Fortnite 42.10 Patch Notes: Fresh Sprites, OG Season X, and More

Early patch notes for Fortnite update 42.10 have been released, revealing several exciting changes. Three new Sprites are being added, along with updated Match Overrides, Loot Hacks, and a nostalgic return to Fortnite Season X. Here’s what players need to know about the early details for Chapter 7 Season 4.

Fortnite’s maintenance for Chapter 7 Season 4 update 42.10 will start at 4 a.m. Eastern Time on September 3, 2026, and is expected to conclude by 6 a.m. ET. Matchmaking servers will be offline 30 minutes prior to the start, but once the servers are back up, players can jump back into the game.

The September 3 update brings several new features. Notably, two new Match Overrides—Big Heads and Prop Hunt—will be introduced. Big Heads was featured in this year’s April Fool’s event, giving characters oversized heads. Shoulder Riding, a mechanic that allowed players to ride on teammates’ shoulders, may also make a comeback this week.

The Prop Hunt override transforms players into props, making them harder to spot in Battle Royale matches, adding a fun twist. If you earn a 1-Up Token, even if you’re found while disguised, chances are in your favor to turn the tide.

In addition to the overrides, three new Sprites—X-Ray Sprite, Onigiri Sprite, and Unknown Sprite—are entering the game. The X-Ray Sprite, winner from the “Design a Sprite” contest, can reveal opponents through walls temporarily. The Onigiri Sprite empowers consumables to give extra health, replacing the Bullet Sprite from earlier updates. The Unknown Sprite remains a mystery for now.

The Sprite Garden is now live, showcasing all collected sprites since Chapter 7 Season 3. Epic Games continues to enhance this feature with additional updates and quality-of-life improvements.

Six new Loot Hacks are also arriving this week, offering unique ways to alter your loot during matches. These hacks include items like Rocket Ram, Golden Banana, Tracking Visor, Holo Twister Assault Rifle, Deadeye Assault Rifle, and Wrecker Revolver. They replace current Loot Hacks, providing alternatives for players tired of Sonic Power Sneakers. For example, Rocket Ram allows you to smash through structures with ease, similar to the God Mode Llama.

Fortnite OG Season X will also return on September 3, following the OG Final Showdown Live Event. The map has been updated with new points of interest like Tilted Town, Starry Suburbs, and The Meteor. Tilted Town remains a popular drop zone, while The Meteor offers a fun spot to hang out. The Pandora Rift Zone from Borderlands will make an appearance, possibly encouraging players to don the Psycho Bandit Fortnite skin for immersive gameplay. More Borderlands content may be on the horizon.

The loot pool has been adjusted again, featuring new weapons and items for Season X. Notable additions include Junk Rift, Automatic Sniper Rifle, Glitched Forageable, B.R.U.T.E., SR Tactical Submachine Gun, Shield Bubble, Zapper Trap, and Spicy Taco Forageable. The B.R.U.T.E. and Automatic Sniper Rifle are expected to dominate the meta, outclassing current weapons significantly.

A new OG Battle Pass offers three remixed skins: X-Lord, Ultima Knight, and Catalyst, now with updated designs. The X-Lord variant has been reimagined as a female character, adding diversity without impacting the storyline. The Battle Pass also features Return of Victory Royale’s antagonist, Geno.

Additionally, a LEGO Fortnite crossover is taking shape, with Batman villains causing chaos in the LEGO universe. Players can visit Gotham City-themed locations, complete missions, and unlock gadgets like Batglider, Bat Grapnel, and Bat-Signal. The collaboration will unfold gradually until October 15, 2026, with new content released weekly. Expect the addition of vehicles like The Batmobile and The Bat, along with some Fortnitemares surprises later this year.

Overall, the upcoming Fortnite update promises a mix of nostalgic content, new gameplay mechanics, and fresh skins. Stay tuned for further updates on the official release day and check out the Fortnite roadmap for more details.
