Black Myth: Wukong was a major success in 2024, leaving fans eager for Game Science’s next project. After nearly two years, the Chinese game developer has finally unveiled Black Myth: Zhong Kui in its full form. Like the first game on PS5, this upcoming sequel draws inspiration from Chinese mythology.
Game Science released a 15-minute gameplay trailer that introduces the new protagonist and showcases various environments. The footage comes from a work-in-progress version running in a 21:9 aspect ratio. The game was initially announced during last year’s Opening Night Live at Gamescom. Players will take on the role of Zhong Kui, a Chinese deity who travels between Earth and the Underworld to battle demons.

### What Game Science Shared About Black Myth: Zhong Kui’s Direction
The trailer features no dialogue but shows exciting gameplay with fresh combat mechanics. Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game demonstrates stunning visuals for a PS5 title, with highly realistic environments and character designs. During combat, Zhong Kui dodges and parries with his sword, and also employs elemental attacks. One scene shows him tossing a bomb that ignites the forest in flames, which he then absorbs into his sword.
Game Science has stated that Zhong Kui, like Wukong, will be a single-player action RPG. On the official website’s FAQ, the developers mentioned they’re exploring unique gameplay tailored to the new hero, utilizing cutting-edge technology and innovative storytelling approaches. However, fans shouldn’t expect an imminent release, as Game Science confirmed it’s still early in development.
Black Myth: Wukong received glowing reviews and was a commercial hit, selling over 20 million copies within its first month. The studio continued supporting it post-launch with updates, new modes, and features.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is currently in development for PC and gaming consoles.
