Getting Your Friend Started with Anime: Classic Films for Solving Their Interest

Anime is one of the most popular art forms worldwide, but it can feel quite exclusive. With hundreds and sometimes thousands of episodes, it’s hard to know where to begin. That’s why we’ve put together this helpful list to guide newcomers and experienced fans alike—whether you’re trying to introduce someone else to anime or looking for your next favorite show to start.

Our focus here is mainly on TV series, ranging from modern hits to ongoing series, to classic favorites that every fan should watch. We also include some movies at the end for those who prefer a shorter, more manageable introduction. Anime has a rich history that continues to grow, so if you’ve ever wanted to get involved, the best time to start is now.

    Delicious In Dungeon
Sometimes called Dungeon Meshi in Japan, this is the newest anime on our list, debuting in 2024. It follows a team of adventurers exploring deep into a dungeon, fighting monsters along the way. The show is straightforward and easy to follow, making it ideal for newcomers who aren’t familiar with typical anime tropes.

What makes it special is that the adventurers survive by cooking the monsters they defeat—similar to hunters eating their kills. This twist adds depth to the characters’ relationships. It begins light and funny but gradually becomes more complex and meaningful, much like a good meal that gets better over time.

    Vinland Saga
Many modern anime depict characters who are violent, often showing them easily dismembering enemies. These characters usually have tragic pasts that explain their brutality. Vinland Saga features a similar theme through Thorfinn, a young warrior driven mad by revenge. His relentless quest for vengeance leaves him without purpose, which prompts viewers to reflect on morality and forgiveness—powerful themes that give the series depth and relevance.

    Neon Genesis Evangelion
For those who grew up in the ’90s, Evangelion was probably their first exposure to anime. Even if you’re not an anime fan, you’ve likely heard of it, given its huge influence on pop culture. It tells the story of Shinji, a 14-year-old trapped in a post-apocalyptic world, who is recruited to fight mysterious beings called Angels. The series is famous for its philosophical themes, biblical symbolism, and intense storytelling, making it a compelling watch that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish.

    Monster
Inspired by the 1960s TV show The Fugitive, Monster is a gripping psychological thriller set in Japan, with strong German influence after World War II. It centers on Dr. Tenma, a doctor torn between his morals and the corrupt world around him. The plot explores multiple character stories, including the chilling character Johan Liebert, a pure psychopath. Monster offers a deep and thought-provoking experience, especially appealing to those who enjoy complex stories about morality and human nature.

    Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Often considered one of the best anime ever, this series is celebrated for its clever plot and thematic richness. It follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, talented alchemists who lose parts of their bodies after trying to resurrect their mother. Their quest to find the Philosopher’s Stone to regain their bodies takes them through themes of science, religion, and nationalism. The series combines action, drama, and philosophical questions in a way that appeals to a wide audience.

    Violet Evergarden
This 13-episode series is praised for its beautiful storytelling and character development. It follows Violet, a former soldier trying to recover from war trauma. She takes on a job writing letters for those who can’t express their feelings, which helps both her and her clients understand human emotions more deeply. Told from her perspective, the series blends emotional depth with each episode introducing a new character’s story.

    Death Note
A favorite thriller among fans, Death Note begins when Ryuk, a mysterious Death God, drops a notebook into the human world. The notebook has the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. High school student Light Yagami finds the book and begins to eliminate criminals, which leads to a tense game of cat and mouse with the genius detective L. Its psychological battles and moral dilemmas make it a timeless classic that’s perfect for first-time viewers.

    Attack on Titan
Set in a brutal world where humanity struggles to survive against giant creatures called Titans, Attack on Titan is renowned for its intense action and dark atmosphere. Based on the manga by Hajime Isayama, this series follows the last remnants of humanity fighting for survival. With fewer episodes per season and fewer filler scenes, it’s easy to follow and filled with twists that challenge what you think you know about the story.

