Critics Slam Disney’s Moana Live-Action Remake Despite Praise

Disney has once again transformed one of its most acclaimed animated films into a live-action version, but the early critics’ assessments are largely unfavorable for the 2016 hit, Moana.

Dwayne Johnson returns as the demigod Maui, alongside 19-year-old Australian-Samoan newcomer Catherine Laga’aia, who stars as Moana, the daughter of a Polynesian chief.

Despite its Friday release, the new adaptation has been heavily criticized as “flat,” “boring,” and “disappointing.”

However, there are some voices of praise. Owen Gleiberman of Variety commented that it “breaks free from the remake slump — in fact, it elevates above it.” He praised the film’s “beauty, humor, and fairy-tale magic,” adding that Johnson’s casting was “spot on.”

In contrast, Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian described the film as a “competent yet insignificant and dull return-to-basics live-action remake,” giving it only two stars.

He criticized Johnson’s performance as “robotic” and pointed out that CGI use was so excessive that it looked indistinguishable from animation. Bradshaw concluded that the film “feels like an unnecessary, commercially driven project.”

    Tweet about Rotten Tomatoes score

“‘MOANA’ debuts with just 32% on Rotten Tomatoes — one of the lowest scores ever for a Disney live-action remake. Read our review: https://t.co/tjRoIlRGDp” — DiscussingFilm, July 8, 2026

Critics have expressed that Johnson’s acting appears “automatic,” as if generated by artificial intelligence, while the heavy CGI work makes the film seem more like an animated piece than genuine live action.

Bradshaw summarized that the film “comes across as a superfluous, commercialized product.” Clarisse Loughrey from The Independent gave it just one star, calling it “a complete waste of everyone’s time and talent.” She questioned whether it’s acceptable to accept Dwayne Johnson’s unchanged vocal performance a decade after its original release.

    Tweet on pre-sales performance

“Pre-sales for the Moana live-action remake are underperforming more than expected. The opening weekend is projected between $45M and $60M. With a budget of around $200M, it risks becoming one of Disney’s biggest flops.” — Global Box Office, July 6, 2026

Loughrey also criticized the animation style, noting that some scenes were reportedly shot outdoors in Hawaii, not in a studio as assumed, but she couldn’t tell which.

Empire’s John Nugent described Johnson’s role as “reminiscent of an AI-generated interpretation,” and questioned the accuracy of calling it “live action,” given the heavy reliance on CGI. His two-star review called the remake “pointless,” emphasizing that the original film was a “fun, humorous, and heartfelt story with fantastic music and a fresh Polynesian perspective on the Disney princess formula.”

Many critics have echoed these sentiments, with Oli London from the Associated Press dismissing it as “heartless and ugly,” and The Telegraph suggesting it “could have been made by a ChatGPT prompt.”

Kevin Maher of The Times criticized Johnson’s age — 54 — stating he was “three decades too old” for the role and describing his performance as “inexplicably dull and subdued.” Maher labeled the film a “lazy cash grab,” lamenting that it drained the original’s lively spirit and grandeur.

Similarly, Robbie Collin from The Telegraph remarked that virtually every scene could be generated at the push of a button by typing “What if this Moana scene was remade in live action?” into an AI prompt.

Despite the widespread negative reviews, a lone positive note was struck by David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter, who called it “engaging family entertainment filled with visual interest, vibrant colors, stunning design elements, and scenic tropical locations.”

The original screenwriter Jared Bush reworked the story, while Lin-Manuel Miranda maintained his musical contributions. Hamilton’s director Thomas Kail made his feature debut with this film.

Over the past 15 years, Disney has produced more than 20 live-action remakes of its classics, with varying results. The “Little Mermaid” remake underperformed at the box office in 2023, but Disney rebounded in 2024 with “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

Last year, Disney faced a $170 million loss on its “Snow White” live-action project but recovered quickly with “Lilo & Stitch,” which grossed over $1 billion, becoming one of the year’s top performers.

Leak Suggests Dark Souls Trilogy Remake is in Development

Recently, rumors have surfaced on social media suggesting that FromSoftware’s Dark Souls trilogy is in the process of being remade under the guidance of publisher Bandai Namco. However, it’s important to approach this information with caution, as the source of the leak remains unidentified.

This speculation has also sparked debate about why Bloodborne hasn’t received the same treatment, despite numerous fans requesting a port to next-generation consoles and PC to enhance performance—rather than playing the game on their PS3s at 30 FPS.

The initial leak originated from YouTuber and content creator Shirrako, who shared via X (formerly Twitter), “Dark Souls Trilogy Remake in development. A reputable source from my mirror reports.”

Bandai Namco has yet to respond to these claims.

Leak claims Dark Souls trilogy is being remade

Shirrako, recognized for his YouTube channel with over 2.5 million subscribers where he posts full gameplay videos without commentary, shared the news. The tweet generated mixed reactions across social media platforms. Many fans pointed out that the games still hold up well today, while others believed that only Dark Souls 1 and 2 need remakes to address gameplay issues and outdated graphics.

