Top Beginner-Friendly Heroes in Warriors: Abyss

Warriors: Abyss is an action-packed roguelike that captures the essence of games like Hades and Vampire Survivors. It features thrilling boss battles, rewarding gameplay, and a surprisingly intricate system that will keep you engaged as you explore various Heroes. With a whopping 100 Heroes to choose from, there’s plenty to keep you entertained.

If the idea of 100 Heroes feels overwhelming, don’t worry! Many characters are beginner-friendly, making it easy to jump in and start learning. These characters will help you master the basics of combat while providing enough variety for different builds, encouraging experimentation as you improve your skills.

The Best Beginner Heroes to Try

When selecting the best beginner-friendly Heroes in Warriors: Abyss, it’s essential to consider that some characters come with unique actions and complex moves that might overwhelm new players, especially during intense moments of battle.

For instance, certain Heroes deal more damage after performing a Charge Attack by rotating the analog stick. While this is an exciting mechanic, it might not be suitable for those new to this genre, especially when facing waves of foes in an arena setting.

Additionally, some Heroes require Karma Embers to be accessed via the Hall of Bonded Souls. Therefore, this guide will be divided into two sections: one covering Heroes available at the start and another highlighting the beginner-friendly options you should focus on unlocking first!

All Heroes can become formidable in the late game, though some may require adherence to specific builds, which can be more challenging if luck is not on your side. Still, if you find a Hero that resonates with you, don’t hesitate to stick with them!

    Top Beginner-Friendly Starter Heroes

Starter Heroes in Warriors: Abyss are fantastic for easing you into the game. They not only allow you to gather Karma Embers and unlock additional Heroes but also teach you essential systems and mechanics.

Just because they are labeled as Starter Heroes doesn’t mean they lack strength. Many of them can stand as powerhouses in late-game scenarios, so if you enjoy a specific character, you’re free to keep using them throughout your journey.

    Kunoichi

Kunoichi stands out as one of the best choices for beginners, capable of delivering significant damage and primarily relying on Speed to succeed. Additional stats will only enhance her abilities.

Working alongside Allied Heroes who have Speed Emblems will be beneficial, allowing her to branch into Skill and elemental Emblems like Flame or Slay for increased damage. The more Speed she accumulates, the higher her Attack will rise, making her especially potent in the early zones.

    Cao Cao

Cao Cao operates a bit differently, as he thrives when paired with Allied Heroes who carry the Wei Emblem, like Xiahou Dun and Yue Jin. Each Allied Hero with this Emblem boosts his Attack by 5%, which is a nice perk.

Although he excels with Wisdom, Charm, and Ice Emblems, they aren’t strictly necessary as long as he has enough Allies sporting Wei Emblems. He’s a solid pick capable of inflicting substantial damage with straightforward combos.

    Xiahou Dun

Xiahou Dun is another excellent beginner Hero, sharing similar traits with Cao Cao, making it important that he has several Wei Emblem Heroes in his Formation for maximum benefit.

His primary focus will be Vigor and Slay Emblems, allowing for impressive damage output if you can get started on them early. Combining these with Attack boosts from Allied Heroes can create a powerful force.

    Kenshin Uesugi

Kenshin Uesugi shines by enhancing the Summoning Skills of his Allies, granting them an extra 20% Attack and amplifying his own Vigor Emblems by 50%.

Focusing on Vigor, Skill, and Bolt Emblems will allow you to execute more Attack Strings and utilize all six Allied Heroes in your Formation. If you want to be hands-on with your gameplay, Kenshin is a fantastic choice.

    Guan Yu

Rounding out our top-tier Starter Heroes is Guan Yu, who possesses high Defense, making him tough to eliminate with an optimal build. For every Allied Hero equipped with the Brave General Emblem, he gains 5% additional Attack, which can ramp up tremendously.

Emphasizing Vigor, Strength, and Flame Emblems will enhance Guan Yu’s combat capabilities. While he may lack the speed of other Heroes, his potential makes him incredibly fun to play and nearly unstoppable under the right circumstances.

