According to a death certificate obtained by the Sun and the New York Times on Tuesday, Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary lead singer of Black Sabbath and a defining icon in British heavy metal, passed away due to cardiac arrest. He also suffered from coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease.
The certificate, filed by his daughter Aimée Osbourne at a registry office in London, states that the official causes of death are: (a) an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, (b) an acute myocardial infarction, and (c) coronary artery disease combined with Parkinson’s disease and autonomic dysfunction.
He was 76 years old at the time of his passing on July 22. The Osbourne family released a statement expressing their sorrow: “It is with more sadness than words can convey that we must share the news of our beloved Ozzy Osbourne’s passing this morning.” He was surrounded by loved ones, and they requested privacy during this difficult time. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Birmingham, England, on July 30.
As his hearse made its way through the city center en route to his private funeral, thousands of fans gathered along the streets to honor his memory and pay their respects. His wife Sharon, along with their three children—Aimée, Kelly, and Jack—joined mourners for the heartfelt service.
Osbourne’s final public appearance was just a few weeks before his death, at a farewell concert on July 5, where he reunited with his Black Sabbath bandmates for the first time in nearly two decades.
In recent years, Osbourne encountered significant health issues. A fall in 2019 worsened an existing spinal injury, necessitating multiple surgeries. He publicly announced in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with a form of Parkinson’s disease in 2019. Speaking on Good Morning America about his diagnosis, he shared, “It’s been incredibly challenging for all of us.” He also mentioned, “My last show was on New Year’s Eve at The Forum,” reminiscing about his final performance before suffering a fall that caused nerve damage and required neck surgery.
Osbourne’s life was marked by his resilient spirit and groundbreaking musical career, leaving an enduring legacy in the rock and metal world.