One user commented, “Honestly, the only games that need to be remade are DS1 and 2. They look kinda ugly now. DS3 still looks pretty good, though.”

Another added, “Anything but Bloodborne at this point. Sony really deserves a fate worse than Xbox.”

With Sony now pulling support from Bluepoint Games—famous for remaking Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus—speculation has intensified about who might take on the development of these rumored remakes.

Dark Souls 2 often receives the most criticism among the trilogy, with complaints about gameplay mechanics, level design, and the overwhelming number of enemies in each area. Despite this, it maintains a dedicated fanbase that claims they wouldn’t change a thing about it.

  • How the Tifa Outfit Completes Your Experience in FF7 Remake’s Solving

How the Tifa Outfit Completes Your Experience in FF7 Remake’s Solving

Early in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Tifa asks Cloud to go out for the evening. She then suggests that Cloud choose her outfit for their “date.” You can pick from three options: “Something Mature,” “Something Sporty,” or “Something Exotic.” This choice doesn’t seem to have a big impact, and the date itself doesn’t happen because the team gets busy attacking Mako reactors.

However, this decision does influence later events in a small way. Before making your choice, it’s helpful to know what each option results in so you can pick based on that information. Here’s what your decision affects and the outcome of each choice.

Updated on February 20, 2025, by Seth Parmer:
With Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, we revisited this guide to add more details and ease-of-use tips, helping you see what’s needed to unlock this choice and what each dialogue option unlocks!

What Does Tifa’s Outfit Choice Affect?

During the third chapter of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, you will spend time with Tifa and Cloud in the Sector 7 Slums. If you complete all side quests in this chapter, you unlock the “Discover: Alone at Last” activity. During this, Tifa invites Cloud out and asks him to choose her outfit—this choice affects her look later in the game during the ninth chapter, when she disguises herself as a bride candidate for Don Corneo in Wall Market.

This choice only changes Tifa’s appearance in that scene; it doesn’t impact the story or events. The options Cloud can select are:

    • Something Mature
    • Something Sporty
    • Something Exotic

Each choice results in a very different appearance. They also bring some brief, unique lines during the scene and afterward, but these are subtle and don’t significantly influence gameplay or story, so there’s no need to worry about missing anything.

    Prerequisite Side Quests

Before you can choose Tifa’s outfit, you must complete certain side quests in Chapter 3, Home Sweet Slum. These are called “Odd Jobs” and include:

    • Chadley’s Report
    • Rat Problem
    • Nuisance in the Factory
    • Lost Friends
    • On the Prowl
    • Just Flew in From the Graveyard

Completing all six of these quests is necessary to unlock Tifa’s outfit choice. It’s worth taking your time to do everything in the Sector 7 area to ensure the option becomes available.

    All Dress Options for Tifa

Once you’ve completed the prerequisites, you can see how each choice shapes Tifa’s appearance during the “Discover: Alone at Last” scene. Each dress not only looks different but can also alter some dialogue lines during the scene and possibly later.

    Here are the options:

    Choice Dress Description Image Preview
    Something Mature Elegant, sophisticated look
Something Sporty Casual, activewear style Sporty Dress
Something Exotic Unique, eye-catching outfit Exotic Dress

    How The Dress Choices Work

Choosing one of these outfits results in a drastically different look for Tifa later in the game, especially during her disguise sequence in Wall Market. The dialogue lines are subtle but can be distinct during the scene and potentially affect some minor interactions afterward.

To see all possible outfits and how they differ, you can refer to the images above. If you’re aiming for specific achievements or just want to experience all versions, selecting each outfit in different playthroughs is the way to go.

    In summary:

    • The option you choose influences Tifa’s appearance during her Wall Market disguise scene.
    • It does not change major story points or gameplay beyond appearance and minor dialogue variations.
    • Completing all related side quests in Chapter 3 is necessary to unlock this choice.

This decision adds a layer of personalization and replayability, giving you different visual styles for Tifa based on your preferred choice.

Syrian actor Samer Ismail has announced the start of filming in Istanbul for the Arabic version of the popular Turkish series “Endless Love” (Kara Sevda), promising a fresh and innovative production that will captivate audiences.

This 90-episode series will feature Samer Ismail and Valerie Abou Chacra, a pairing expected to attract significant attention. The trend of adapting Turkish series into Arabic productions is currently on the rise, with numerous projects in development. Following the efforts on Arabic adaptations of “The Ambassador’s Daughter” and “You Knock on My Door” in Turkey, work has now officially begun on the Arabic version of “Endless Love.”

In addition to Ismail and Abou Chacra, the series will feature actress Ward El Khal, who is making her return to the screen after nearly two years. Fans of the actress have warmly received this news, especially since she has often expressed her surprise at her absence from the artistic scene.

Ward El Khal is renowned as one of Lebanon’s most prominent actresses, with a successful career stretching back to the 1990s. She has starred in notable Lebanese series such as “The Storm Blows Twice,” “Women in the Storm,” and most recently, 2023’s “For Death.”

