Xbox Game Pass Adds Two Major Games This January

Both Sniper Elite: Resistance and Citizen Sleeper 2 will be available on Game Pass before the close of January, alongside a host of other exciting titles. While games rotate on the service, January has unveiled an especially impressive collection of notable releases and updates all at once. This month features several day-one launches, plus various updates and expansions that are likely to refresh your favorite games.

Sniper Elite: Resistance — January 30

A Nazi appears in a sniper scope in Sniper Elite: Resistance.
    Rebellion

In terms of gameplay, few franchises can compete with Sniper Elite. Blending stealth and strategic combat, Sniper Elite: Resistance stands out not just as a sniping simulation. You'll need to carefully consider your targets and methodically plan your shot while avoiding detection.

    Citizen Sleeper 2 — January 31

The first installment, Citizen Sleeper, was a remarkable RPG, and Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector builds on that with an amnesiac android struggling with a malfunctioning body. Your mission is to find a ship, gather a crew, and keep soaring through the cosmos. Think of it as a cyborg version of Firefly—which is incredibly thrilling!

Lonely Mountain: Snow Riders — January 21

Lonely Mountain: Snow Riders is the sequel to Lonely Mountains: Downhill, bringing a Trials-like experience where you conquer mountain trails on skis in a race against other players, either online or setting impressive personal bests. This title is available now on Game Pass.

    Flock — January 22

A bird attracts a thrip in Flock.
    Annapurna Interactive

Flock explores a whimsical idea—what if sheep could fly? Though they’re not technically sheep, this co-op multiplayer game revolves around herding charming airborne creatures. It's a lighthearted, stress-free way to enjoy time with friends without fierce competition.

Gigantic: Rampage Edition — January 22

This is not the Rampage game you might be imagining. Gigantic: Rampage Edition is a 5v5 multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) shooter where you aim to defeat the opposing team's Guardian while protecting your own.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess — January 22

In Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, you play as Soh, a guardian tasked with defending Shrine Maiden Yoshiro from waves of foes. The gameplay integrates tower-defense elements with intense enemy hordes that you must slice through to achieve your goals, along with opportunities for permanent upgrades outside of battles.

    Magical Delicacy — January 22

Magical Delicacy is a charming exploration and cooking adventure that invites you to venture through your village and its surrounding areas for ingredients. Villagers will request various dishes, and it's your job to gather supplies. Be cautious: while the game has a cozy vibe, it also presents several challenges.

    Tchia — January 22

The player sails to a far-off island in Tchia.
    Kepler Interactive

An open-world exploration game, Tchia tasks you with rescuing your father from a tyrant. Its stunning art style and physics-driven gameplay enhance the joy of exploration, deeply inspired by the culture of New Caledonia.

The Case of the Golden Idol — January 22

Featuring a distinctive and unsettling art style, The Case of the Golden Idol is a murder mystery that challenges players to uncover clues and piece together the events leading to the victims' demise.

    Starbound — January 22

If you're a fan of Terraria, you will likely enjoy Starbound. While it leans more toward exploration rather than combat, its gameplay bears a close resemblance, serving as a spiritual successor of sorts.

    Eternal Strands — January 28

The fantasy title Eternal Strands from Yellow Brick Games features developers with backgrounds in acclaimed series like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. This is a day-one release that involves battling vast creatures to prevent the collapse of the world.

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap — January 28

    Robot Entertainment

Another day-one offering, Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap maintains the franchise's legacy, blending tower defense with third-person shooter elements. You'll face waves of enemies intent on overrunning your position, utilizing an extensive arsenal of weapons at your disposal.

Explore All Rewards in Brush Bliss: Monopoly Go (Jan 18-20)

Monopoly Go is launching its next major event. The Brush Bliss event is underway and will take place from January 18th to January 20th. This is your final opportunity to collect those pickaxes before the Greek Treasures event concludes.

This event features an extensive set of 62 milestones, similar to the recently completed Rich Exhibit event. While that’s a lot, it also presents a significant chance to earn pickaxes, acquire dice, and gain boosters.

How to Earn Rewards in Brush Bliss

To claim your Brush Bliss rewards, you’ll want to land on various tiles, such as Chance, Utility, and Tax tiles. The following spaces will award you points:

    • The Chance tiles give you two points, allowing you to work towards your milestones.
    • The Electric Factory and Water Works tiles yield three points each, usually providing a small cash gain.
    • Landing on the Luxury Tax and Income Tax tiles will earn you two points each, which is welcome since they typically have negative connotations.

As mentioned, there are a total of 62 milestones. It seems like these 12 extra milestones might become standard in future events, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Don’t miss your last shot at winning big in the Greek Treasures event! Prioritize getting those pickaxe tokens. Fortunately, you can rack up a little over 200 free pickaxes. You’ll also score cash, sticker packs, and over 15,000 free dice rolls.

Since this is your final moment to gather pickaxes, boost your dice roll multiplier. Hopefully, you’ve set aside some dice to make the most of this and complete the Greek Treasures event.

Discover All Rewards in Glacier Glide: Monopoly Go (Jan 6-7)

If you’re experiencing chilly weather, Monopoly Go has come to your rescue with a dose of frosty fun that won’t leave you cold! From 1 PM EST on January 6 to 3 PM EST on January 7, landing on any Railroad spaces will earn you points in the Glacier Glide tournament.

