The funeral of the father of Egyptian festival singer Hamo Bika has become a trending topic on social media after photos and videos from the event went viral online.

Many viewers were taken aback by the unconventional setup of the funeral venue. It featured a lengthy red carpet, regal-style chairs, grand chandeliers, and decorations that some commented looked more suited for a prominent celebration than a traditional funeral.

The debate grew fiercer when details about the scope of the preparations and their alleged expenses surfaced.

Yassin El-Helily, owner of El-Helily Events and the event organizer, explained that the preparations were completed within just a few hours despite the venue’s large size.

He mentioned that operations started around 6 a.m. and wrapped up by approximately 2 p.m., utilizing nearly 15 large trucks to transport all necessary equipment.

The site spanned roughly 1,400 square meters, including 800 royal chairs and nearly 600 chandeliers.

One notable feature was the extensive use of a red carpet that extended across the entire venue. The organizer explained that this choice was made because many distinguished guests and public figures were expected to attend. Traditional funeral carpets were deemed unsuitable for the aesthetic they aimed to achieve, so a red carpet was selected instead.

The reported expenses for the funeral also drew considerable attention. El-Helily revealed that the arrangements cost approximately one million Egyptian pounds, sparking widespread discussion online.

Photos and videos from the event showed the elaborate setup, which included an area covering around 1,400 square meters, 800 regal chairs, and almost 600 chandeliers, highlighting the scale of the arrangements.

Despite the controversy surrounding the extravagance, Hamo Bika was said to have been pleased with the overall outcome. He reportedly expressed his satisfaction after witnessing the final preparations, telling the organizer, “You honored me.”

Social media reactions to the funeral were mixed, with some praising the effort to honor his father and others questioning whether such splendor was appropriate for a somber occasion. Nonetheless, the event captured wide attention and became one of the most discussed entertainment stories recently in Egypt.