Furthermore, the Arabic adaptation will not be produced through Lebanese drama or the 2026 Ramadan season, but rather as a dubbed series by MBC, which has been actively expanding its portfolio of Arabic adaptations of Turkish shows. This move marks a strategic growth for MBC, which had paused Turkish series broadcasts in 2019 due to political sensitivities, but later resumed and intensified its focus on Turkish content by producing Arabic versions in Istanbul.

The network has renewed its commitment to dubbed dramas, extending their contracts for another five years and featuring Arabic versions of popular Turkish series. Current productions include “Sen Çal Kapımı” (You Knock on My Door), “Sefirin Kızı” (The Ambassador’s Daughter), and “Kara Sevda” (Endless Love). The latter remains one of Turkey’s most acclaimed series of the past decade, garnering high viewership worldwide since its debut in 2015. It tells a complex love story crafted across two seasons—35 episodes in the first season concluding in June 2016, and a continuation that started in September of the same year.

    Instagram Post
The series revolves around Kemal, an ambitious young engineer from a humble background, who falls for Nihan, a beautiful woman from a wealthy family. This innocent romance is challenged by the social realities and class divisions of their families. Nihan is eventually forced to marry Emir, a wealthy businessman with many secrets. The story intricately weaves between past and present, turning into a dramatic saga of conflicts, mystery, destiny, and revenge.

More than a simple love story, “Blind Love” thoughtfully examines themes of social class, authority, and justice. It raises profound questions about sacrifice and love amidst wealth and influence—topics that resonate deeply with Arab viewers.

The Arabic cast includes Lebanese and Syrian talents such as Samer Ismail, Yamen Hajjali, Abdel Hakim Qutaifan, Valerie Abou Chacra, and Ward El Khal. Filming is scheduled to take place in Turkey over several months, with broadcasts expected on television and the Shahid app in 2026.

Samer Ismail announced the start of filming in Istanbul for the Arabic remake of the Turkish hit “Endless Love” (Kara Sevda), promising a distinctive and groundbreaking project that will attract viewers.

This 90-episode series will star Samer Ismail and Valerie Abou Chacra, whose chemistry is expected to make waves. The adaptation of Turkish series into Arabic is currently expanding rapidly, with multiple projects underway. After preparations for the Arabic versions of “The Ambassador’s Daughter” and “You Knock on My Door” in Turkey, work on the Arabic version of “Endless Love” has now officially kicked off.

Along with Ismail and Abou Chacra, actress Ward El Khal will make her return to television after a nearly two-year break. Fans have warmly welcomed her comeback, especially given her past expressions of surprise at her absence from the industry.

Ward El Khal is well regarded as one of Lebanon’s most notable actresses, with a career spanning several decades. She has appeared in numerous prominent Lebanese series, including “The Storm Blows Twice,” “Women in the Storm,” and her latest role in 2023’s “For Death.”

Interestingly, Ward El Khal’s re-entry into television will not be through Lebanese drama or the Ramadan 2026 lineup, but via an Arabic-dubbed series produced by MBC, which has been actively involved in creating Arabic adaptations of Turkish dramas. This strategic move follows MBC’s decision to expand its dubbed content after halting Turkish series broadcasts in 2019 due to political concerns. The network then resumed and intensified its focus on Turkish stories by producing Arabic versions in Istanbul.

The channel has renewed its contracts for dubbed series for an additional five years, focusing on high-profile Turkish hits like “Sen Çal Kapımı” (You Knock on My Door), “Sefirin Kızı” (The Ambassador’s Daughter), and “Kara Sevda” (Endless Love). “Kara Sevda” remains one of Turkey’s most acclaimed series of the last decade, acclaimed worldwide since its 2015 debut, featuring stars like Burak Özçivit, Neslihan Atagül, and Ebru Urgancıoğlu. The series explores an intense love story across two seasons—initially 35 episodes ending in June 2016, followed by a second season beginning shortly after.

    Instagram Post
The production continues to thrive, with Turkish series being dubbed into Arabic and filmed in Turkey over several months. These productions are planned for broadcast on TV and streaming platforms like Shahid in 2026.

Just last year, Digital Phablet released the survival horror game Cronos: The New Dawn, which was well received by fans, especially those who enjoyed titles like Dead Space due to the similarities between the games. This release further cemented the studio’s reputation for creating high-quality horror experiences beyond just remaking classics such as Silent Hill 2.

Silent Hill 1 remains a legendary title, celebrated as one of the greatest horror games of all time since its debut in 1999. Despite its dated visuals and older gameplay mechanics, it continues to hold a special place in fans’ hearts. As for the remake of Silent Hill 2, there is optimism that Digital Phablet will do justice to the highly anticipated project.

BlockBlasters wasn’t just a game; it was a $150,000 crypto heist concealed within Steam

    Source: X (@rastalandTV)

Steam’s latest crisis demonstrates how quickly a “cute indie game” can morph into a “cryptocurrency drain.”