    Best Unlockable Beginner-Friendly Heroes

Once you’re familiar with some Starter Heroes, you’ll want to unlock more through Karma Embers. Pay attention to synergies and aim for Heroes with similar unique Emblems to enhance your team composition.

Here are some of the best Heroes for beginners that you can unlock with Karma Embers, offering engaging Attack Strings and decent build variety while remaining easy to use.

    Nene

Nene is akin to Kunoichi in playstyle, focusing on building Speed Emblems quickly, while also passively developing Defense through Allies with the Toyotomi Emblem.

At only 300 Karma Embers, she’s a budget-friendly option for beginners. Speed and Bolt should be her primary focus, but she can perform well with other Element Emblems, provided she secures her Speed first.

    No

No brings unique and dynamic gameplay that feels more involved than other Heroes. Her Hero Trait allows her to charge her Musou Gauge by 10% for every Hero with an Oda Emblem in your team composition, which can be hugely advantageous.

With a focus on Charm and Slay Emblems, No can mix in Speed and Skill Emblems for added versatility. Once her ideal build is established, she emerges as one of the strongest picks, although she does require a more substantial investment of 1000 Karma Embers.

    Yue Jin

For those in search of a hyper-aggressive Hero, Yue Jin is a top pick, gaining 10% more Attack Speed for 15 seconds after every 1000th hit. Combining Skill and Speed Emblems with any Element-based Emblems can significantly ramp up his damage output.

He’s only priced at 500 Karma Embers, making him one of the most enticing early options available.

    Renmaru Mori

Renmaru Mori offers an enjoyable and straightforward playstyle. Her true potential shines when combined with Nobunaga Oda in your Formation, which isn’t possible until later stages, but she’s still formidable regardless.

She has an Ice Emblem that provides flexibility in pairing. A combination of Skill and Speed is recommended to maximize her utility, and at just 100 Karma Embers, she’s an excellent choice for newcomers.

    Zhou Tai

Finally, Zhou Tai utilizes the Slay Emblem to generate one-hit kills, temporarily enhancing his Speed for a burst of aggression.

He can focus on both Skill and Slay Emblems along with one additional emblem, such as Vigor, making him a very balanced character. With the ability to rack up one-hit kills as you advance your Slay Emblem, he makes for an ideal pick at just 500 Karma Embers.

Overall, no matter your choice of Hero, Warriors: Abyss offers a diverse and rewarding experience that can cater to both new and experienced players.

  • Guide to Acquiring Distinctive Weapons in Warriors: Abyss

Guide to Acquiring Distinctive Weapons in Warriors: Abyss

Warriors: Abyss unexpectedly launched on all platforms soon after the latest State of Play, marking it as one of the year’s first surprise releases. If you enjoy roguelikes, this game is a must-try, combining elements from titles like Hades and Vampire Survivors for an exhilarating gameplay experience.

With an impressive roster of 100 Heroes to choose from—yes, you heard correctly—there are countless build options and upgrades waiting for you as you venture further into the game’s depths. One of the standout upgrades is Unique Weapons, which help your favorite Hero reach their full potential!

    What Are Unique Weapons?

Before diving into how to get Unique Weapons in Warriors: Abyss, it’s important to understand what they are and why they are essential for maximizing your Heroes’ capabilities. Each Hero in the game has access to a Unique Weapon that provides special bonuses when acquired, making them ideal for creating targeted builds.

For instance, Wang Yi’s Unique Weapon is called Illusion Piercer and gives her a 50% increase in Attack when used with Freeze. This means you’ll want to focus on getting Freeze Emblems to make the most of this Unique Weapon. Additionally, destroying enemy projectiles increases her Musou Gauge by 1%, which is a nice perk.

While Wang Yi can still use Freeze builds without the Illusion Piercer, her effectiveness is considerably lower; she would only be able to utilize her Bewitching Flower of Vengeance, which charges her Assemble Gauge when she freezes enemies. Although that’s powerful, combining that with a 50% Attack boost turns her into a formidable force. Therefore, acquiring Unique Weapons should be a top priority for your preferred Heroes!

