According to a writer for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the canceled talk show has not received any backing from its former network for Emmy nomination consideration. Throughout its 11-season run, CBS’s late-night program garnered numerous nominations, including Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, but it only secured two wins. The show was awarded the titles of Best Conversational Series and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series in 2025.

However, on June 20, show writer Felipe Torres Medina shared on Instagram that, “CBS is not doing a For Your Consideration campaign for us, so the @colbertlateshow writers decided to create our own #FYC campaign, strictly for financial reasons.”

Despite Medina’s claims, CBS executed a full FYC campaign for the series across all relevant categories, which included television ads, digital billboards in New York and Los Angeles, and multiple email appeals to voters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS purchased an FYC advertisement for “The Late Show” on their website, linking to a page detailing all the writers involved.

The voting for Emmy nominees concluded on Monday, June 22. On July 8, “The Bear” star Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller from “Widow’s Bay” are scheduled to reveal the nominations. The host for the ceremony has not yet been announced. The event will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock on September 14, 2026.

President Donald Trump is once again making headlines related to late-night TV. This time, the controversy surfaced after the final episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which officially concluded its run on CBS Thursday night.

Soon after the finale aired, Trump took to Truth Social to celebrate Colbert’s departure, criticizing the veteran host and ridiculing his talent and ratings.

Just before 2 a.m., Trump posted: “Colbert is finally done at CBS. Amazing he lasted this long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He resembled a corpse. Anyone off the street could do better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally out of here!”

Watch the official announcement: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has ended, with its final episode airing last night. Meanwhile, Donald Trump responded in his usual style, celebrating the show’s conclusion and throwing jabs at Stephen Colbert.

Trump continued his criticism on Friday morning, issuing another statement targeting late-night television as a whole. He described Colbert’s exit as “the start of the end” for “untalented” and “overpaid” late-night hosts, hinting that others might soon follow suit.

These remarks came just hours after Colbert hosted a heartfelt finale, featuring multiple celebrity appearances and a musical performance by legendary Beatle Paul McCartney.

Trump’s farewell message to Colbert and other late-night hosts

While Trump didn’t specify other hosts, many believe he was referencing stars like Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Fallon—whom he has frequently criticized over the years.

The departure of Colbert sparked extensive discussion across American media and social platforms. Fans commended him for his humor, political insight, and touching farewell. Numerous celebrities and fellow late-night personalities also paid tribute to his substantial TV career.

Although Trump didn’t explicitly mention other hosts, many speculate his comments targeted well-known figures such as Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Fallon, who have all been frequent subjects of his critique online.

The show’s ending ignited intense debate, especially given Colbert’s history of outspoken criticism of Trump. The timing also raised eyebrows because CBS’s parent company, Paramount, was in the process of seeking approval for a major merger with Skydance Media.

Colbert’s tenure lasted 11 years, comprising over 1,800 episodes. The show originated on CBS in 1993, initially hosted by David Letterman before Colbert took over in 2015.

CBS announced that “The Late Show” was ending due to financial challenges confronting modern late-night programming. Officials stated that the decision was purely financial and not related to politics or content.

However, the show’s conclusion ignited significant debate across media outlets and social media. Critics questioned whether political motives played a role, especially since Colbert had been one of Trump’s most outspoken critics over the years. The timing also drew attention because Paramount was still navigating approval for its merger with Skydance Media.

Colbert and Trump had a longstanding public feud, with the comedian often mocking Trump on his show, while Trump attacked Colbert online. Their rivalry became emblematic of the new breed of political-media conflicts in late-night TV.

Reactions to Colbert’s farewell poured onto social media, with viewers praising him for his humor, political commentary, and emotional goodbye. Several entertainment personalities and fellow hosts also honored his vast television career.

Stephen Colbert Mocks Trump After ‘Late Show’ Wins First Emmy

Digital Phablet – The ongoing feud between Stephen Colbert and President Trump shows no signs of ending, even after The Late Show’s recent Emmy win.

At the 2025 Emmy Awards held on Sunday, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert clinched the best talk show category for the first time, surpassing competitors like Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Daily Show.

Excited to display his golden statuette to the live audience, Colbert joked during his first appearance following the awards ceremony on Tuesday, “We should have been canceled years ago.” CBS announced in July that The Late Show would conclude in May 2026, which appeared to be the direction the show was heading.

Following the achievement, Colbert joked that the award belonged to the 200 dedicated team members who produce the show—especially the writers, who meticulously prepare the script for every episode, including his on-stage monologues. “Every day, they jot down everything I say so everyone can take a script home. It’s incredible how they do it daily,” he said.

But Colbert emphasized that the team’s effort extends beyond just the writers. It encompasses everyone involved—those working behind the scenes in production, acting, editing, band members, the control room staff, props, graphic designers, researchers, digital professionals, accountants, legal team, wardrobe, makeup artisans, security personnel, maintenance staff, assistants, interns, and, importantly, the audience. “All of you—everyone who comes through those doors—are what makes this show possible. And I want to acknowledge that, but I’ll keep the speech short,” he said.

He then lightheartedly joked that he’d “jab your eyes out with the wings right there” if anyone tried to touch his Emmy.

Colbert also expressed gratitude to the Television Academy for voting for him, his colleagues at the show, and his fellow nominees, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel.

To cap off his acceptance speech, Colbert made a teasing reference to his long-time adversary, saying, “Speaking of Emmys, Donald Trump doesn’t have one.”

It was an unexpected moment of triumph for Colbert and his team, especially considering the show had previously been canceled, and Trump was quick to boast about the news in July. At that time, Trump posted on Truth Social, “I absolutely love that Stephen Colbert got fired,” claiming that his talent was even worse than his ratings and predicting that Jimmy Kimmel would be next, stating, “He has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld from Fox News is better than all of them combined, including that fool on NBC who ruined the once-great Tonight Show.”

While Trump hasn’t secured an Emmy himself, he was nominated twice—once in 2004 and again in 2005—for The Apprentice, competing for best reality competition show.

Digital Phablet – “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” secures its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Series, just seven months before its conclusion.

The audience at Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater erupted in applause as Colbert accepted the accolade, expressing gratitude to the approximately 200 exceptional behind-the-scenes professionals of the now-ending CBS late-night program.

He reflected on the show’s broader influence, sharing that he initially envisioned creating a late-night comedy centered on “love,” but later realized it was fundamentally about “loss.”

He remarked, “You don’t always recognize how much you cherish something until you’re at risk of losing it.” Never before has he loved his country more than now, affirming, “God bless the United States.”

Quoting Prince’s song “Let’s Go Crazy,” Colbert encouraged resilience with humor: “Stay strong and brave, and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor.”

Back in July, CBS announced that “The Late Show” would end after this season, concluding in May. The network clarified that this decision was unrelated to show performance or content and was linked to a future business partnership between Paramount (CBS’s parent company) and Skydance, pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission under the Trump administration.

Following this announcement, many of Colbert’s fans expressed anger, perceiving the move as retaliation for his longstanding criticism of President Trump. Colbert also mocked Paramount for having to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit with Trump, who claimed that CBS’s “60 Minutes” had misleadingly edited an interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

CBS denied these allegations. During his victory speech, Colbert maintained professionalism, thanking CBS for allowing him to be part of a rich late-night tradition and expressing hope that it would continue well beyond his tenure.

This year, other notable talk shows competing for awards included “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on ABC.