The game, titled BlockBlasters, debuted on Steam in July, seemingly harmless with retro-inspired visuals. But on August 30, an insidious update containing malware went live. The malicious code included scripts that bypassed antivirus protections, hijacked browsers, and emptied crypto wallets.

By the time cybersecurity experts identified the attack, over $150,000 had been stolen from hundreds of victims.

One of the most severe cases involved Latvian Twitch streamer Raivo “RastalandTV” Plavnieks, who is fighting stage-4 cancer and had been fundraising through his streams to cover treatment costs. After downloading BlockBlasters during a live broadcast, he watched as $32,000 of his supporters’ donations disappeared—funds meant to keep him alive.

Valve removed the game on September 21, almost a month after the malicious update was released—yet by then, damage was done.

Every security breach represents real people suffering genuine losses. For gamers and content creators, staying vigilant online isn’t optional; it’s essential for survival. Even major gaming platforms can deliver malware if nobody’s paying attention, and if you store cryptocurrency or sensitive data on the same PC you game on, you’re basically playing Russian roulette with your finances.

The most unsettling aspect of Silent Hill f? It’s not actually Silent Hill.

Image from the official Silent Hill page on X

Konami’s Silent Hill ‘f’ feels less like a haunting return and more like an anime-inspired spin-off with a stolen name badge.

It abandons the franchise’s signature psychological horror, complex lore, and eerie otherworldly environments for a story penned by a cosplay-obsessed anime fan, reminiscent of early 2000s schoolyard horror where classmates secretly plot murders.

The “Dark Shrine” nightmare realm is dull and repetitive rather than terrifying; the tiny, uninspired world lacks atmosphere, and untranslated environmental text leaves non-Japanese players at a disadvantage.

Combat feels sluggish, the interface is clunky, and despite a 10-hour playtime with promises of multiple endings, the game fails to evoke the series’ core horror charm. Honestly, the most disturbing thing might be how far Silent Hill ‘f’ strays from the original series.

“Yo, pass the vape—I wanna fire up Doom.”

“If it has a screen, it can run Doom.” An old saying from 1993. I thought getting Doom to run on a pregnancy test was a true achievement, but I was wrong. So naive.

Aaron Christophel, a software developer and hardware hacker, managed to run the classic shooter on the Aspire Pixo Kit. What makes this device unique is its small color display and a 32-bit microcontroller, allowing Doom to run at a choppy 6 FPS on the vape.

It’s not running natively on the vape, though. The game is streamed from a PC to the device via USB. Since the vape has just 64 KB of RAM—nowhere near the 4 MB Doom requires—it can’t run directly. Still, turning a vape into a secondary monitor is a neat trick and a fun proof of concept.

And of course, the inevitable question: Can it run Crysis?

  • Crash Bandicoot Co-Creator: Remake Completely Botched Jumping Mechanics

Crash Bandicoot Co-Creator: Remake Completely Botched Jumping Mechanics

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has become a favorite for both old fans and new players, reviving interest in platform games. However, many players have a major issue with the remake—the jumping mechanics. Since jumping is the core aspect of this genre, this is a significant problem.

There has been much discussion about why the jumping feels off, with some saying it feels “broken.” Recently, a possible explanation came from Andrew Gavin, co-founder of Naughty Dog. In a detailed post on GamesRadar+, he explained where Vicarious Visions, now known as Blizzard Albany, made mistakes.

“The Game’s Fundamental Jumping Mechanic Feels Worse Than The 1996 Original”

Gavin noted, “On the original PlayStation, we only had digital buttons—pressed or not pressed. There were no analog sticks. Players needed different jump heights, but our options were limited. Most games used a basic method: detect a button press, then trigger a jump of fixed height. This was not great for platforming.”

Crash Bandicoot’s approach was different. Gavin explained, “The game detected when you pressed jump, started an animation, and then measured how long you held the button. As Crash jumped, we adjusted physics and force based on how long you kept the button held. Letting go early resulted in a shorter jump, while holding it down gave you maximum height.”

When they remade Crash, they nailed the visuals. It looks great, stays true to the original, and captures the spirit. But they completely messed up the jumping mechanics.

For some reason, the remake changed this system. Gavin mentioned, “They reverted to fixed jumps. They soon realized Crash couldn’t make half the jumps effectively. So, they made all jumps maximum height. Now, every jump in the remake is large and floaty. The precise little hops between platforms feel awkward. The jumping mechanics feel worse than the 1996 original, even though it’s on much more powerful hardware.”

Crash in front of a bridge, in Crash N.Sane Trilogy

Fans complained so much about the jumping that Activision’s editorial manager, Kevin Kelly, wrote a blog post soon after the game’s release to address concerns. He stated, “We studied the three titles and chose the jumping style from Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped as our starting point because it gave players better control. We tuned jumps differently for each game to match the originals.”

