How Other Players Completing and Solving Impact Your Gameplay in Tides of Tomorrow

If you’re a long-time gamer, you’ve probably played many choice-based games like Tides Of Tomorrow. In some of these games, your decisions don’t affect the story much, while in others, they can change the ending completely. However, this game stands out because of one key feature.

This difference comes from its online story-linking system. With this feature, you select a previous player to follow to a specific island. Not only do your choices influence what happens to you, but the choices made by the player you’re following also affect your game’s outcome. It’s important to understand how this works.

    How Online Story-Linking Works

When you start a new game in Tides Of Tomorrow, after choosing your character, you also select a player to follow. Once you’ve picked them, you’ll see their avatar swimming ahead of you. From the very beginning, their decisions will shape what you experience.

For instance, if the player you’re following took a bottle of Ozen from Nahe, you won’t have the chance to take it yourself. Conversely, if they didn’t take it, the next player following you might have the chance. Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter similar situations where the previous player’s choices influence your options.

You can change the player you’re following after every story segment—whenever you leave an island.

Aside from influencing choices, the Tidewalker (the previous player) also helps you navigate puzzles. When you’re on an island, you can activate your special sight to see visions of the Tidewalker’s past actions. There are two types of visions:

    • Yellow visions: These show the main story, like the Tidewalker’s interactions with characters or solutions to puzzles.
    • Purple visions: These reveal the Tidewalker’s path, helping you avoid getting lost. They also show their emotes, or gestures, at various points.

In addition, you might come across “glitched” visions, which display the outcomes of certain choices. These help you decide what to do by providing insight into different options.

How to Choose Your Story-Link Partner

After each story segment, you get to choose a new player to follow. This decision is very important because it can influence your entire run or even end it prematurely if you select unwisely. When you pick your next destination, you’ll see the person you’ll be following at the bottom of the screen.

You can change your follower by pressing a button. On the selection screen, you’ll also see what items are in the yellow chest at that destination if you follow that person. It’s usually best to choose someone who left both Ozen and scrap, especially prioritizing Ozen, since it’s more crucial.

In the late parts of the story, finding a run with Ozen available in the chest can be quite challenging.

If you have multiple options with Ozen and scrap, you might want to choose a Tidewalker partner whose traits match your goal. For example, if you’re aiming for a run that favors humanity, choosing someone with similar traits could make your journey easier.

42% of Republicans Say Musk Has Too Much Influence

The Rise of Elon Musk’s Influence in U.S. Politics

Elon Musk’s foray into the political arena has been nothing short of dramatic, especially with his vocal support for Donald Trump’s ambitions to reclaim the presidency. This blog post delves into the implications of Musk’s influence on the current Trump administration, particularly in a potential second term.

    Musk’s Entry into Political Support

When Musk began openly endorsing Trump, the American public was left to speculate about how his immense financial resources and social media influence would impact governance. Initially, questions revolved around Musk’s actual sway—would he act as a puppet master behind the scenes, or his influence be more public and pronounced?

The Silicon Valley Ethos in Washington

Musk’s approach, rooted in the Silicon Valley principle of "move fast and break things," has manifested in what some are calling the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This self-styled initiative has already set its sights on various facets of government operations, with Musk advocating for a radical reduction in what he deems excessive workforce and spending.

    The Impact on Government Agencies

As Musk rallies for a leaner government, the consequences for various federal agencies are tangible. His methods have raised eyebrows, creating concerns regarding government efficacy and worker morale.

    Job and Budget Cuts

Musk’s "slash-and-burn" mentality entails cutting jobs and slashing budgets across multiple departments. Critics argue that this has led to long-term damage, as employees become anxious and demoralized. The cascading effects of such a strategy may weaken critical government functions, affecting everything from public health and safety to environmental protection.

    Erosion of Trust in Institutions

In addition to tangible operational changes, Musk’s approach risks damaging trust in American institutions. Many citizens worry that such drastic changes come with little adherence to laws, union agreements, or civil service protections, potentially setting a dangerous precedent for governance.