    How to Get Unique Weapons

The primary method for obtaining Unique Weapons in Warriors: Abyss is through Treasure Chests during your many attempts to conquer the game’s challenges. These chests only appear when you complete Missions from Mission Portals, which are easily recognizable by their Treasure Chest icon and a red message saying, ‘A Mission has appeared!’

When you enter a Mission Portal, you’ll need to defeat a specific number of enemies, but instead of presenting you with more Portals afterward, Enma will appear with your Mission details. These Missions can vary in difficulty, ranging from eliminating 100 foes within 45 seconds to taking down designated targets and more. Some are considerably easier than others, so stay sharp.

Upon successfully completing the Mission, a Treasure Chest will appear next to the Crystal Sapling, giving you the opportunity to claim whatever treasures it contains. Unfortunately, the contents are always a mystery; you might find a Unique Weapon, an Emblem, Karma Embers, or some Juicy Meat—it’s all up to luck. You could even receive Unique Weapons for Heroes you haven’t unlocked yet, which just adds to the frustration!

    Buying Unique Weapons

An overview of No in Warriors: Abyss, highlighting her Unique Weapon available for purchase at 50,000 Karma Embers.

If you prefer not to leave your fate to chance, you can still acquire Unique Weapons in Warriors: Abyss. The good news is, you can buy them, but there’s a drawback. If you want a Unique Weapon outside of the Treasure Chest loot, you’ll need to spend 50,000 Karma Embers.

Yes, you read that right—getting a Unique Weapon for a single Hero costs a hefty amount of 50,000 Karma Embers. This is quite a bit to spend, especially when you can use those resources to unlock more Heroes, which is especially crucial early in the game. It’s best to hold off on purchasing Unique Weapons until you’ve unlocked everything in the Hall of Bonded Souls.

If you’re not aware, acquiring a new Hero gives permanent stat boosts for every Hero in the game, which significantly eases your future runs. Thus, saving your Karma Embers for just one Unique Weapon isn’t advisable, regardless of how tempting those bonuses may be. Once you’ve unlocked everything in the upgrade tree and finished the game, you can definitely aim for Unique Weapons!

As you progress deeper into the game, you’ll eventually amass a lot of Karma Embers. This means you can likely acquire everything needed in the Hall of Bonded Souls faster than you think, allowing you to focus on earning Unique Weapons once you’re consistently defeating the final boss!

  • Unlocking Karma Embers in Warriors: Abyss Made Easy

Unlocking Karma Embers in Warriors: Abyss Made Easy

    Quick Links

    What Is Warriors: Abyss?

Surprising everyone with its sudden launch, Warriors: Abyss delivers a fresh roguelike experience, reminiscent of the popular Hades series and the beloved Vampire Survivors. Its blend of mechanics creates a gameplay experience we didn’t know we needed, and it does not disappoint.

This game features robust systems and gameplay mechanics, providing various ways to approach each run. One standout feature is its impressive roster of 100 characters, catering to diverse playstyles. While players won’t run out of Heroes to choose from, they will encounter their fair share of challenges—this is, after all, a roguelike game.

    What Are Karma Embers?

Before diving into how to gather Karma Embers, let’s first explain their purpose in Warriors: Abyss. Understanding their significance will help you navigate future runs more smoothly, letting you breeze through early levels and face tougher bosses with confidence.

As you collect Karma Embers, you can spend them in the Hall of Bonded Souls, accessible from the Main Menu before starting a new run. Within this hall, you can unlock new Heroes, Formations, Enma’s Blessings, and Unique Weapons. These upgrades are crucial for improving your performance in future attempts.

While acquiring new Formations and Enma’s Blessings is useful, nothing beats recruiting a new Hero. Not only do you get to play as them or enlist them as an ally, but they also provide a permanent stat boost to every character once you’ve formed a bond with them. Depending on the Hero, you could gain a permanent increase in Attack, Defense, or Max Health, making Karma Embers incredibly valuable!

