    Typically, when querying Copilot, users need to manually enter paragraphs of context, which can be time-consuming and challenging, especially when inquiring about unfamiliar topics.

    With Copilot Vision, rather than attempting to articulate what you’re viewing or discussing, the AI can directly observe your screen.

    For instance, according to Suleyman, if you search for “breathable sheets” on Amazon, you could ask Copilot whether any of the results consist of suitable materials. It can identify the correct ones or provide examples of breathable fabrics to look up.

    On the Food & Wine website, Copilot can assist you while cooking by responding to your questions and narrating portions of recipes, as this interaction is primarily voice-driven. You can speak to the AI, and it responds in kind.

    The Copilot Vision page indicates that you can also type your inquiries and receive written answers.

    Microsoft is taking a cautious approach with this feature, likely to avoid another backlash similar to what occurred with Recall. The limited selection of compatible websites stems from potential copyright concerns, and the company emphasizes that this feature is opt-in. It does not record your screen, is only active when you turn it on, and deletes data after each session concludes.

We’ve outlined the details of the Model Context Protocol below to help clarify its functionality and applications.

    What is the Model Context Protocol in AI?

    The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard crafted by Anthropic, the organization behind the Claude AI chatbot. MCP enables AI models to access external data, interpret it, and perform actions through a universal connection point. While AI models are incredibly capable, they typically operate in isolation and aren’t able to access your files or read communications in platforms like Slack.

    To allow AI models to connect with external data or systems, companies usually need to create specific connectors for each application. MCP simplifies this by offering a universal connector (a standardized protocol) that facilitates interaction with external data sources. For example, through MCP, an AI model such as Claude could be linked with services like Google Drive or GitHub.

    Thanks to the universal MCP protocol, AI models can interact with data sources in a secure and context-sensitive manner. It establishes a bidirectional link: one from the MCP server and another from the MCP client. For instance, the Claude Desktop app acts as an MCP client requesting data, while the MCP server serves as the connector delivering that data.

    MCP is tailored for developers, allowing them to create MCP servers and clients. So what does that mean for regular users like us? Well, consumers can install MCP servers for popular platforms including Google Maps, WhatsApp, Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, Bluesky, Windows, macOS, Linux, and more. This means you can retrieve information from these services using an AI chatbot such as ChatGPT.

    You can also link MCP servers to your computer’s local file system, enabling you to read and modify files seamlessly. Being an open-source project, anyone has the ability to develop an MCP server/client tailored to their specific workflow, making it possible to connect a powerful AI model to various external data sources.

    Essentially, MCP paves the way for large language models (LLMs) to leverage their intelligent capabilities to engage with external applications, tools, and services. While the Claude desktop app already supports MCP, numerous top-tier companies like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI have declared their intention to adopt the MCP protocol in the future.

    Is the Model Context Protocol (MCP) an AI Agent?

    Some may mistakenly conclude that MCP is an AI agent, but it is, in fact, a standard communication protocol that enables interactions between AI models and external data sources. An AI agent typically engages in planning, decision-making, and executing tasks delegated to it. In contrast, MCP allows for data accessibility between different systems.

    However, MCP has significant potential to enhance the reliability of AI agents. It can unlock the full capabilities of these agents. At the recent Google Next 2025 event, Google introduced the Agent2Agent Protocol (A2A), which enables AI agents to communicate amongst themselves. Google states in their blog post: “A2A is an open protocol that complements Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), providing valuable tools and context to agents.

    As we move into an era where AI agents are increasingly prevalent, MCP is poised to significantly enhance their functionality and adaptability.

    While numerous community-driven MCP servers exist, created by independent developers, Anthropic has developed several excellent MCP servers for users to experiment with. For instance, the Google Drive MCP server allows users to search for and access files from Google Drive using the Claude Desktop app.

    The Filesystem MCP server enables you to read, write, create, delete, move, and search for files on your local system. Meanwhile, the Slack MCP server allows for channel management, sending messages, responding to threads, retrieving messages, and much more. Additionally, the GitHub MCP server facilitates repository management, file operations, branch creation, etc.

    Beyond that, other popular community-generated MCP servers include Google Calendar MCP, which helps you view schedules, and add or remove events. It is based on a Transformer architecture.

    After training the Muse model through 1 million updates, it mastered fundamental movements, geometry, proper interactions, and even flying mechanics. Microsoft has now launched Copilot Gaming Experiences as part of the Copilot Labs initiative, showcasing experimental AI demonstrations and engagement ideas.

    In a fascinating twist, Microsoft has reimagined the classic game Quake II using the Muse AI model to develop gameplay dynamically in real-time. The system creates new gameplay sequences immediately following each user input. The best part? It’s available for anyone to try in their web browser for free by clicking this link.

    I had the chance to experience Microsoft’s AI-enhanced Quake II, and it served as an interesting proof of concept. Players can move around using the WASD keyboard controls and perform actions. However, a significant drawback is the lack of mouse support. Currently, the graphics aren’t high-quality, but it’s an early demo, and with enhancements moving forward, Generative AI could truly transform gaming, much like Nvidia’s multi-frame generation in DLSS 4.

    That said, there’s a short playtime limit of about two minutes, which restricts players from fully exploring the AI-generated environment. During my session, I noticed the absence of clear goals or objectives, and intriguingly, objects and enemies would often vanish unexpectedly. This inconsistency represents a challenge for the AI version of Quake II.