    Public Perception of Musk’s Influence

Recent polling data from YouGov and The Economist highlights a growing concern among Americans regarding Musk’s level of influence within Trump’s administration.

    Republican Views

Interestingly, even among Republicans, there’s a noticeable split in opinion about Musk’s role. The data indicates that 42% of Republicans believe Musk holds substantial influence in the current administration. However, only 32% express a desire for him to wield such power. This marks a decline from 47% post-election, revealing a potential shift in sentiment as Musk’s methods come under scrutiny.

    Democratic Sentiments

The divide is even more stark within the Democratic voter base. 81% of Democrats perceive Musk as influential, while a mere 5% would welcome him having significant power. This indicates a substantial and growing concern likely fueled by Musk’s policies and actions that many Democrats view as detrimental.

The Future of Governance Under Musk’s Shadow

As Musk continues to exert his influence, it raises critical questions about the future of governance in America. The balance between innovation and functionality, efficiency, and ethical governance will be at the heart of this unfolding narrative. The opinion polls reflect a populace that is increasingly wary of the ramifications of Musk’s unilateral decisions.

In this evolving political landscape, it will be essential to monitor both public sentiment and the administrative impacts of Musk’s initiatives as they develop. The interplay between a tech mogul’s influence and democratic governance poses a rich tapestry of challenges and questions yet to be fully explored.

Understanding the Intersection of Lobbying and Corruption

The political landscape in the United States is heavily influenced by the financial backing that candidates and legislators receive. The relationship between lobbying, political donations, and corruption is intricate and often controversial. Critics assert that lobbying resembles "bribery in a suit," drawing a fine line between legal influence and unlawful transactions. While lobbying is considered a legitimate practice aimed at swaying lawmakers’ opinions, bribery explicitly involves the purchase of political favors, an act that is clearly illegal.

    Legal Framework: Lobbying vs. Bribery

Lobbying, in its legal form, is designed to inform and persuade politicians regarding specific policies or legislation. The practice encompasses a range of activities, from direct conversations with lawmakers to broader campaign contributions. Advocates of lobbying argue that it plays a crucial role in democracy, allowing various interest groups to make their voices heard. However, what distinguishes lobbying from bribery is the absence of direct quid-pro-quo agreements, which are fundamentally illegal. Critics counter this argument by suggesting that the substantial financial contributions made by lobbyists create an implicit expectation for legislative favor—echoing the sentiment that "We supported you; now it’s your turn to support us."

Public Sentiment on Money in Politics

A recent survey conducted by Pew Research in 2023 offers eye-opening insights into how Americans perceive the influence of money in politics. The findings reveal a notable bipartisan consensus on the issue:

    • Influence of Large Donors: Approximately 80% of U.S. adults believe that large campaign donors wield too much influence over Congressional decisions.
    • Lobbyists and Special Interest Groups: About 73% of respondents share the sentiment that lobbyists and special interest groups disproportionately impact lawmakers’ decisions.
    • Public Disenfranchisement: A significant 70% of participants feel that the general populace has too little influence in what their congressional representatives ultimately decide.

These statistics paint a concerning picture of American democracy, where financial power overshadows the voices of average citizens.

The Call for Campaign Finance Reform

The overwhelming majority of survey respondents (72%) agree on a crucial aspect: there should be limits on the amount of money that individuals or organizations can contribute to political campaigns. This consensus crosses political affiliations, indicating a widespread desire to rectify the existing imbalance in political influence. As people observe the increasing expenses tied to election cycles, calls for reform have become more urgent.

    High-Profile Cases of Financial Influence

Recent events have highlighted the extent to which financial contributors shape political landscapes. For instance, federal filings revealed that tech billionaire Elon Musk invested over $250 million in the ongoing presidential election, with a strategic focus on aiding Donald Trump in his bid for a return to office. This particular investment serves as a clear demonstration of how considerable financial resources can directly influence electoral outcomes and political appointments.