    Note:

While we recommend prioritizing Heroes, don’t overlook the value of Formations and Enma’s Blessings, as they can be pivotal for certain builds. Always consider how a Formation will complement your chosen Heroes; one that doesn’t align with your playstyle may prove less beneficial.

    How To Obtain Karma Embers

Now that you know what Karma Embers are used for, let’s explore how to acquire them. You’ll need a substantial amount to fill out your Hall of Bonded Souls, especially if your goal is to collect all Unique Weapons in the game.

Initially, it can feel like a slow grind to gather Embers, but as you advance deeper into the game, opportunities for earning them will present themselves more frequently. There are five primary methods to collect considerable amounts of Karma Embers during your gameplay.

    Bonus State Heroes

The first way to increase your Karma Ember collection is by utilizing Bonus State Heroes. When selecting your Hero, look for a small blue icon on the upper right of certain portraits. These Heroes are currently designated as Bonus State Heroes.

Playing as these Heroes will earn you additional Karma Embers, with the amount varying based on several factors. A successful run with these characters can yield a significant reward. This mechanic encourages players to try out different Heroes they might not usually select, revealing hidden gems among your options.

    Karma Ember Portals

Next on the list are Karma Ember Portals, which may appear after completing a Phase. A small Karma Embers icon next to the Portal will indicate that it will yield a substantial amount of Karma Embers.

By entering the Karma Embers Portal, you will progress to the next Phase, which will then spawn a Chest at the exit containing 500 Embers or more. This makes it one of the most efficient methods for accumulating Karma Embers, though you can’t guarantee that a Portal will appear every run.

    Reaching New Phases

Another way to earn Karma Embers is simply by progressing through the game. Each time you reach a new Phase, you will receive a considerable amount of Karma Embers, which adds up as you delve deeper into the game.

There are 33 Phases total, so advancing through a run will naturally net you more Embers. Initially, your progression may be slow, but as you become more familiar with the game’s mechanics and unlock additional Heroes, you will begin accumulating Embers much more quickly.

    Completing Missions

Similar to the Karma Ember Portals, Mission Portals provide a great opportunity to earn extra Karma Embers. Completing missions offers bonuses beyond what you gather from clearing a Phase. When you encounter a Portal with a Treasure Chest icon, choose it to take on the next Phase.

In this Phase, Enma will assign you a mission—a quick challenge to defeat a set number of enemies within a time limit. Completing this will grant you extra Karma Embers and may reward you further from a Treasure Chest.

    Defeating Bosses

Finally, defeating bosses is a major source of Karma Embers in Warriors: Abyss. Although tackling bosses can be tough, they offer substantial Ember rewards upon defeat. The tougher the boss, the more Embers you gain.

As you unlock more Heroes and improve your skills, you’ll be able to defeat earlier bosses more easily, resulting in a consistent flow of Embers. Once you reach a specific skill level, consider using a Bonus State Hero; reaching the third boss can yield large rewards, even if you don’t defeat them. Beating the boss will significantly boost your Ember count, especially if you clear the game with a Bonus State Hero, putting you in an excellent position for future runs.

  • Boost Your Maximum Health in Warriors: Abyss Now!

Boost Your Maximum Health in Warriors: Abyss Now!

Warriors: Abyss – A Thrilling Roguelike Adventure

Warriors: Abyss made a strong entrance by launching on the same day it was revealed, delivering an unexpectedly engaging roguelike experience. With a remarkable roster of 100 Heroes to pick from, players are bound to find a character that suits their style as they battle through waves of monsters, bringing about intense and exhilarating gameplay.

With various systems and mechanics in place, navigating the game’s functions can be a bit overwhelming. It might be tough to grasp how certain features work, like boosting your Hero’s Maximum Health. However, it’s simpler than it appears, allowing you to power up and fight your way through challenges!

How to Boost Your Maximum Health

In Warriors: Abyss, there are just a few methods available to increase your Max Health, which is crucial for surviving fierce battles or taking down tough bosses. While each Hero has unique Attack and Defense stats, they all share the same base Max Health, regardless of their Dynasty or size. This can be a bit confusing initially, but it becomes clearer once you understand how to raise that health limit during gameplay.

