As e-cigarettes become more widespread, scientists are uncovering new information about their impact on the human body. An increasing number of studies suggest that vaping can harm the heart and blood vessels, elevating the risk of serious health issues. Recent research published in the June 2026 issue of Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology reveals that certain cooling chemicals found in some vaping products may disrupt the heart’s electrical signals. This disruption raises concerns about an increased likelihood of irregular heart rhythms and, in some cases, cardiac arrest.
E-cigarettes operate by heating a liquid that typically contains nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. Instead of producing smoke, they generate an aerosol that users inhale into their lungs. Although often called vapor, this aerosol consists of tiny particles and chemicals capable of entering the body. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, many of these substances are harmful or potentially harmful.

Any supposed short-term gains are more likely due to relief from withdrawal symptoms than genuine improvements in brain function.
Health experts emphasize that quitting all tobacco and nicotine products remains the healthiest option. Effective treatments, such as FDA-approved nicotine replacement therapies and professional counseling, are available to help many succeed in quitting.
