Facebook and Instagram faced outages in Pakistan and several other countries on Sunday, preventing users from accessing their accounts and leading to widespread frustration, according to an outage-monitoring website.
Many users reported encountering login issues on Meta’s platforms through both mobile apps and web browsers. Several received error messages indicating their accounts were temporarily unavailable due to site problems, with suggestions to try again later.
Downdetector, a site tracking service disruptions, showed a spike in Facebook-related searches around 1 p.m. Pakistan time, reflecting a surge in user complaints. Numerous affected users also took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences and report issues with Facebook’s services.
Meta had not released an official statement regarding the outage at the time of this report. The cause of the technical failure remains unknown, and there is no confirmed timeline for service restoration.
In the U.S., Downdetector recorded 4,808 reports of Facebook issues by approximately 7:46 a.m. GMT, with about 63% of users reporting problems accessing the site. Meanwhile, 2,829 reports from Instagram users in the U.S. indicated problems with the app around 8:18 a.m. GMT on Sunday.
Similarly, checks conducted by Reuters found that access to Facebook and Instagram was sporadic in Singapore. Meta did not respond immediately to an email request for comment.