    Google’s AI Model for Gaming

    In another development, Google DeepMind exhibited a similar AI gaming technology in 2024. Their game engine, GameNGen, operates on an AI neural model (Diffusion-based) that enables real-time interaction in complex gaming environments. Google demonstrated that GameNGen could run the classic DOOM game at 20 frames per second on a single TPU.

    Moreover, with the launch of Genie 2, a large-scale foundation world model (Diffusion-based), Google can now create a wide range of gaming environments that respond to keyboard inputs. This model is capable of simulating essential physics features such as gravity, reflections, smoke, and lighting. As AI continues to make inroads into gaming, it will be exciting to see how it shapes the future of the industry.

    At a recent event, Microsoft showcased a significant update for its Copilot feature, introducing a total of nine exciting enhancements. Among these are tools like Actions, Memory, Vision, Pages, Shopping, and Copilot Search.

    As many of these features have already surfaced in competitor products like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, it’s worth noting that two popular tools gaining traction among users have finally been incorporated into the Copilot ecosystem.

    Deep Research

    Deep Research has become the talk of the town. Both Gemini and ChatGPT offer this feature, and it was quite surprising that the basic Copilot setup was missing such a powerful function, especially considering Microsoft’s close partnership with OpenAI.

    Fortunately, this gap has now been filled. Deep Research is a valuable addition to the Copilot suite, providing users with detailed, well-structured reports instead of generic chatbot replies. This is what a Deep Research report resembles:

    This feature taps into credible sources, gathers relevant information, and constructs a thorough research document complete with citations, saving users countless hours of manual research efforts. I've been impressed by its application on Gemini, so I'm thrilled to see this feature arrive on Copilot.

    According to Microsoft, “Copilot can find, analyze, and consolidate information from online databases as well as extensive documents and images.” Additionally, there's no need for a Microsoft account to initiate a Deep Research query, and a subscription to Copilot Pro isn't required.

    Microsoft is offering five free Deep Research inquiries each month, while those with a subscription will enjoy unlimited access and priority processing. In late March, the Microsoft 365 Copilot platform also introduced an AI Researcher tool capable of a similar function, analyzing both online resources and local files.

    Podcasts

    AI podcasts first gained attention with Google's NotebookLM, and just a few weeks ago, this feature was introduced in Gemini. I had the chance to experiment with it and found it to be an exceptional tool for transforming mundane information into an engaging auditory experience.

    While Google refers to these as audio overviews, Microsoft designates them simply as podcasts. Though the core concept is aligned, Microsoft offers a couple of additional benefits.

    Unlike Google Gemini's podcasts that do not allow user interaction, Copilot enables users to engage in ongoing discussions. “While listening, you can continue to communicate with Copilot to gain more insights and extend the conversation,” as noted by Microsoft.

    Another standout feature is the ability of Copilot to convert your offline resources and suggested websites into podcasts. Additionally, a new feature named Copilot Search functions similarly to Google's AI search but utilizes Microsoft's Bing engine.

    Microsoft Adds Copilot+ AI Tools for Intel and AMD PCs

    If you invested in a new AI-powered Copilot+ PC equipped with the latest Intel or AMD processor, and noticed the absence of certain features, your wait is finally over. Several of those Copilot+ enhancements are now becoming available for devices that utilize Intel and AMD processors.

    It’s been nearly a year since Microsoft unveiled the Copilot+ PC classification, designed to prioritize AI capabilities. Up until now, Qualcomm was the exclusive chip supplier for these devices.

    In late 2024, competing chip manufacturers entered the Copilot scene with the release of AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series and Intel’s Core Ultra 200V series processors. However, many features remained inaccessible to those using Intel and AMD machines.

    That situation is finally changing today. Microsoft announces that Copilot tools such as Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator will now be available on Copilot+ hardware powered by Intel and AMD.

    What is changing?

    Starting with Live Caption, this functionality provides captions for videos, audio, and real-time interactions like meetings conducted in English. It can also translate text from over 40 different languages into English, as well as 27 languages into Chinese.

    In the future, a new feature called Voice Access will enable users to manage their PC using natural language commands. This feature is already rolling out to Copilot+ devices with Qualcomm chips, with support for AMD and Intel hardware anticipated soon.

    For creative tasks, the AI-powered Cocreator feature is now available in Paint across all device types. Microsoft claims it helps make artistic creation and image enhancement more intuitive and accessible. Users can blend text-based editing with freehand drawing, providing added flexibility.

    Through the Photos app, users of Intel and AMD machines will also gain access to the Restyle Image and Image Creator tools. The Image Creator function allows for generating images based on text descriptions, similar to how you would interact with ChatGPT to create Ghibli-inspired art. The Restyle tool, meanwhile, applies artistic effects to images in a preset manner.

    All of these AI features will be available on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs with the March 2025 Windows update. It’s intriguing to consider why these capabilities were initially absent from Intel and AMD devices, even though they satisfied the minimum AI performance criteria.

    Unfortunately, this trend of missing features is not expected to end soon. Recently, Microsoft announced enhancements to the Windows Search experience, which will significantly simplify locating files, photos, and settings. Regrettably, this improvement will only be available for Snapdragon-based Copilot+ devices.