Kelly claimed the only difference is that you drop faster after letting go of the X button, requiring more precision. However, this doesn’t solve the issue of the floaty jumps. Gavin mentioned that less control over jumps and faster falling makes Crash much harder to handle than in the PS1 days.

  • Dragon Quest 7 Remake Reportedly Completing Solving Tasks

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake and Upcoming Projects

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is set to release on October 30 of this year. Meanwhile, Square Enix is also working on Dragon Quest 12, the next major game in the series. Recently, there are hints that there may be a third Dragon Quest game in the works.

This new game might be coming out soon.

Dragon Quest 7 May Get a Remake

According to MP1st, Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is reportedly being remade. An internal document suggests it could launch within this fiscal year or early next year.

This game first came out on the PlayStation 1 and later on the Nintendo 3DS. It’s considered one of the more underrated and lengthy entries in the series. MP1st believes the term “Remake” indicates that it might be more than just a visual update.

Besides the internal document, MP1st claims to have seen a short teaser featuring the game’s logo against a cloudy backdrop, which could be part of Square Enix’s marketing plan.

As with any rumor, especially those from Square Enix, it’s wise to approach this information cautiously. However, it does seem plausible, especially given Square’s recent efforts to revisit older games from the series. According to the report, we might not have to wait long to see if this rumor turns out to be true.

  • Completing Combat Evolved’s Remake Reportedly Lacks Multiplayer

Halo is facing challenges right now, particularly among its developers, following recent layoffs at Microsoft and Xbox. This has left fans worried about the series’ future. However, Phil Spencer gave a hint of hope during this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, saying we can expect “the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning” sometime next year.

During last month’s Halo World Championship announcement, Halo Studios hinted that it would reveal upcoming projects at the event scheduled for this October. There are rumors about a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, which many hope will refresh a series that needs it.

Halo: Combat Evolved’s Remake Reportedly Won’t Have Multiplayer

Sadly, excitement for the Halo: Combat Evolved remake has declined. Halo insider RebsGaming shared in a recent YouTube video that multiple sources told him a Halo anniversary project is set for release in 2026, but they “have not heard anything about multiplayer.”

This suggests we might only get a campaign mode for the remake, which is disappointing given the strong community appreciation for Halo’s multiplayer. Many fans criticized the Master Chief Collection’s remaster for lacking multiplayer, so it’s disheartening that it might be missing again despite this being a full remake.

RebsGaming also mentioned that Halo could possibly be available on PlayStation, which wouldn’t be surprising since Forza and Gears of War have made similar moves.

Of course, none of this information has been confirmed by Halo Studios or Xbox yet, so take it with caution. But if you were looking forward to playing Halo: Combat Evolved’s remake with friends, it might be wise to prepare for disappointment.

  • Completing Black Flag Features Sparks Remake Rumors Amid Solving

Completing Black Flag Features Sparks Remake Rumors Amid Solving

Yesterday, Ubisoft updated the Steam page for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, adding details about several features that are not in the game yet.

Twitter user The Hidden One shared these details:

    • Custom volume controls
    • Stereo sound
    • Surround sound
    • Mouse-only option
    • Adjustable difficulty
    • Save anytime

There are rumors that Ubisoft is working on a remake of this popular pirate game. Matt Ryan, who voices Edward Kenway, hinted at this earlier this year. It’s possible that the original Black Flag could be replaced by the new version. This happened with the Assassin’s Creed 3 remaster in 2019, setting a precedent.

If you don’t own Black Flag yet, now might be a good time to buy it—it’s currently priced at $11.99 on Steam.

Other games, like BioShock, the GTA trilogy, and Dark Souls, have also seen remasters that took the place of the originals. Fans often debate this, as new versions may have issues like old bugs or upgraded graphics that don’t work well. Another major concern is that removing original games can prevent new players from enjoying classic mods from the community. Consequently, many fans are worried that Ubisoft might treat Black Flag similarly.

“If They Replace The OG Game With The Remake I’ll Lose It”

Many commenters express that this would be a “terrible idea” and insist they “won’t support it if they do this.” However, some remain hopeful that Ubisoft might offer the Black Flag remake or remaster alongside the original. But considering Assassin’s Creed 3 did not do this, it’s unlikely.

Fans have noted that if this happens, the original game won’t be available for purchase, but it won’t be completely removed either.

Despite the concerns, there is a silver lining. The changes on the Steam store may indicate that Ubisoft is preparing to announce the remake. The company is also expected to release two more Assassin’s Creed games this year, with one rumored to be the multiplayer game Invictus and the other possibly Black Flag, fitting with the current timeline.

  • Yuji Horii Hints at Possible Chrono Trigger Remake

Yuji Horii Hints at Possible Chrono Trigger Remake

During a Comicon panel in Naples, Italy, Yuji Horii, the mastermind behind Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger, may have inadvertently dropped a hint about a potential Chrono Trigger remake in the works. According to a Reddit user named u/df_tarocco_1, an audience member reported that “[Horii] let this slip during an interview. The host whispered something in his ear, and he covered his mouth. The crowd went wild.”