The Glacier Glide event wraps up at the same time as the Peg-E Sticker Drop, making this a perfect opportunity to collect some last-minute Peg-E Sticker Drop chips—specifically, 477 of them! With Jingle Joy coming to an end soon, gathering as many stickers as possible is essential.

How to Collect Rewards in Glacier Glide

To join in the Glacier Glide leaderboard tournament in Monopoly Go, you’ll need to land on one of the four Railroad spaces as you roll. There’s a Railroad on each side of the board, and your points for Glacier Glide will depend on the minigame you engage in when you land there, as well as your performance in that minigame. Heists are rarer than Shutdowns, but they provide greater rewards in both cash and Glacier Glide points.

    Points Earned in Glacier Glide

If you’re eager to rack up those Peg-E Sticker Drop chips, consider boosting your dice roll multiplier when you’re near a Railroad space. Just make sure you have enough rolls left so you’re not stuck without any! Peg-E won’t be around for long, so snagging as many sticker packs as possible before she departs is key.

As the Peg-E Sticker Drop event continues this week in Monopoly Go, collecting Peg-E chips is vital for earning those sticker packs! The Jingle Joy album wraps up on January 16, so the more sticker packs you gather now, the better—especially if you can chase after the Wild Sticker for the top prize! Glacier Glide is set to offer you over 475 free Peg-E Sticker Drop chips, with the final payout waiting at milestone 30 out of 40 in the tournament.

To keep your gameplay going strong, hitting the final milestone in Glacier Glide will earn you more than 10,000 free dice rolls today in Monopoly Go. Plus, expect several flash events, cash prizes, and additional sticker packs throughout the tournament!

  • January Highlights in FinTech: A Year Unfolding

January Highlights in FinTech: A Year Unfolding

After a thrilling period of rapid expansion, 2023 has been widely acknowledged as the year of adjustment for the fintech sector, as the industry matures and numerous players continue their digital transformation initiatives.

According to McKinsey & Company, fintech is currently entering a new chapter of value creation, where companies are competing to achieve sustainable and profitable growth.

So, what strategies can businesses employ to maintain and enhance their impact on customers, the broader financial ecosystem, and the global economy?

Drawing from its analysis, McKinsey has identified several key themes that will shape the future of this sector.

Cost Management is Crucial for Fintechs

McKinsey’s research indicates that during the previously mentioned period of rapid growth, fintech companies prioritized swift expansion over cost management, when they had greater access to capital and more frequent funding opportunities.

Now, finding the right balance between cutting costs, maintaining customer satisfaction, and continuing growth has become a top priority. Leaders are exploring various strategies to reduce expenses and drive profitability.

The research shows that 50% of publicly traded fintechs were profitable in 2022, with effective cost management being the key factor distinguishing successful firms from those struggling to achieve profitability, as opposed to just focusing on revenue growth.

“Achieving success through cost management is vital for fintechs as they enter this next phase of development,” state the authors. “While fintechs sharpen their focus on expenses, they should also rethink their operational strategies to create more agile and adaptable organizations capable of navigating the current landscape.”

In fact, four out of five fintech firms surveyed by McKinsey reported making adjustments to their operating models, with two-thirds highlighting a focus on profitability and sustainable cost structures as a critical element in their plans for the future.

  • Nvidia Could Lead GPU Market in January

Nvidia Could Lead GPU Market in January

    CES 2025
Check out our full coverage of CES here.
Updated less than 22 minutes ago

Nvidia, AMD, and Intel are preparing to refresh their rankings of top graphics cards in January. Recent reports from HKEPC, a media outlet based in Hong Kong, suggest the Nvidia RTX 5080 is scheduled for launch on January 21. In contrast, AMD appears to be taking a bit longer to increase their GPU stock, potentially allowing Nvidia to seize the GPU market in the early part of 2025.

As we approach CES 2025, it’s clear that January will be an exciting month for PC enthusiasts. Nvidia is set to unveil the RTX 50-series, AMD will introduce the RX 9000 series, and Intel plans to add another GPU to its Battlemage range. While only Intel’s GPU has a confirmed release date of January 16, Nvidia is rumored to follow closely behind with their launch just a week later.

It’s important to note that while HKEPC initially reported the January 21 release for the RTX 5080 on social media, they later deleted that post. However, VideoCardz captured the information, which allows us to speculate on this timeline. Many insiders indicate that the RTX 5080 will indeed be the first to hit the market, making the anticipated CES announcement a solid benchmark for this release.

If the RTX 5080 indeed launches on January 21, the RTX 5090 might follow on January 28. However, many analysts predict that the 5090 could have a later release, potentially pushing back into mid-February. Additionally, the RTX 5070 and its Ti variant may not debut until late February. Current rumors suggest we could see multiple Nvidia GPUs released within two months of announcement.

    AMD's RX 9000 series overview
    VideoCardz / Board Channels

As for AMD, their rollout may not be as swift. According to VideoCardz, citing insights from AMD’s internal sources, the RX 9000 series will initially experience limited availability, similar to what was seen with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. While the RX 9070 XT is expected to launch in late January, widespread availability will likely not occur until February.

As for AMD’s broader lineup, leaks have primarily focused on the RX 9070 XT and one GPU utilizing the Navi 44 die, likely designated as RX 9060 (XT). There’s talk of a potential RX 9070 non-XT model set to launch in March.

If these predictions are accurate, Nvidia might dominate the GPU sector in early 2025 with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 facing little competition, and AMD’s limited supply could mean all eyes will be on Nvidia. The upcoming days will provide more clarity during CES 2025, so stay tuned for updates.