There are three primary ways to increase your Hero’s Maximum Health; two of these methods are temporary and apply only to the current run, while the third method provides a permanent boost. Let’s discuss the two temporary options first before moving on to the permanent enhancement.

    Peach Trees

Peach Trees represent the most frequent opportunity to raise your Maximum Health during a run. Although they may not appear in every session, there’s a chance you’ll find one after completing a Phase, indicated by a Peach icon next to one of the Portals.

By activating that Portal and entering the next area, you might discover a solo Peach Tree in the room. Simply approach the tree and select the "Eat" option for your Hero to consume a Peach, which will improve your Max Health and replenish a portion of your health bar if it’s running low.

Keep in mind that this health increase remains until you either meet an untimely fate or finish the run, at which point it resets. Nonetheless, these Peach Trees can be lifesavers and should be utilized whenever you encounter them!

    Treasure

Another way to enhance your Maximum Health is by collecting Treasures after defeating bosses and opening the giant Chest near the exit. You’ll be given the choice between three randomized Treasures, but can only select one.

Among these treasures, the Ieyasu Tokugawa’s Golden Armor is a standout choice and grants your Hero a 30% increase in Maximum Health for the duration of your run, which unfortunately resets if you die or finish the game. With 24 different Treasures available, the chance of snagging this one isn’t overly high, but if it comes up, it’s wise to grab it unless another option offers a significantly better advantage for your current gameplay.

    Forming Bonds with Heroes

The final method for increasing your Maximum Health in Warriors: Abyss involves Forming Bonds with Heroes, which is particularly advantageous as it provides a lasting benefit across all characters in the game. As you progress, you’ll collect Karma Embers that can be used to unlock Heroes via the Hall of Bonded Souls.

While acquiring new characters is exciting in itself, the real perk comes from the permanent stat enhancements that apply universally to every Hero’s Health, Attack, or Defense. For instance, forming a bond with Xu Zhu grants every Hero a universal +2 Health boost, making this feature essential for future runs.

To discover what a Hero’s Unlock Effect entails, head over to the Hall of Bonded Souls in the main menu and select a locked Hero. Beneath their model, a table will indicate the ‘Unlock Effect,’ highlighting what stats they influence and by how much. This feature lets you prioritize certain Heroes, ultimately making your subsequent gameplay sessions more manageable and enjoyable!

  • Essential Insights We Wish We Had Before Starting Warriors: Abyss

Essential Insights We Wish We Had Before Starting Warriors: Abyss

Just moments after the latest State of Play, Warriors: Abyss became available on all major gaming platforms. This roguelike adventure offers a highly immersive experience that seamlessly blends elements of Hades and Vampire Survivors, creating an exhilarating and well-balanced challenge.

At first glance, Warriors: Abyss may seem overwhelming due to its many systems. But once you get the hang of it, the game provides a surge of excitement, especially when you discover your favorite Hero. Like many games in the genre, you will face defeat frequently, but with some strategic thinking and experience, you can reduce the impact of those unsuccessful attempts!

    Experiment With Different Heroes

As anticipated, you can choose from a wide array of Heroes from various Dynasties, each providing distinct playstyles that help you find the perfect match for your gameplay. Even after you settle on a ‘main’ Hero, we encourage you to explore other characters as you might discover even more that suit your preferences.

Moreover, some Heroes yield more Karma Embers when selected, prompting you to expand your strategies and explore different playstyles. Warriors: Abyss is packed with depth, so trying out multiple characters will deepen your understanding of its mechanics!

    Building Your Strategy is Key

    Lu Lingqi from Warriors: Abyss.

As a roguelike, Warriors: Abyss emphasizes the importance of builds. Your strategy will evolve as you acquire Emblems and Allied Heroes, which allow you to focus on specific stats and even add elemental damage to your attacks.

