How to Cook Meals and Restore Health by Completing & Solving in Everwind

Like many survival games, Everwind depends heavily on food to restore health after battles. Learning how to make the best meals in the game is crucial as you progress.

The Cooking Station will become one of your most-used tools, especially as you explore new areas and find a variety of ingredients across the vast pixel world. Just put some wood into the fire, and you’re ready to cook.

Since Everwind is procedurally generated, we can’t give exact locations for all recipes. However, there’s a full list of recipes in the Food & Drink category to help you gather the ingredients you need when it’s time to cook.

    Cooking Overview

If you’ve played other survival titles, you’ll notice that cooked meals restore HP lost during fights. It’s smart to prepare plenty of food early on. Your first settlement introduces you to cooking, so get familiar with it fast and keep a stock of food when you’re away from your base.

Exploring and fighting will inevitably cause damage, so even if you can eat raw ingredients to regain some health, cooked meals usually do a better job of restoring HP. You can also see healing effects over time from cooked dishes, so it’s best to eat a big meal when possible and heal gradually.

Several ingredient types go into recipes, including:

    • Herbs: Flowers and tubers found in grassy or watery areas.
    • Mushrooms: Abundant in the starting zone, ideal for basic early meals.
    • Produce: Berries and vegetables native to each biome, which can be farmed.
    • Creature Loot: Meat and eggs from defeated animals on the islands.

You’ll need a Cooking Station to make meals, which requires fuel to keep the fire burning. The station displays all unlocked recipes so you can make anything for which you have the ingredients.

Be sure to collect your cooked food once it’s ready—your station will steam when dishes are done. There’s no expiration, so you can cook in batches and store meals in chests for later trips.

Unlocking recipes isn’t automatic; you must find and unlock them by exploring the world. They can often be discovered in settlements or by looting treasure chests and cabinets.

Some recipes are designed to replenish stamina instead of health. Drinks like stamina tonics are common, while meals and stews mostly restore HP. Combining these with the right skill upgrades will maximize your effectiveness during adventures.

It’s wise to carry both stamina and healing foods, especially as you face tougher enemies in higher altitudes.

    Recipe List

The following table shows all recipes available at the Cooking Station, along with required ingredients. The list is divided into two sections: one for health-restoring meals and another for stamina drinks and tonics. Remember, you need to learn each recipe before you can cook it; having ingredients isn’t enough.

    Health Restoration Recipes:

    • Fried Egg: Restores 20 HP over 5 seconds.
    • Roasted Meat: Restores 15 HP over 5 seconds.

    • Bellflower Bite Infusion: Regenerates 150 stamina over 30 seconds (bell flowers, water).
    • Marshbloom Cooler: Regenerates 90 stamina over 30 seconds (marshblooms, water).
    • Golden Peel Nectar: Regenerates 80 stamina over 20 seconds (tangerines, honey, water).

Always ensure you’ve learned these recipes beforehand. Just having ingredients isn’t enough, as Everwind doesn’t have a free-form cooking mechanic yet. Consider exploring settlements or looting enemy camps for new recipes and ingredients—you might find tasty morsels or useful ingredients in treasure chests or cabinets if you’re lucky.

Not only does it allow you to enjoy the culinary arts, but it also helps you level up through a unique cooking skill that improves with every dish you prepare. Beyond the extra experience, cooking enables you to create various meals that offer healing benefits and other effects.

If you’re eager to learn the best recipes in the game while experimenting with your culinary skills, there’s a straightforward way to get started. We’ll guide you to some essential recipes, even if you haven’t unlocked them yet.

Where to Find the Best Cooking Recipes

If you’re familiar with the Bonfire, you’ve likely tried cooking before. Cooking is distinct from Alchemy; cooking focuses on turning food ingredients into meals, whereas alchemy is about transforming materials into useful potions. To make the best meals, you’ll first need a good stock of food ingredients.

Tip: Ingredients can often be found in crates and barrels throughout the world. A great spot to gather some free resources is around the Horns of the South stronghold. It’s an ideal place to test out some cooking recipes.

There are two primary methods to prepare meals: by combining ingredients manually or using pre-set recipes. You can find recipe books scattered throughout the game, which will unlock these pre-set combinations for you.

To get a jumpstart on your cooking journey, make your way to Ruairc, who can be found in the kitchen area of the Horns of the South stronghold. He has the following recipe books available:

    • Cooking For The Resistant, Part One
    • Culinary Madness With Rumpolt, Part One
    • Culinary Madness With Rumpolt, Part Two

Fortunately, you can create impressive dishes based on what you know, so you won’t always need to find specific recipes.

What Are the Best Cooking Recipes?

Each recipe typically requires a maximum of three ingredients, although some can be made with just two. If you’re looking for meals that restore your HP effectively, here are some of the best healing recipes in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon:

  • AI Meal Planning Now Available on This Smart Display Alternative

AI Meal Planning Now Available on This Smart Display Alternative

The Skylight Cal Max installed on a wall.
    Skylight

Skylight is a smart home company known for its diverse range of smart displays, including the Skylight Cal Max. These devices act as a central hub for managing your daily activities. While primarily designed as digital calendars, they also allow users to track chores, create lists, and plan meals. The excitement surrounding meal preparation just heightened with the introduction of Sidekick, an AI-driven assistant designed to generate meal plans in moments.

Sidekick represents a fresh AI capability for Skylight devices, enabling it to create tailored recipes according to your budget, the number of family members, and any dietary needs. Additionally, it generates shopping lists and provides step-by-step cooking directions. Skylight aims for this feature to help families save around 10 hours monthly by eliminating the hassle of meal planning.

    Skylight

Using the feature is straightforward: once you open the Skylight app on your smartphone, you’ll find a Sidekick button. In this menu, you can select the Plan Meals option, allowing you to choose specific days for meal planning, indicate how many people you’re cooking for, and decide whether to use existing recipes or let Sidekick suggest new ones. It can also add all the necessary ingredients to your Grocery List.

One of the highlights is the Notes feature, where you can specify any constraints for the AI, such as budget limits or preparation time. For instance, when I asked Sidekick to create vegetarian meals that could be prepared in under 30 minutes, it suggested a Vegetable Stir-Fry with Tofu and a Caprese Pasta Salad, complete with a list of ingredients and cooking guidelines.

Sidekick does more than just meal planning; it can also import calendar events from PDFs or photos, extract recipes from various sources, and create lists based on images or screenshots. Currently in its beta phase, this feature is exclusive to Skylight Plus subscribers. As it continues to develop, Sidekick has the potential to significantly enhance the Skylight experience.