However, it’s wise to take this news with a grain of skepticism. Despite the buzz surrounding the franchise, there has been no official confirmation about a Chrono Trigger remake. Other Reddit users are backing up this claim, with one noting that Horii has a history of accidentally leaking information about various franchises he has worked on.

Another Redditor, u/TheFishyOne, mentioned that when the interviewer suggested the news could be groundbreaking, the translator responded (after a brief exchange with Horii), “You have heard nothing.” As it stands, the easiest way to play Chrono Trigger is via Steam or on iOS/Google Play, since it’s not offered on the eShop.

It’s essential to remember that this revelation doesn’t necessarily point to a full-blown remake. It could simply indicate a port for newer consoles or even a feature in Nintendo Switch Online’s classic library. Furthermore, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition was released in 2022, bringing a fresh wave of fans to what is recognized as an indirect continuation of the Chrono Cross story.

March 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger, and Square Enix teased fans with a cryptic post on X that ignited speculation about a possible remake. If it happens, it might take the form of a 2D-HD remake similar to Octopath Traveler.

Despite the excitement surrounding this news, it’s crucial to remain cautious. The idea of a much-anticipated remake has been floated before, often without materializing. However, if Horii truly let the cat out of the bag regarding a Chrono Trigger remake, it’s plausible we’ll hear more about it soon.

  • Chrono Trigger Anniversary Sparks Hopes For Remake

Chrono Trigger Anniversary Sparks Hopes For Remake

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Chrono Trigger, and Square Enix is honoring this milestone with exciting announcements about the franchise’s future and a series of events in the coming days. The celebration kicks off with a 33-hour live performance, which will be broadcasted on YouTube starting on March 13 at 7 PM PT and continuing until March 15 at approximately 4 AM PT.

Square Enix shared this news via a post on X, stating, “Today marks the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger’s release in 1995… To celebrate, we will be launching various projects over the next year that extend beyond the realm of gaming as a sign of our appreciation for everyone who has enjoyed Chrono Trigger.”

Unsurprisingly, the mention of “various projects” has sparked excitement among fans, many of whom have longed for a remake. Enthusiasts dream of experiencing Chrono Trigger in a fresh incarnation, potentially resembling the stunning HD-2D visuals of Octopath Traveler.

    Square

The prospects for a remake—or even a re-release—are quite promising. Although Chrono Trigger is available on Steam and mobile devices, it has yet to be launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, or Nintendo Switch. Its sequel, Chrono Cross, saw a revival in 2022 with The Radical Dreamers Edition, featuring enhanced graphics, a fast-forward option, and various other improvements.

Moreover, there are numerous titles that evoke a similar essence to Chrono Trigger. For instance, Sabotage Studio’s Sea of Stars draws heavy inspiration from the classic, and excitingly, it has new downloadable content on the horizon.

Square Enix mentioned that their upcoming projects aim to “transcend the world of gaming,” which opens doors to a wide array of possibilities, from an anime adaptation to board games or trading card games.

While there’s no certainty regarding the release of a remake, the anniversary of a beloved game is a prime opportunity for such an announcement. Chrono Trigger has left a lasting impact on the RPG genre, and a revival could be well-deserved.

  • Tips for Keeping Pahn Safe in Suikoden 1 HD Remake

A unique aspect of the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remasters is that several so-called ‘unbeatable’ boss battles can actually be won. A prime example is the showdown between General Teo and Pahn. If you take this fight on hard difficulty, you might find it incredibly challenging. You may even feel like it’s impossible to win and that Pahn is destined to fail.

Fortunately, it’s not as hopeless as it seems. This guide will provide you with all the essential information about this pivotal battle. You’ll learn when to expect the duel, how to optimally equip Pahn, and what levels you should aim for before heading into the fight. We’ll also break down General Teo’s cues to help you better prepare for his attacks.

First off, head to Teien and enhance Pahn’s claws to level 12, which is the best sharpness available at this stage of the game. Equip him with the Ninja Garb, Headgear, and two Guard Rings. All these items can be bought at the armory in Antei.

Make sure Pahn is at least level 30, but closer to level 35 is even better. At this level, he’ll still take more damage from Teo’s attacks, but you can balance things out by effectively defending against his special moves. A great place to level up is at Soniere Prison. Keep in mind that experience points are shared among party members, so having fewer allies will help Pahn level up more quickly.

Point of No Return Before the Duel with Teo

After you defeat General Milich and win the second battle of Scarleticia, you’ll return to Toran Castle. Be cautious about who you talk to in your castle. It’s wise to save your game immediately and confirm that Pahn is ready to face General Teo.

If you talk to the woman in red (Kasumi) in the meeting room located on the top floor of your castle, you’ll trigger a cutscene and won’t be able to save before battling Teo. Even if you tell Mathiu that you “would prefer not to fight [your] father,” you won’t have the option to back out: you’ll be locked into the battle. If Pahn is injured, you won’t have the chance to heal him before the fight begins.

