Naughty Dog’s upcoming PS5 title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, recently hit a significant milestone. This game marks Naughty Dog’s first new intellectual property in 13 years, signaling a bold shift for the PlayStation Studios developer. Development has been underway since 2020, following the launch of The Last of Us Part II.
In a recent social media post, Naughty Dog announced that the cinematic motion capture for the game has wrapped up. The company shared, “That’s a wrap on the highly ambitious Intergalactic cinematic shoot! The cast was incredible! Can’t wait to share their amazing work when the time is right!” The announcement was accompanied by an image of Tati Gabrielle on set, holding a prop blaster.
A tweet from Naughty Dog also read, “See you, space cowboy… That’s a wrap on the ambitious Intergalactic cinematic shoot! The cast nailed it! Looking forward to revealing their fantastic work soon!” The tweet was dated August 31, 2026, and included a photo from the shoot.
What we know so far about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is quite exciting. The game was first unveiled at The Game Awards in 2025. It’s a third-person action-adventure game with sci-fi elements. Players will take on the role of bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, portrayed by Gabrielle, who is stranded on the mysterious planet Sempiria.
The project entered development in 2020, during a period when most of Naughty Dog was working on the now-canceled multiplayer component of The Last of Us. Neil Druckmann, the creative director of The Last of Us, is directing the new game, alongside game directors Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau. In addition to Gabrielle, voice talents include Halley Gross, Kumail Nanjiani, Tony Dalton, Ashley Scott, and Stephen A. Chang. The game also features Robin Atkin Downes, Merle Dandridge, and Troy Baker.
Fans are expecting a new trailer or gameplay footage to be showcased during the upcoming September State of Play event. Previous reports suggest the game is targeting a release around mid-2027.
Currently, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is still in development exclusively for PlayStation 5, with no official release date announced.