However, expect to face challenges with the game’s random elements since you won’t always get the build you’re aiming for. You may need to adapt based on the options available to you to achieve victory. For instance, if you seek a build that prioritizes speed and slaying, you might not encounter the necessary Emblems or Allied Heroes, requiring you to shift your focus to alternatives like Flame or Wind.

We recommend sticking to three or four Emblems during a run; trying to take on more can dilute your defenses and overall effectiveness. Accumulating multiple Emblems of the same type will gradually enhance their effects and unlock additional capabilities, so stay focused on your chosen build!

Skill and Speed Emblems Are Highly Effective

Lu Lingqi executing a combo attack in Warriors: Abyss.

Among various Emblems, the Skill and Speed Emblems stand out as the most valuable and should be prioritized in nearly every run unless you’re adopting a tank-oriented approach. Even then, it’s wise to upgrade these stats to enhance your gameplay.

While other Emblems can also be beneficial, we found that boosting Skill and Speed provides significant advantages, enabling you to unleash your character’s full potential while being agile enough to dodge attacks!

    Advantages of the Skill Emblem

The Skill Emblem is essential because it unlocks additional Attack Strings and enhances Summoning Skills for your Hero. If you neglect to upgrade this stat, you’ll limit yourself to using only four Allied Heroes and four Attack Strings in combat, restricting your overall capabilities.

Your Formation can support up to six Allied Heroes, meaning you’ll miss out on utilizing two Summoning Skills if you don’t enhance your Skill Stat. Furthermore, the fifth and sixth Attack Strings are likely your Hero’s most potent moves, making it essential to unlock them!

    Advantages of the Speed Emblem

The Speed Emblem is crucial for almost all Heroes, especially those that are highly aggressive and thrive in close combat situations. Even for tanky or ranged Heroes, upgrading this stat still offers considerable benefits.

Boosting your Speed Stat allows you to become invincible while Evading, ultimately unlocking the option to dodge three times in rapid succession. This will enable you to quickly escape dangerous situations. Additionally, you can enhance your Attack and Defense after Evading, making your actions more powerful!

Unlocking Heroes Makes Future Runs Simpler

Bonding with Naotora Ii in Warriors: Abyss.

Heroes are fundamental in Warriors: Abyss, with a whopping 100 available to unlock! Each Hero serves as either your Primary Hero or an Allied Hero, making it imperative to unlock them using Karma Embers via the Hall of Bonded Souls in the Main Menu.

By forming bonds with these Heroes, you will permanently bolster the Attack, Defense, or Health of all unlocked Heroes, making future attempts easier. You can find out which stat will be influenced by selecting a Hero in the Hall of Bonded Souls menu and checking the info above the ‘Form Bond’ button.

In this section, labeled ‘Unlock Effect’, an icon will reveal which Stat is impacted, with a associated number reflecting the amount. When you establish a Bond with a Hero, the Unlock Effect applies across all your Heroes immediately. As you progress, you’ll unlock even more Heroes, gradually increasing your strength with each run, so stay persistent!

Utilize Hero Synergies for Major Advantages

Also, by unlocking Heroes, your Allied Heroes can receive upgrades once certain conditions are met. Some may require configurations like having five Lightning Emblems, while others may necessitate a specific Allied Hero in your Formation. Occasionally, you might need to meet both criteria.

This directly connects to your build strategy, as being aware of Hero Synergies in the early stages of your run helps you concentrate on specific Emblems that optimize the performance of both you and your Allied Heroes.

Allied Hero Upgrades and Strategic Approaches

For instance, Kai requires Allied Hero Ujiyasu Hojo and ten Lightning Emblems to enhance her Tornado Blade Summoning Skill. Furthermore, collecting five Strength Emblems unlocks her Flower of War Unique Tactic, which grants a 30% Attack buff to all Heroes bearing the Flower of War Emblem.

Don’t overlook the power of these Hero Synergies, as they can genuinely shift the tide of battle in your favor. You can examine all synergies by selecting a character in the Hall of Bonded Souls and checking the Summons tab, where you’ll see their potential contributions and learn how to leverage their Unique Tactics!