    General Teo Duel Responses

In every duel, the mechanics are straightforward: counter an Attack with a Special move, defend against a Special with an Attack, and counter a Defend with a Special. This creates a rock, paper, scissors style battle. Teo will announce his next move with specific phrases. Below is a list of what he might say and the corresponding action you should take. This chart is not comprehensive, but it should give you a solid foundation for winning the duel.

    Attack

    Defend

    Special

“My sword is still as sharp as ever!”

    “Now it’s my turn.”

“Saw through my attack, did you?”

    “Impressive, Pahn.”

“Is that all you’ve got? Now it’s my turn!”

“Forever on the defensive, Pahn? I shall not hold back!”

“Impressive, Pahn. Seeing through my attack like that. I must be more careful.”

“What’s the matter, Pahn? Going to come at me again?”

    “Come at me, Pahn.”

“It seems I lost my cool. I must be more careful…”

“This next one will not get past me!”

“Come at me, Pahn! Come at me with your most powerful attack!”

    “Very wise, Pahn.”

“Let us see if you can read my attack, Pahn.”

“I shall finish this with one strike!”

    “My most powerful technique…”

    “Impossible… Take this, then!”

“This one will hit its mark!”

  • Top Weapons for Every Class in the DQ3 Remake

Top Weapons for Every Class in the DQ3 Remake

Weapons in Dragon Quest 3 Remake range from being standard to featuring special effects that can greatly influence battle outcomes. As you progress in the game, you’ll come across various weapons and have the opportunity to change your characters’ gear.

Each class has its own role in DQ3 Remake, which calls for different weapon types. There isn’t a single best weapon for any class; instead, we’ll discuss which types work best for each vocation and offer specific recommendations where applicable.

    Best Weapons for a Warrior

Warriors have a straightforward approach to weapons, primarily focusing on single-target damage with swords or hammers. They do not have options for other weapon types.

However, Warriors have some notable weapons that complement their defensive role:

    Weapon Effect
Orochi’s Sword This sword can lower enemy defenses, helping your team tackle them more easily when you’re not needed to guard an ally.
Thunderbolt Blade A unique weapon that casts Boom on an enemy, allowing the Warrior to deal non-physical damage without consuming MP.

    Best Weapons for a Priest

For Priests, support-oriented weapons are essential. During battles, Priests often focus on support rather than damage, and using abilities that do not require MP can be very effective.

Here are two excellent weapon choices for the Priest:

    Weapon Effect
Staff of Sleep This staff can cast Snooze on multiple enemies, often putting at least one to sleep, which reduces their damage for your team.
Sage’s Staff This staff allows the Priest to cast Midheal, a strong mid-level healing spell, without using MP, helping sustain your resources.

Best Weapons for a Mage (and Sage)

Mages can choose weapons that either enhance their damage potential or offer support capabilities. They have many staff options at their disposal. Here are some top choices:

    Weapon Effect
Wizard’s Staff This staff enables you to cast a fire spell for free, ideal for dealing with fire-weak enemies.
Staff of Rain With this staff, you can cast Fizzle without MP, preventing enemies from casting spells, especially useful against spell-casting foes.
Sage’s Staff This weapon offers support abilities, easing the burden from your Priest if you’re using one.

Since the Sage combines the abilities of both the Mage and Priest, any listed weapon for either class will work well based on your preferred playstyle.

    Best Weapons for a Gadabout

Gadabouts don’t have a significant focus on weapons since they can be transformed into other classes, such as the Sage. However, during their leveling up to 20, consider these options:

    Weapon Type Effect
Boomerangs Gadabouts can’t always be depended on to follow commands. Thus, weapons that deal group damage provide useful bonuses when they might not finish off a single target.
Whips Similar to Boomerangs, Whips are effective for Gadabouts. While both have class-specific options, they lack unique effects.

    Best Weapons for a Thief

While Thieves aren’t the strongest combatants, they can still be effective choices with the right weapons: multi-target and single-target options.

    Weapon/Type Effects
Boomerangs A solid choice for any character, Boomerangs deliver impressive damage to all enemies, particularly effective against groups.
Assassin’s Dagger This dagger can potentially defeat an enemy instantly. Use this against strong or priority targets for maximum impact.

Best Weapons for a Monster Wrangler

The Monster Wrangler excels in dealing damage and providing some support. Their weapons should generally focus on multi-target damage but can also include some single-target options.

    Weapon Type Effect
Boomerangs These work well with abilities like Monster Pile-On and Boulder Toss, enabling the Monster Wrangler to deal consistent multi-target damage.
Blades/Claws Weapons like swords and claws can enhance single-target damage, supplementing the Wrangler’s capabilities.

Best Weapons for a Martial Artist

Martial Artists are unique in weaponry usage, as most weapons reduce their attack power compared to their bare hands. However, Claw-type weapons can be an exception.

    Weapon Type Effect
Claw While lacking unique effects, claws offer significant damage upgrades, making them ideal for single-target strikes, as Martial Artists can often land critical hits to drop foes quickly.

