Digital Phablet – Pro-Israel advocates affiliated with StopAntisemitsm criticized American fashion brand Alo for featuring Palestinian-American model Bella Hadid in its latest campaign.
Pro-Israel groups have repeatedly labeled Bella Hadid as “Anti-Israel” due to her outspoken support for Palestine and her criticism of the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, which have resulted in over 73,000 Palestinians killed and more than 174,000 injured since October 2023. Many also remain unaccounted for under the rubble.
According to Al Jazeera, neither Bella Hadid nor Alo has issued a response to the mounting criticism.
According to Elle, Bella is now the face of Alo’s “pre-fall campaign,” which features pieces like the Airlift Rebel Bra and High-Waist 7/8 Rebel Leggings. Shot in Los Angeles, the brand announced on Instagram with a post of Bella, stating, “The deeper your roots, the higher you rise.”
The campaign received enthusiastic support from pro-Palestine activists who took to social media, expressing their intention to support the brand for showcasing Bella:
“I’ll be buying for the first time because I love Bella Hadid.”
“This seems like a company I want to stand behind!”
“Oh, a brand I can wear proudly… I LOVE IT!!!”
Bella Hadid frequently uses her social platforms to advocate for Palestinian rights, calling for humanitarian aid and sharing her cultural heritage. She’s been vocal about her Palestinian roots, sharing multiple posts on Instagram. Two years ago, she posted a Palestinian Keffiyeh-inspired dress and wrote, “Palestine on my mind, in my blood, and in my heart. Always… While I still have to go to work, even amidst this horror, wearing our culture makes me a proud Palestinian. I want the world to continue seeing Palestine, wherever we go.”
She also urged her followers to educate themselves about the situation in Gaza, encouraging them to watch her stories and seek out accounts of Palestinians on the ground, emphasizing the ongoing occupation and genocide happening right now, and requesting viewers to stay aware and informed.
