedicated first-person mode.

This news was announced by an influencer who attended a GTA 6 preview at Rockstar North. During the event, the development lead and co-studio head explained that the game is primarily designed around a third-person perspective.

This decision is evident as there was no footage showcasing a first-person view in the latest GTA 6 Netflix Extended Look. Notably, GTA 5 and GTA Online’s first-person mode became a major feature when they launched on consoles and PC.

In GTA 6, however, the first-person function is limited. Players can still switch to first-person when aiming with certain weapons, but there is no full-game dedicated first-person mode.

The move toward a third-person focus is driven by the game’s detailed character animations and interactions. The Netflix footage highlights police encounters, robberies, and exploration scenes that are best experienced from a third-person vantage point.

This doesn’t mean Rockstar is sacrificing immersion. The game’s phone system, vehicle interiors, character relationships, and police pursuits are all crafted to make the world feel more alive from a third-person view.