    Best Weapons for a Merchant

Merchants are not primarily warriors but can still contribute, especially with the right weapon selections.

    Weapon Type Effect
Boomerangs Again, Boomerangs shine as they allow Merchants to hit every enemy, maximizing their attack potential.
Assassin’s Dagger Although Merchants may not deal heavy damage, this weapon provides a chance to defeat an enemy instantly, making each hit potentially impactful.

    Best Weapons for The Hero

The Hero boasts the widest variety of weapons available in the game, alongside various spells and abilities to enhance their effectiveness.

    Weapon/Type Effect
Boomerangs As previously noted, Boomerangs are essential in both the early and late game. If your Hero is a support-damage role, they are invaluable for hitting multiple enemies.
Thunderbolt Blade This unique weapon is effective against many foes; its damage type is particularly useful as it exploits common weaknesses.
Zombiesbane/Dragonsbane Specialized weapons that deal significant damage to their respective targets, making them valuable for specific encounters, particularly against tougher enemies.

Each class offers distinctive approaches to weaponry, shaping their roles on the battlefield while presenting unique opportunities to leverage combat strategies.

  • Top Spells in Dragon Quest 3 Remake: A Ranked Guide

Top Spells in Dragon Quest 3 Remake: A Ranked Guide

Dragon Quest 3 Remake offers a variety of combat options tailored to each character based on their class and weapon choice. As you level up, you gain access to more abilities and an increased amount of MP to utilize them.

Certain character classes will unlock many different spells as they gain levels. These spells serve purposes such as support, offense, and defense. Some are enhanced versions of previous spells, while others, especially those you earn later in the game, introduce entirely new effects.

    Spell Evaluation Criteria

This guide features spells evaluated on their overall usefulness in various situations, considering also the MP cost required to cast them. While some of the game’s most powerful spells have impressive effects, their high MP cost may limit your ability to use them frequently without jeopardizing your future encounters.

    Offensive Spells

Offensive spells in Dragon Quest 3 Remake vary in effectiveness, largely depending on the enemy’s resistance to specific damage types. To maximize the impact of your spells, it’s crucial to understand your enemies’ weaknesses.

Although many battles are manageable, knowing how to exploit enemy weaknesses can be essential, especially when facing tougher foes.

    Top Offensive Spells

Here are some of the most effective offensive spells in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:

    Spell Class MP Cost Description
Boom/Kaboom Hero/Mage 9/15 Boom and its stronger version, Kaboom, are reliable attack spells. They deal decent damage across various enemy types, making them valuable in battles against multiple foes.
Woosh/Swoosh/Kawoosh Priest 4/6/10 Woosh and Swoosh inflict solid wind damage on a single group, while Kawoosh delivers heavy damage to multiple enemies. However, use Kawoosh sparingly due to its high MP cost.
Wack/Thwack Priest 7/10 Whack and Thwack offer unique utility, allowing you to instantly defeat weaker foes rather than relying solely on damage. The Thwack version can target an entire group.
Zapple Hero 8 The only true single-target spell on this list, Zapple excels against enemies that are weak to its damage type. Although it’s costly in MP, it promises significant damage against individual foes.

    Support Spells

In Dragon Quest 3 Remake, support spells enhance your party’s efficiency and survival. The Priest class offers the broadest array of these spells, proving essential in various team compositions.

    Top Support Spells

Below are some of the most effective support spells for your party:

    Spell Class MP Cost Description
Kazing Priest 20 Kazing is reliable for reviving a fallen ally at full health, unlike other spells that may fail upon repeated use.
Midheal/Fullheal Hero/Priest 5/9 Midheal provides a cost-effective heal that can restore around 100 health, while Fullheal offers a complete recovery at a higher MP cost, offering excellent value for high-health characters.
Snooze Hero/Priest 3 Snooze has a low MP cost and can incapacitate some enemies, allowing your party to regroup. Using Snooze Sticks can let you cast this spell without consuming MP.
Magic Barrier Priest 6 This spell reduces damage from enemy spells, turning potentially devastating attacks into manageable ones.
Fizzle Hero/Priest 5 Fizzle can prevent enemies from casting spells at all. While it’s not foolproof, when it works, it can significantly shift the battle in your favor.

    Convenience Spells

Some spells aren’t primarily designed for combat but can greatly simplify your gameplay experience.

    Top Convenience Spells

Here are spells that will make navigating the world of Dragon Quest 3 Remake much easier:

    Spell Class MP Cost Description
Zoom Hero/Mage 0 Zoom allows free fast travel between locations you’ve already visited, making exploration less tedious and saving you time spent in battle.
Holy Protection Hero 4 This spell prevents encounters with lower-level monsters, enabling easier travel through familiar areas without constant fighting. While avoiding weaker foes can be strategic, you’ll still want to engage stronger enemies for experience.

With these spells, understanding their strengths and appropriate usage will elevate your gameplay experience in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. Adjust your strategy based on your character’s abilities and the challenges you face to enhance your adventure.
