Ian McKellen Mocks Trump in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Scene

Digital Phablet – Ian McKellen shared a humorous Trump-related joke while filming Magneto.

During an intense action scene in “Avengers: Doomsday,” where the 87-year-old actor reprises his role as the iconic “X-Men” villain Magneto, Ian McKellen revealed at a recent film festival in Rome (via The Guardian) that he directed a playful jab at Donald Trump. The film’s directors, the Russo Brothers, advised McKellen to appear more furious in a scene where Magneto unleashes chaos with his powers.

“[They told me to] make it appear as if you hate what you’re destroying,” McKellen explained. “So I stood there and I shouted, ‘Mar-a-Lago!’

Trump has owned Mar-a-Lago, a resort in Palm Beach, Florida, since 1985. During his time as president, he held meetings with world leaders at the property, which he visits frequently. The audience at the Cinema in Piazza festival, known for its free outdoor screenings and Q&A sessions, chuckled at McKellen’s playful jab at Trump.

Previously, Ian McKellen has openly criticized Trump. The actor from “X-Men” and “Lord of the Rings” condemned Trump for not defending LGBTQ+ rights during his first term in office in 2017. McKellen told Variety, “It’s appalling, completely unnecessary, and un-American,” referencing how the White House ignored Pride Month and reversed the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order, actions that many believed exposed LGBTQ+ employees to discrimination. America is the birthplace of the gay rights movement, which began at Stonewall in San Francisco, the city where Donald Trump was born and raised.

At that time, McKellen said, “I can’t follow Mr. Trump.” “I often find his comments confusing, and when I do understand, I sometimes realize I was mistaken because he later contradicts himself. I believe he’s a poor communicator. Donald, please be clearer. Only then will you be taken seriously.”

Completing the Ghost of Yotei’s Popcorn Bucket: Solving the Mockery

Ghost of Yotei will be released on October 2, but that hasn’t stopped Sony from jumping into the merchandising frenzy. This upcoming game is joining the unusual trend where films have their own special popcorn buckets. The catch? Ghost of Yotei isn’t a movie.

You could find the popcorn bucket for a short time at AlamoMart, an online shop for Alamo Drafthouse items, before it sold out. The official description says, “This beautifully crafted bucket, shaped like a traditional Japanese rice basket, is the perfect keepsake for any aspiring warrior.” I’d prefer a sword, but that’s just me.

A rice basket for holding popcorn is a strange idea, but it works with the theme. This item is part of Alamo Drafthouse’s ‘Way of the Samurai’ event, which will showcase five well-known Japanese films. Alamo’s website describes the event this way:

    Way of the Samurai Event

This August, we invite film lovers and modern-day samurai to step into the world of honor, revenge, and swordplay with Way of the Samurai, a film series inspired by the upcoming PlayStation game, Ghost of Yotei. From August 2 to September 4, selected Alamo theaters will feature five classic samurai films that helped shape the genre.

The line-up includes Lady Snowblood, Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance, The Tale of Zatoichi, 13 Assassins, and Ran.

Many Jokes Emerge About the Popcorn Bucket

Many gamers are joking about why a popcorn bucket like this exists. Some say it’s for all the popcorn you’ll eat while watching the game’s main character, Anzu, seek revenge against the Yotei Six, rather than actually playing the game.

On Reddit, a user named Eternalm8 commented, “There are just that many cutscenes.” They aren’t alone. Twitter user MagicMushMM shared a meme about someone starting a Sony game and eating popcorn just one minute later.

As Raven621 said, “The jokes write themselves.” Honestly, I can’t argue with that. I love Metal Gear Solid 4, so I appreciate a good cutscene. Still, if any game will give us time for snacks, it’s a Sony title.

The Ghost of Yotei popcorn bucket may become available again at AlamoMart in the future. You can also check Alamo Drafthouse locations after August 2 to see if they have any left. Or, you can save $40 and skip this unusual item.