    Understanding Health Recovery During Runs

Leveling up in Warriors: Abyss restores some health.

You will soon discover that you don’t have any potions or healing items as you venture through the relentless challenges while battling hordes of monsters. While you can’t heal freely, you will still have means to recover health during your gameplay.

Leveling up provides a small health boost, making it the primary method for regaining health in Warriors: Abyss. Besides that, you’ll need to seek out other opportunities to avoid succumbing to defeat, which may be scarce.

    Juicy Meat

Purchasing Juicy Meat from the King's Cauldron in Warriors: Abyss.

Juicy Meat can be bought at the King’s Cauldron for 1,000 Crystal Sapling Petals or found in Chests after completing Missions. This item provides a substantial health restore, making it one of the most effective ways to recover health during your encounters.

After clearing a Phase, if you notice a Cauldron Icon on a Portal, follow it to the King’s Cauldron, where Juicy Meat is always available for purchase. However, you are limited to buying only one piece at a time, preventing you from stacking them for a complete health replenishment.

When it comes to Missions, look for a Treasure Chest icon on a Portal. After completing the Phase, a Mission will be presented to you; it could be to defeat a specific enemy or eliminate a set number of monsters within a time limit. Completing the Mission rewards you with a Chest that may contain Juicy Meat or other valuable items!

    Peach Trees

Interacting with a Peach Tree to regain health in Warriors: Abyss.

Another option for restoring HP is to find Peach Trees, which may appear sporadically during your runs. After completing a Phase, it’s possible that a Portal will appear, marked with a Peach icon. Entering this Portal will lead you to a Peach Tree, allowing you to recover some HP while also increasing your Max Health for the duration of the run.

Additionally, defeated enemies may drop Peaches, which can provide you with health in the midst of combat. However, these drops are rare, so don’t count on finding them often unless you have perks that heighten drop rates!

    Random Events

Choosing to enter a hot spring in Warriors: Abyss.

The last method to recover health in Warriors: Abyss involves Random Events that can occur upon entering a portal. You may be faced with several choices, each providing different benefits or drawbacks. Often, the options will involve sacrificing some Max Health for a powerful buff, but if you get lucky, you may find beneficial options.

You could come across a Hot Spring, granting you a complete health restoration at the cost of not being able to use Assemble for one phase — a trade worth considering if you need healing. Just remember that options for recovery are limited, so don’t expect them to be readily available!

Getting to Know the Assemble System

Using Assemble during a battle in Warriors: Abyss.

In Warriors: Abyss, Assemble acts as your ultimate attack, enabling you to unleash a powerful strike by summoning your Allied Heroes to execute a devastating blow against your foes.

While Assemble serves as a strong standalone ability, keep in mind that having all six spots in your Formation filled will amplify its damage output when you activate Summoning Skills during the assault. Although you won’t summon a new Allied Hero since they’re already on the battlefield, you’ll inflict massive damage nonetheless.

If you’re seeking to maximize your damage potential, executing your Musou Attack while Assemble is active will unleash a devastating series of strikes from you and your Allied Heroes, obliterating all opponents in your path. To achieve peak effectiveness, ensure you have all six Allies active, which makes leveling up your Skill Stat crucial each run!

    Be Ready for Frequent Defeats

Game Over screen in Warriors: Abyss, showcasing acquired Heroes and Emblems.

Prepare yourself — you will experience plenty of defeats. It’s simply part of the roguelike experience. Don’t get discouraged if a run doesn’t go your way, as you may have a much better performance in the next. Mastering certain characters takes time, so approach each attempt as a valuable learning opportunity, even when the game’s RNG seems unfavorable.

With 100 Heroes at your command, it’s only natural that you may struggle to grasp some of their mechanics or find effective builds early on. However, persistence will pay off, and you’ll grow significantly stronger over time, so don’t let setbacks deter you initially. As is the case with many roguelikes, you may find yourself saying “just one more run” before realizing hours have flown by!