    Cowboy Bebop
Premiering in 1998, Cowboy Bebop became a viral sensation in the early 2000s after its English-dubbed version hit Western audiences. Its setting is a space-faring, neo-noir universe where humans have colonized much of the solar system. The story follows a group of bounty hunters known as the Cowboys, blending humor with serious themes like depression, poverty, and loneliness. Its stylish storytelling and memorable characters continue to resonate today.

    Any Studio Ghibli Movie
Switching to films, Studio Ghibli offers a perfect starting point for new viewers. Since the late ’80s, the studio has created animated classics like My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, each filled with beautiful hand-drawn visuals and imaginative worlds. While not all Ghibli films are equally beloved, their movies are renowned for their detailed art, heartfelt stories, and dreamy atmospheres, making them a wonderful entry into animated storytelling.

  • Completing the Cheydinhal Recommendation in Oblivion Remastered

Completing the Cheydinhal Recommendation in Oblivion Remastered

Joining the Mages Guild in Oblivion Remastered is quite a process. You need to complete tasks at each Guild location across the land of Oblivion. This might take some time, but it’s worth it since joining the Guild is essential for enchanting your gear.

One of the crucial tasks for entering the Mages Guild is the Cheydinhal Recommendation Quest. This quest stands out within the storyline. Here’s a detailed guide to help you navigate it.

How to Start the Cheydinhal Recommendation Quest

To get started with the Mages Guild Quest, you’ll see markers guiding you to various Guild buildings throughout Cyrodiil. One of these points to Cheydinhal, located in the northeast part of the map, nestled between the Imperial City and Morrowind.

When you arrive in Cheydinhal, follow the marker to the Mages Guild, identifiable by a stained-glass eye emblem. If you enter via the West Gate, the Guild will be on your right, just past another building and near a statue.

    Talk to Falcar

Inside the Guild, your first task is to talk to Falcar, the head of the Guild in Cheydinhal. Be prepared—he’s not exactly friendly and will ask you to retrieve a ring from a well. To access the well, you’ll first need a key from Deetsan.

This is how the Cheydinhal Recommendation Quest gets formally added to your journal.

    Talk to Deetsan

You will also find Deetsan in the building. To get the key, you need to have a private conversation with her; do not let Falcar overhear, or she won’t give it to you. She’ll ask you to return when Falcar is not present.

Once Falcar has left, you can speak to Deetsan in secrecy. Not only will she hand over the key, but she will also teach you a spell called Buoyancy, allowing you to breathe underwater for 30 seconds.

    Go to the Well

The well is located right behind the Mages Guild. Use the key to unlock it and dive in.

As soon as you enter, cast the Buoyancy spell because you’ll be underwater immediately. You can recast it while submerged, so as long as you have enough Magicka, you can stay underwater indefinitely.

After casting Buoyancy, swim into the chamber ahead and turn right. You’ll find a body in the water named Vidkun. Search the body and retrieve the Ring of Burden. This ring has no monetary value but weighs 150, which is likely to encumber you immediately.

If you weren’t using the Buoyancy spell, you would drown before escaping the well, just like Vidkun. Recast the spell if necessary and swim back to the exit.

    Return to Deetsan

Moving slowly due to the weight, head back to the Mages Guild and find Deetsan to inform her about your findings. She will mention a disagreement with Falcar, who has since left. Deetsan will ask you to search Falcar’s room for anything suspicious, including a possible recommendation letter he might have left behind.

You can drop the Ring of Burden once you finish your conversation with Deetsan.

    Search Falcar’s Room

Falcar’s room is located in the basement. After entering the basement’s main room, his room will be directly across from you. Inside, there are several items to investigate. But look for the drawer next to his bed, as it contains what you need.

It will be locked with an easy lock, so you can open it by lock-picking or using a spell like the Minor Latch Crack spell, which works perfectly for this.

Inside the drawer, you’ll find a Black Soul Gem. Once you collect this and search the rest of the room, you’ll be prompted to return to Deetsan and let her know you didn’t find a recommendation but did find the Black Soul Gem.

Return to Deetsan One Last Time

After leaving Falcar’s room, bring the Black Soul Gem back to Deetsan. She will take the gem from you and write you a recommendation for the Mages Guild University.