The Rise of Government Efficiency Departments

In a notable development, Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy are at the helm of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency. This initiative exemplifies how financial power and political ambition can converge in a way that raises questions about accountability and governance. Critics argue that such alliances symbolize the troubling intertwining of wealth and political influence, further exacerbating concerns about who truly holds power in Washington.

The Growing Influence of BRICS on the Global Stage

The BRICS summit, convening in Kazan, Russia, marks a significant moment in the evolution of international relations. With the recent inclusion of countries like Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, the bloc—consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has expanded its ranks to form a more formidable coalition. This development reflects the increasing significance of BRICS as a counterbalance to Western-centric groups like the G7.

BRICS: A New Global Power Structure

The enlargement of the BRICS group provides a fresh dynamic in global politics and economics. By incorporating diverse nations, the bloc aims to enhance its bargaining power, diversify its perspectives, and foster greater economic cooperation among emerging markets. The anticipated inclusion of Saudi Arabia adds another layer of significance, potentially reshaping energy politics and global economic interactions.

    Public Perceptions of Global Influence

A recent Ipsos survey comprising insights from approximately 23,800 adults across 31 nations reveals a prevailing skepticism regarding the intentions behind nations’ foreign influences. The data suggests a growing disillusionment with powers like Russia and Iran, with many respondents associating their international actions primarily with negative outcomes.

Russia and Iran: A Lamentable Reputation

The survey indicates a stark decline in perceptions of Russia and Iran, with only one in ten respondents believing that these nations use their influence for positive purposes. This growing skepticism has become increasingly pronounced since 2019, highlighting a significant trend in public opinion—a movement away from viewing these countries as constructive players on the global stage.

China: A Mixed Bag of Opinions

China’s global outreach also encounters scrutiny, but opinions are more divided. Approximately 30% of survey participants characterize China’s influence abroad as primarily negative, while another segment believes that its foreign policies are a blend of both beneficial and detrimental effects. Notably, perceptions of China have diminished, showing a decline of 10 percentage points since the last survey iteration.

India: A Bright Spot Among BRICS

In contrast to its BRICS counterparts, India fares relatively better in global perception. The survey reports that only 12% of respondents view India’s influence as mostly harmful. Interestingly, a considerable number of people—about 30%—believe India does not exert significant influence at all, suggesting a more neutral stance towards the nation.

The United States: A Polarizing Presence

The findings also shed light on the views of the United States, a pivotal player within the G7. The U.S. holds the dubious honor of having the highest percentage of respondents categorize its influence as both beneficial and harmful, standing at 36%. In South Korea, this figure escalates to 50%, indicating a notable divide in perceptions among various demographics.

    Comparative Views: U.S. and Israel

While skepticism abounds, there is also a considerable proportion of individuals who perceive the U.S. and Israel positively. Approximately 34% of participants associate the U.S. with positive influence, while 31% extend similar views towards Israel. This duality reflects the complexities of global attitudes towards these influential nations.

    Underrepresentation in Global Surveys

Although the Ipsos survey provides a comprehensive look into global perceptions, it is crucial to note that certain regions remain underrepresented. For instance, South Africa is the sole African nation included in the survey, which risks skewing the overall understanding of global sentiment and may overlook vital perspectives from other emerging economies across the continent.

    The BRICS Summit: Opportunities Ahead

Gatherings like the BRICS summit enable dialogue on pressing global issues, fostering cooperation that transcends traditional geopolitical boundaries. The bloc’s growing influence signals a shift in power dynamics, highlighting the need for collaborative approaches as nations navigate complex challenges in an increasingly interconnected world.

The evolving narrative of global leadership, as illustrated by the expansive influence of BRICS, serves as a reminder of the changing tides in international relations and the diverse perspectives that shape our collective future.
