Lee of South Korea selfies with Xi using gift phone

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung took a selfie with Chinese President Xi Jinping after a dinner at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi Jinping gifted Lee a Xiaomi smartphone last year, joking during their previous meeting that the device might be capable of spying. During his visit to Beijing, Lee shared three selfies with Xi and their wives on social media platform X. He mentioned that the photos were captured with the phone Xi gave him.

“I snapped a selfie with President Xi Jinping and his wife using the Xiaomi I received as a gift in Gyeongju,” Lee wrote. “Thanks to them, I got the shot of a lifetime.” He added, “I will communicate more often and work more closely moving forward.”

This Xiaomi device gained attention in November when Xi made a humorous remark to Lee at an APEC summit in South Korea. Lee inquired whether the phone’s communication line was secure, prompting Xi to joke about checking for a backdoor, referring to software that could allow third-party monitoring—an unusual display of humor from the usually reserved Chinese leader.

During their 90-minute meeting on Monday, Xi encouraged Lee to make strategic decisions jointly with Beijing amid a complex and turbulent global landscape. Lee’s visit comes after a U.S. military operation in Caracas captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and brought him to New York to face drug trafficking charges—a move condemned by both Beijing and Pyongyang.

The online response to Lee’s selfie was swift, with more than 3,400 shares within hours. One user commented, “Sir, do you realize Nicolás Maduro used the same phone?” Lee, who became president in June after the impeachment and removal of his predecessor over martial law issues, has been working to thaw strained diplomatic relations with China after years of freeze.

A man in southern India violently murdered his estranged wife at a women’s hostel and then took a selfie with her lifeless body, as reported by NDTV. The victim, Sripriya, worked for a private company in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and had separated from her husband, Balamurugam, who was from Tirunelveli.

Police authorities stated that the suspect arrived at the hostel on Sunday afternoon, hiding a sickle beneath his clothing, seeking to meet her. An argument ensued shortly after their meeting, escalating into violence when Balamurugam drew the sickle and fatally attacked her. After the assault, he took a photo with her body and shared it on WhatsApp, accusing her of betrayal.

The scene of the crime caused widespread panic and chaos within the hostel. The suspect did not attempt to flee and remained at the scene until police arrived, subsequently being arrested there. • AI App Takes Nail Selfie to Spot Blood Condition Affecting Billions

AI App Takes Nail Selfie to Spot Blood Condition Affecting Billions

Approximately two billion individuals globally are affected by anemia, a blood disorder characterized by a deficiency in red blood cells or hemoglobin (Hgb). This condition leads to a decreased capacity to transport oxygen throughout the body.

Chronic anemia has serious health repercussions, including the risk of heart attacks and organ damage, particularly for pregnant women who face higher vulnerabilities. Traditionally, diagnosing anemia necessitated a visit to a healthcare facility to undergo blood tests like CBC, Hemoglobin and Hematocrit analysis, or peripheral blood smear evaluations.

Imagine being able to snap a selfie of your nails, and an AI-powered application tells you if you might have anemia. Researchers at Chapman University have made this a reality. The app provides a non-invasive, convenient way to assess potential signs of anemia with a high level of accuracy.

    How Effective Is It?

    Nature Communications

This application has already reached over 200,000 users in the United States, completing more than a million tests as part of a medical investigation. According to the team behind it, the app can serve as a highly effective and scalable tool for monitoring anemia.

The research team reports that the app’s performance is comparable to standard laboratory testing, achieving sensitivity and specificity rates of 89% and 93%, respectively. Additionally, the app incorporates an AI-driven personalization feature for users already diagnosed with anemia, resulting in even greater accuracy.

This accessible digital solution allows hundreds of millions of individuals to routinely check their hemoglobin levels without the need for costly blood tests at clinics.

In 2020, another company named Sanguina launched an app called AnemoCheck for individuals with chronic anemia. While that app was designed more as a lifestyle tool and didn’t seek regulatory approval, it paved the way for further assessments. A similar application was tested in India, demonstrating its effectiveness for public health screening.

    Key Advantages

Experts emphasize that this app should not replace traditional medical tests or aim for self-diagnosis. Instead, it acts as a preliminary alert system that encourages users to consult healthcare professionals if they notice worsening conditions.

“The app holds particular significance for individuals with chronic anemia, including those with kidney issues or cancer, as they require frequent monitoring,” the research team notes. The personalization feature significantly boosts accuracy within this target group by up to 50%.

The ultimate aim is to facilitate self-monitoring and enable early interventions from healthcare providers without the delays associated with lab result processing. Interestingly, the app also includes geolocation capabilities, creating what the team describes as “the first county-level anemia prevalence map in the U.S.”

The experts involved in this endeavor hope that the app will enhance public health initiatives by allowing broad-scale anemia screenings, coupled with regional prevalence mapping. More in-depth information about the project can be found in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

  • “Completing Every Selfie Location on Xephyr in Revenge of the Savage Planet”

“Completing Every Selfie Location on Xephyr in Revenge of the Savage Planet”

Revenge of the Savage Planet is a game that humorously explores the consequences of letting one corporation control all aspects of space travel. It also pokes fun at modern social behaviors, such as the obsession with taking photos, regardless of the situation.

Imagine losing your job but gaining access to entire planets to roam freely. Why not make the most of your time by capturing memories? Although Xephyr may appear to be just an expanse of sand and cacti, the right angles can transform even the driest landscape into a vibrant oasis. Here’s where you can snap a selfie.

What Are Selfies in Revenge of the Savage Planet?

Referring to them as selfies might suggest that Revenge of the Savage Planet has a photo mode where you can take pictures on your own. While the game does encourage discovering specific locations, you can’t take custom photos. Instead, selfies are marked locations on each planet, indicated by pedestals.

These are part of the D.I.A.P.E.R. program DLC and are essential for completing the Interstellar Geographic quest. Even though you’re not personally framing the shot, the game provides some stunning visuals for you.

Since the UI is disabled, you can also take screenshots of these scenic moments if you wish.

    Every Selfie Location on Xephyr

There are 16 selfie locations in total, with three found on Xephyr. They are somewhat scattered, so here’s where to discover each one. To make things easier, use your Survey skill to highlight them if they’re within 100-200 meters. Keep in mind that these markers won’t remain on your map, but they will be helpful in the search.

Additionally, you can check your journal for hints about the location of each selfie spot and the overall count on each planet.

    Selfie Location #1

The first selfie is located in the Cactus Valley, which is north of your entry point into Xephyr. Walk straight ahead until you reach some greenery. The Selfie Pedestal is positioned just south of the teleporter, easily visible.

    Selfie Location #2

The second spot is at the Great Oasis, situated far to the east of Xephyr. Keep heading east until you encounter the large body of water; it’s one of the few. The Selfie Pedestal can be found in the southeast corner from the teleporter, providing a beautiful view of the planet behind you.

    Selfie Location #3

The third selfie can be found in the G’nortt’s High Rise region, located south of the Cactus Valley. The Selfie Pedestal is nearly directly south of the first pedestal you discovered, nestled in the hills just northwest of the nearby teleporter.

With these locations, you should be able to find all Xephyr selfies. You can track your progress from the journal; selfies you’ve already captured will show in black-and-white, while those you haven’t taken will remain in color. Completing these selfies brings you closer to achieving your Interstellar Geographic mission.

    Selfie Location #4

The last selfie location is in the Larval Roost, where you first encounter Wormzilla. This spot is situated on a hill to the west of the region, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding area.