  • Top Spear Loadout for Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Top Spear Loadout for Dynasty Warriors: Origins

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you begin your journey with a sword, making it one of the most straightforward weapons for beginners to master. As you progress and acquire improved swords, you’ll discover that it can become your most effective weapon.

Starting with a sword is strategic due to its versatility. This weapon is effective for one-on-one battles, fending off groups of enemies, charging on horseback, and engaging in duels, thanks to a wide variety of Battle Arts. While there are other weapons that specialize in particular situations, the sword remains a consistently reliable choice.

Moveset for the Sword in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Swords are among the quickest weapons in the game, allowing for rapid Normal attacks. Though heavy attacks can still pack a punch, swords excel in delivering multiple quick strikes, leading to a battle tactic of “death by a thousand cuts.”

    Combo

    Attack

    6x Normal attack

    A six-hit normal attack combo

    Heavy attack

    Advance and deliver a kick

    2x Heavy attack

Slash at enemies staggered by the kick, launching them for follow-up strikes

    Hold Heavy attack

Charge power, move forward, and unleash slashes and shockwaves

Left Stick + Heavy attack while evading

Leap forward nimbly to slash at foes

    Normal attack + Heavy attack

Execute a sweeping move that sends enemies airborne

Normal attack + 2x Heavy attacks

Leap up and strike enemies launched into the air

2x Normal attacks + Heavy attack

Unleash a flurry of forward slashes

3x Normal attacks + Heavy attack

Perform a spinning slash around you

5x Normal attacks + Heavy attack

Deliver a stream of combo strikes

    Tips for Sword Combat

The sword’s speed makes Normal combos particularly effective for taking down waves of enemies during battles. Equip the Wellspring Gem to heal while defeating weaker foes, and consider the Whirlwind Gem since many attacks launch enemies into the air.

This weapon also serves a defensive purpose; it features many attacks that deal damage in all directions which can keep you safe from enemy strikes. A typical Normal combo will push enemies back, potentially trapping others in the same area. However, you’ll need a different strategy when facing stronger foes.

Many sword attacks excel in crowd control but may struggle in one-on-one encounters against generals. Battle Arts like Falcon Fury can be beneficial, while abilities that Shockwave foes or allow for parrying (using the Ascendance or Scorch Gem as support) are crucial during these battles.

If you are skilled at parrying, consider using the Scorch Gem. If you find timing difficult, the Ascendance Gem can provide extra support.

    Optimal Sword Build

It’s easy to think that the sword with the highest Attack value would be the best choice. While that’s true to some extent, remember the importance of traits. Swords are more accessible and typically come with different traits; prioritizing those that enhance your Normal attacks or improve Battle Arts might be more beneficial, even if it means sacrificing some Attack points.

As mentioned, if you expect to face many bosses, rely on either the Scorch Gem or the Ascendance Gem, which will depend on your preference. However, if your strategy focuses on taking down groups of enemies, the Wellspring Gem will be advantageous.

Even though the sword can execute some aerial strikes, it doesn’t depend as heavily on them as other weapons do, so the Vortex Gem is only worth considering if you prefer Battle Arts that launch enemies.

To block officer attacks, you need one Special Battle Art, marked with [Sp.] in their name. Palm Strike requires just one Bravery and is almost always available, while Absconding Strike costs three Bravery but excels beyond simply interrupting orange attacks.

If you choose Absconding Strike, consider pairing it with Aerial Retribution, which costs one Bravery to strike after being hit. However, if you’re hit multiple times in a combo, this may prove ineffective. Overall, we recommend Palm Strike to maintain flexibility.

Outside of that, Falcon Fury is an excellent pick, ideal for crowd situations and costs three Bravery. Mad Blade Rush, at two Bravery, is another strong option.

Your additional choice will depend on your individual needs. Dispersion Arrow requires four Bravery but can inflict widespread damage, while the one Bravery Shadowless Blade targets a single enemy, making it ideal against bosses.

Once you achieve maximum proficiency with swords, consider the five Bravery cost of Shadow Dance to briefly clone yourself in combat.
