The British royal family faced repercussions from King Charles when he revoked Prince Andrew’s titles due to his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender. Trump expressed his sorrow and said he feels “extremely bad” for the family.

Buckingham Palace announced Thursday that Andrew, now officially known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, will also be required to vacate the Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate where he has resided for many years.

This decision was driven by concerns within the royal family about the damaging fallout from ongoing news stories linking Mountbatten-Windsor to Epstein, who was a convicted sex offender. One of Epstein’s victims, Virginia Giuffre, even accused the former prince of sexual assault.

During a Sunday evening press conference, Trump, who was previously friends with Epstein before his presidency, was asked about King Charles’s decision to strip Andrew of his titles.

“I truly feel bad,” Trump said. “The family has been through an awful ordeal. It’s really unfortunate. I feel for them.”

Trump has often spoken highly of Britain’s royal family. Notably, during his second visit to the UK in September, he lauded the “special relationship” between the US and Britain and had warm words to say about King Charles.

However, Epstein’s death in a New York jail in 2019 has recent months complicated Trump’s political landscape. It’s been widely reported that Trump was acquainted with Epstein, and several photographs depicting Trump and Epstein were shown on Windsor Castle just before Trump’s welcoming by King Charles in September. The display included a soundtrack that mocked their connection.

Further scrutiny has fallen on Mountbatten-Windsor’s ties to Epstein after new emails and a biography, published following Giuffre’s death at age 41 in April, revealed damaging details. In her book, she recounted being coerced into sexual acts with the former prince on three occasions, including when she was 17, during what she described as an orgasmic experience after Epstein allegedly endangered her. She claimed Mountbatten-Windsor thought that having sex with her was his “birthright.”

Despite these allegations, it’s important to clarify that, at 65, Mountbatten-Windsor has never been confirmed to have had sex with Giuffre while she was 17. He agreed to pay her £12 million (approximately $16 million) to settle the lawsuit, but he did not admit guilt.

Most recently, UK Defense Secretary John Healey announced that Mountbatten-Windsor would lose his last naval honor, granted in 2015, following Giuffre’s lawsuit. His mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, had already revoked his other military titles earlier this year.

On Friday, a Democratic Congressman called for Mountbatten-Windsor to testify before a U.S. House committee investigating the government’s dealings with Epstein.

The case attracted renewed attention in July after the Justice Department stated that the famed list of Epstein’s sex-trafficking clients was nonexistent and declared they would no longer release additional information related to the case.

  • Prince Andrew to Move to Sandringham After Losing Titles and Honors

Prince Andrew to Move to Sandringham After Losing Titles and Honors

Digital Phablet – Prince Andrew will not need to vacate Royal Lodge immediately and may relocate to Sandringham as late as the upcoming year.

King Charles dismissed his younger brother, Prince Andrew, from his Windsor residence and revoked all his titles and honors on Thursday. He will be moving to a residence on the King’s Norfolk estate, which will be funded by the king.

This decisive action came after months of scrutiny into Andrew’s personal life, as the royal family continued to grapple with the repercussions of his associations with the infamous child molester Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has maintained that he did nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, the government stated that there are no plans to officially remove Andrew from the line of succession.

Andrew remains eighth in line to the throne, which is still his primary role. However, there have been efforts to pass legislation that would prevent him from ascending to the throne.

To formally exclude him, Parliament would need to pass an act, a process that is complex and requires consensus among all Commonwealth nations, including Australia and Canada.

According to the royal palace, Andrew will be moving from Royal Lodge in Windsor to Sandringham “as soon as possible and practical.” Nonetheless, sources suggest that he should delay his move until the new year so he can avoid being at Sandringham during Christmas, when the royal family gathers.

He will relocate to a privately owned estate whose name has not been disclosed. The king will cover the costs of this move and is also making discreet financial arrangements for his brother.

Sandringham, before becoming King Edward VII’s residence, was purchased in 1862 by the Prince of Wales as a private countryside retreat. The estate spans about 31 square miles (80 square kilometers), comparable in size to Nottingham or Brighton and Hove.

Recent court documents in the U.S. reveal that in 2010, Andrew told Epstein that it would be “good to catch up in person” after Epstein’s release from prison for attempting to procure sex acts from a minor. An email dated April 15, 2010, shows Epstein advising that the prince meet with American banker Jes Staley. Andrew responded that his schedule prevented it at the time, but expressed a desire to meet “a few days before the summer.”

Later, in December 2010, Andrew and Epstein were seen together in New York’s Central Park. Andrew later stated that this encounter marked the end of their friendship.

Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi told BBC’s Newsnight that he wanted the former Duke of York to “come clean” about his dealings with Epstein and expressed a wish to see Andrew testify before Congress. Fellow Democrat Stephen Lynch concurred, stating that Andrew’s perspective “might contribute to justice for these survivors.” Lynch also noted that, as it stands, the House Oversight Committee cannot subpoena Andrew but encouraged him to consider voluntarily providing testimony.

It is believed that the royal family’s decision to strip Andrew of his titles stemmed from significant misjudgments on his part, a move that was supported by the rest of the royal family.

Public opinion also leans in favor of actions against Andrew. A YouGov survey released Thursday indicates that 79% of respondents support revoking his title, with 53% believing that he has already done all he can. Furthermore, 58% think this response should have come sooner, citing concerns that the royal family moved too slowly regarding his links to Epstein.

Downing Street expressed that Sir Keir Starmer “fully supports” the palace’s decision and echoed Buckingham Palace’s stance of standing with Epstein’s victims.

There has been longstanding trouble involving Andrew, which intensified when Virginia Giuffre accused him of sexual assault when she was a minor. Andrew vehemently denies the allegations.

Giuffre filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against him in 2022, despite his claims of no memory of meeting her. Her family stated that she “brought down a prince” due to her accusations. Her brother, Sky Roberts, argued that Andrew should be “investigated” further and criticized the royal family’s decision, claiming it was “not enough” because Andrew remains at large.

He was quoted saying, “He isn’t just going to disappear — he’s still comfortably positioned,” and suggested that Andrew should be questioned in the U.S. regarding Epstein’s crimes if called upon, according to UK trade minister Chris Bryant.

Recent court disclosures also reveal that in 2010, Andrew expressed interest in reconnecting with Epstein after his imprisonment, indicating a continued relationship despite public controversies.

Prince Andrew has stepped down from his role as Duke of York, marking a significant turn in his ongoing saga that began nearly six years ago with a televised interview revealing his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.

In a statement released on Friday evening, Andrew announced his decision to forgo his title and honors after discussing the matter with his older brother, King Charles III. He reaffirmed his denial of any wrongdoing, stating, “I strongly deny the claims made against me.”

The second son of Queen Elizabeth II, Andrew, who is 65, was stripped of his military titles in 2022 following intense public backlash over his interview and accusations of misconduct. Recently, he has also been involved in a spy-related incident concerning China.

The British royal family is once again under scrutiny due to a series of scandals. Reports suggest that Charles, who had previously urged Queen Elizabeth II to put Andrew into internal exile in 2019, was considering harsher measures. However, after consulting with his brothers, Andrew acted preemptively.

A tweet from Thomas Massie highlighted the ongoing revelations, stating, “First the British Ambassador lost his job, now the Prince lost his title. There’s more in the Epstein files. The truth is surfacing, and we won’t stop. Repost and tag @SpeakerJohnson if you want him to stop delaying the vote.”

Andrew explained that he believes persistent allegations are detracting from the duties of the monarchy and the royal family, and that his decision was made to prioritize his family and country: “As I have always done, I choose to focus on my family and nation first. I stand by my decision to remain out of public life since 2019.”

In his 2019 BBC interview, Andrew claimed to have severed ties with Epstein, who later hanged himself in a New York jail cell that year. However, subsequent evidence has shown that Andrew maintained contact with Epstein, including their 2010 appearance in New York.

Additional controversy surrounds Andrew’s involvement with Virginia Giuffre, a victim of Epstein’s trafficking ring, who accused him of assaulting her as a minor. Although Andrew paid an undisclosed settlement in a 2022 lawsuit and denied the charges, he lost his military appointments. Recently, a book by Giuffre, who tragically died by suicide in Australia this April, revealed details about Epstein’s efforts to connect her with Andrew.

There have also been reports suggesting espionage ties involving Andrew, particularly meetings with Cai Qi, a senior Chinese official close to President Xi Jinping. It is believed that Cai obtained sensitive information from two British individuals linked to Parliament, though the espionage charges against them were eventually dropped, causing political tensions for Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson stated that Andrew will retain his status as a prince despite stepping back from official duties. Historically, it is rare for a royal to relinquish a title, with Prince Harry doing so in 2020 when he moved to the United States, though he remains the Duke of Sussex.

Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will retain their titles, but his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will no longer be known as the Duchess of York. He also ceased using the style “His Royal Highness,” and lost more than a dozen military roles, including colonel positions in the Grenadier Guards.

Despite his fall from grace, Andrew was once included in royal family events. However, following Queen Elizabeth II’s death, he has become more isolated. Buckingham Palace has stated he will not participate in upcoming family traditions, such as the annual Christmas gathering at Sandringham—a major fixture on the royal calendar.

He will remain a resident at the Royal Lodge on Windsor estate, a sizable royal residence, under a private tenancy arrangement with the Crown Estate. This arrangement is expected to remain unchanged despite the loss of his official titles.
